Old Bridge Elementary School 3051 Old Bridge Road, Woodbridge, VA Principal’s Corner Hazardous weather and extreme cold caused some unscheduled time away from school for our students in the form of school delays and closings. When school is not in session, please use the time to read with and to your child (ren) and access the many math, reading, science and history web links on the Old Bridge Website. Playing board games and practicing math facts are other excellent ways to exercise the brain. We are extremely proud of the progress our students are making as evidenced by the number of students on the all A and A/B Honor Rolls for the second grading period. Ms. Kazemi and I speak to the students each semester during our Code of Behavior assemblies concerning school-wide expectations, school rules and appropriate school behavior. Please support this at home by reminding your children to be responsible, respectful, safe and a good listener at all times on the bus and at school. 703-491-5614 http://oldbridgees.schools.pwcs.edu/ In an effort to increase communication and spotlight what we are doing each day, OBE will launch a Facebook page starting mid March. We welcome parents to visit the page and view our weekly postings. If for some reason you prefer that your child not be featured on the page, please send us an e-mail to heathsv@pwcs.edu to opt-out your student. Lastly, thank you once again for your support by supervising homework each night, reading with your children, promoting healthy eating habits and daily exercise. A healthy body makes for a healthy mind. Library Media Center News!!! Our readers have been very busy in the library! Since the beginning of this school year, patrons have checked out over 42,000 books – that’s a lot of reading!!! Keep up the good work and when you find something great to read, share it with a friend. One way our students have been reading great books is by participating in the Virginia Readers Choice. Voting for both lists, which you can find online, will be taking place soon! Keep reading! You must have read at least four to vote. Students have been busy fine-tuning their library skills, too. Fourth and fifth graders have been involved playing research games that help them understand various research tools better. Kindergarten, first, second, and third are listening to the great selection of books on the Virginia Readers Choice read-aloud list and voting has begun – we’ll have a winner soon! In addition, 2nd graders students have been researching the ancient civilizations of China and Egypt, while 4th grade is about to start research on Famous Virginians and Friends. 3rd grade will be looking deeper into explorers soon. Summer reading lists are going to be coming out soon – it’s never too soon to start collecting material to read over the summer! Keep on Reading! Krista Britton, Library Media Specialist From the Cafeteria Line... January we gave away a book to one lucky winner. The winner was Martin Bell. February we will be giving away 3 Stuffed Cows to promote milk consumption during breakfast. The first winner was Palmer Smith. The next winners will be announced next month. March we will be having green eggs and Ham. We will also give away one book every day during breakfast. Parents feel free to come and join your child for lunch. Check in with the office and come to the cafeteria with the class. If you have a birthday and would like to order juice or cookies, call the cafeteria. We will bake the cookies for you at a small cost. We also have new items available for a la carte purchasing. Por favor sientase libre de llamar a la cafeteria si usted tiene alguna pregunta al 703-491-0316.
