“EXPRESSION OF INTEREST” FOR HOSTING MARIE S. CURIE FELLOWS IN SPANISH INSTITUTIONS (CALL MSCA IF 2015) 1. Interested institution: University of Salamanca Cartographic and Land Engineering Department TIDOP Research unit (http://tidop.usal.es) https://vimeo.com/87663787 2. Brief Description of the Institution The University of Salamanca (www.usal.es), founded in 1218 by King Alphonsus IX of Leon, is one of the oldest universities in Europe and has been an academic point of reference throughout its almost 800 years of existence, taking in uncountable generations of students from all parts of the globe. Today the University of Salamanca upholds its academic and research excellence, and together with other European universities is in a process of adapting its teachings to the new “European Higher Education Area”, which seeks to place the student at the centre of learning. The Geomatic Technologies for the 3D digitalization and modelling of cultural heritage (TIDOP) research group was created on 2005 and belongs to the Land and Cartographic Engineering Department of the University of Salamanca (one of the oldest universities in Europe and an academic point of reference throughout its almost 800 years of existence). This recognized research group is characterized by multi-disciplinary members with diverse profiles: geomatics, computer scientist, industrial engineers, civil engineers and architects devoted to the development and application of intelligent sensors and computer systems to engineering and architecture applications. One of the main streams of this group is the transfer of technology with more than 10 patents and intellectual properties. In the last years, the researchers have focused majority of the efforts on the development of algorithms and tools for modelling the world in 3D at scale only using photographs or points clouds. They have been awarded with several international and nationals prizes. As a result, TIDOP research unit works on more than ten projects in collaboration with leading companies in these industries and other issues related to aerospatial systems, energy, security, transport and road inventory and maintenance. The research unit is devoted to advance solutions and products at two different levels related with energy: Energy strategies and solutions for deep renovation of historic buildings; Increasing energy performance of existing buildings through process and organisation innovations and creating a market for deep renovation. “EXPRESSION OF INTEREST” FOR HOSTING MARIE S. CURIE FELLOWS IN SPANISH INSTITUTIONS (CALL MSCA IF 2015) 3. Please tick the areas of research (as established in Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions) ☐ Chemistry (CHE) ☒ Environmental Sciences and Geology (ENV) ☐ Social Sciences and Humanities (SOC) ☐ Life Sciences (LIF) ☐ Economic Sciences (ECO) ☐ Mathematics (MAT) ☒ Information Science and Engineering (ENG) ☐ Physics (PHY) 4. Research / Project Description A Spanish research group (http://tidop.usal.es) offers an innovative tool for 3D reconstruction for Research and Innovation for Engineering, Architecture, ICT enviromental sciences and Geology. This tool is based on the optimization and development of computer vision, photogrammetric and laser scanning methods and algorithms for 3D reconstruction and visualization of natural and man-made sites or objects. The tool encloses flexibility (coping with any type of images and camera), automation (passing from 2D to 3D with one click), scalability (customizing the tools to multiple users and domains) and quality (guarantying high-resolution models even better than the modern laser scanner systems). The idea would be to advance vertical solutions in the fields remarked above (Engineering, Architecture, ICT enviromental sciences and Geology), allowing to provided added value and thus to asssit for problem solving and decision-taking. 5. Who can apply? At the deadline for the submission of proposals (10/09/2015), researchers (*): shall be in possession of a doctoral degree or have at least four years of full-time equivalent research experience. must not have resided or carried out their main activities in the country of Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the abovementioned deadline. 6.
