NCP will go all alone
Sharad Pawar announces the decision to have no allies
By Chandrashekhar Hendve
VASHI: “Nationalist
Congress Party will
fight the coming municipal election all
alone and on its own
strength,” announced
the party’s national
president Sharad
Pawar on Saturday. He
was addressing a large
gathering of party
workers at R F Naik
school campus in Koperkhairane.
Targeting BJP and
the Congress at the
same time, he said that
both the parties have
adopted the American
model where one leader is projected. “Congress has been projecting Rahul Gandhi and
BJP Narendra Modi.
This is not an ideal
model for India,” he declared.
He criticized the
union government for
not announcing a compensation package for
the drought effected
farmers in the state.
He also said that the
NDA government is
trying to dilute the
Food Security Law. He
pointed out how the
proposed amendment
to the Land Acquisition Act is not in the
interest of the farmers.
Speaking on the oc-
casion, former district
Guardian Minister
Ganesh Naik said that
this time, the party
will resort to a positive
campaign. “We will not
criticize any party but
concentrate on telling
people about the good
works done by us,” he

Beware of stray dogs!
NMMC fails to control their
population; sterilisation programme
needs to be speeded up
By a staff reporter
VASHI: The rising
number of stray dogs
in the city has been a
cause of concern. And
the city’s civic body
does not seem to be
having any effective
sterilization programme for them.
Hordes of stray dogs
rummaging a public dust
bins for
eatables is
a common
sight one
witnesses.
In the face
of 14,000 cases of
stray dog bites during
the last one year, the
municipal body is left
with few alternatives
other than putting up
banners ‘Beware of
biting stray dogs” in
public squares.
Makin g matters
worse are groups of
misguided activists
who go under the banner of dog lovers; they
keep feeding these
dogs and prevent any
effective
action
against them,
The most important problem facing
the civic authorities is
the lack of a proper
plot to set up a modern sterilization center. Presently, they
are making do with
one set up on an Ad
hoc basis near the
dumping ground in
Turbhe. The sterilization proper is contracted to some NGO. It is
said to be sterisizing
450 to 500 bitches every month. But that
has proved to be insuf-
ficient as seen from
the growing number of
strays.
According to officials, NMMC needs a
2,000 sq meter plot for
setting up the facility
and it has forwarded
its demand to CIDCO,
which owns all the
land in the city. CIDCO responded
by allotting two
plots in
Sector-24
Sanpada,
one meant
for an animal hospital and the
other for a dog sterilization center. But the
municipal general
body, in its wisdom,
objected to the proposal and went on to cancel the reservation.
Since then, CIDCO, it
is learnt, has earmarked a large plot
(21 acres) at Uran
phata for the purpose.
But there have not
been effective moves
from NMMC or CIDCO to transfer the
plot to the civic body.
As the two bodies continue their spat, the
number of stray dogs
has continued to grow.
It is estimated by experts that the city
needs a sterilization
center with a capacity to castrate/sterilixr
at least 700 dogs per
month.
One only hopes
that the dispute will
soon come to an end
and the work of setting up a new sterilization center resumes fast.

Why so much attraction towards
such dynasty rule?
The 2014 electoral mandate was against dynasty
rule. In the aftermath of its worst-ever electoral defeat, the Congress is refusing to come to terms with
its precipitous situation, retreating into a defence of
its “first family”, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi, rather than
rigorously examining the causes of its ignominious defeat. The party still places full faith in the leadership
of Sonia Gandhi and son Rahul, both of whom offered
to step down, only to take back their resignations in
the face of party protests, which were expected.
The Congress Working Committee spoke of a
“thorough revamp of the organisation at all levels,”
leaving out the two leaders from the scope of the exercise. The tragic truth is that the Congress has paid
a huge price by indulging Rahul Gandhi at the cost of
other potential leadership talent. If Sonia had selected any of the senior leaders in Congress other than
her son Rahul to lead the party in election, they would
have done well in election. The senior leaders in Congress, no matter how experienced, are totally neglected. As far as Congress is concerned, Dynasty is openly
being placed before party. The demand for Priyanka
shows laziness of Congress leaders, who want that the
family should somehow get them power.
Bharatiya Janata Party with its inherent strength
of Cadre and Good pool of talented people and experienced honest leadership of Narendra Modi is not
going to fritter away the advantage easily. The Minorities will also gravitate towards it after experiencing
the benefits. The biggest challenge to Congress will
be from AAP, which will occupy the opposition space
and will correct itself. So the next major election will
be between AAP and BJP.
As long as Jawaharlal Nehru was the Prime Minister, it was Hindu dynasty. When Indira Gandhi became
the Prime Minister, it was Parsee dynasty owing to
the fact that Indira had married a Parsee. Rajeev Gandhi, the next PM, also was representing the Parsee
dynasty. Sonia Gandhi who indirectly ruled India and
so also Rahul Gandhi (If he had to become a PM) could
be said to belong to Parsee dynasty and to a certain
extent Catholic dynasty. If Priyanka Gandhi comes to
power in the future, she will be as good as representing Catholic dynasty. One cannot comprehend why
many Indians wanted this kind of dynasty which was at
the cost of majority community viz. Hindus?
Given the abject servility and sycophancy exhibited by one and all in the party, the Congress has lost
all credibility with the common man who has at long
last realized that the dynasty has no intention of giving up its stranglehold on power and pelf despite all
the theatrics. It is high time that the family retires
permanently from politics gracefully and let others
have a chance.
In the Western world, if the leader of the party cannot get through his party in the election with a clear
mandate, he decides to quit the leadership post. Many
great heads have rolled having failed to get the approval
rating from the voting public in the election. Such custom has been in vogue - even for proven prime Ministers and Premiers! India can boast of its democracy only
if the parties also hold ethics and moral values in owning defeat and quitting posts without waiting.

Raise a toast to being a
woman at Sanpada
By Chandrashekhar Hendve
An expected turnout of over 60
women with interesting backgrounds
will gather on Sunday, March 8, 2015,
between 3-6 pm at Cowboys Cafe, Off
Palm Beach Road, Sanpada, to celebrate being a woman.
The idea is to network and guide
each other/support/contribute time
to help other ladies and give them a
leg up in every way possible. Also,
encourage using each other’s products and services.
The event is an opportunity to
know each other in an informal environment, and then take it forward
in ways where a real difference can
be made. Given the multitude of responsibilities that a woman shoulders, many a times they set aside
their personal ambitions to shoulder
family responsibilities, and do not
revisit it until much later. Perhaps
this forum can help them find their
mojo back, and encourage them to
take the first step towards the new
world.
Networking with other women
will help widen perspectives, help entrepreneurs find support and also inspire women when we see other women achievers.
The group this time comprises
professionals, entrepreneurs, self
employed ladies including:
Mountaineer is Priyanka Mohite,
youngest girl from Maharashtra to
climb Mt Everest. Wants to climb Mt
Lhotse this year which is the fourth
highest mountain, attempting as
first Indian girl...is looking for sponsorship for it.
