Old Bridge Elementary School
3051 Old Bridge Road, Woodbridge, VA
Principal’s Corner
Hazardous weather and extreme
cold caused some unscheduled
time away from school for our
students in the form of school
delays and closings. When school
is not in session, please use the
time to read with and to your child
(ren) and access the many math,
reading, science and history web
links on the Old Bridge Website.
Playing board games and practicing
math facts are other excellent
ways to exercise the brain.
We are extremely proud of the
progress our students are making
as evidenced by the number of
students on the all A and A/B
Honor Rolls for the second grading
period. Ms. Kazemi and I speak to
the students each semester
during our Code of Behavior
assemblies concerning school-wide
expectations, school rules and
appropriate
school
behavior.
Please support this at home by
reminding your children to be
responsible, respectful, safe and a
good listener at all times on the
bus and at school.

In an effort to increase
communication and spotlight
what we are doing each day,
OBE will launch a Facebook
page starting mid March. We
welcome parents to visit the
page
and view our weekly
postings. If for some reason
you prefer that your child not
be featured on the page,
please send us an e-mail to
heathsv@pwcs.edu to opt-out
your student.
Lastly, thank you once again
for
your
support
by
supervising homework each
night, reading with your
children, promoting healthy
eating
habits
and
daily
exercise.
A healthy body
makes for a healthy mind.
Proudly serving,
Anita Flemons
Principal

Library Media Center News!!!
Our readers have been very busy in the library! Since the beginning of this school year,
patrons have checked out over 42,000 books – that’s a lot of reading!!! Keep up the good work
and when you find something great to read, share it with a friend.
One way our students have been reading great books is by participating in the Virginia Readers
Choice. Voting for both lists, which you can find online, will be taking place soon! Keep
reading! You must have read at least four to vote.
Students have been busy fine-tuning their library skills, too. Fourth and fifth graders have
been involved playing research games that help them understand various research tools
better. Kindergarten, first, second, and third are listening to the great selection of books on
the Virginia Readers Choice read-aloud list and voting has begun – we’ll have a winner soon!
In addition, 2nd graders students have been researching the ancient civilizations of China and
Egypt, while 4th grade is about to start research on Famous Virginians and Friends. 3rd grade
will be looking deeper into explorers soon.
Summer reading lists are going to be coming out soon – it’s never too soon to start collecting
material to read over the summer!
Keep on Reading!

Art News
Students have been busy in the art room creating art for the Square 1 Art
fundraiser program. With the help of PTO, we will send the special art we created
to the company who will make free stickers for each student of their own art work.
Families will receive a brochure in early March with all the different products
available to purchase that feature your child’s art work! For this program
Kindergarteners made penguin paintings, first graders created self-portraits,
second graders drew lizard designs, third graders drew owl designs, fourth
graders created Australian X-ray fish/turtle designs, and fifth graders painted
pet/animal portraits! The students’ original art work will be returned to them
after the products arrive.
Dates to Remember:
April 18th – All County Arts Festival at Patriot High School
May 5th – OBE Art Night - “Native American and South American Art” and Square 1 Art pick up date
Thanks for supporting the arts!

he/she has earned a Dolphin Ticket lately!

PAWS for Reading
Our second graders are still enjoying our PAWS for Reading Program. Students have been
rotating through the counseling office reading to our PAWS dogs Izzi, Wall-E, Missy, and
Rory for three weeks at a time. PAWS offers a safe and positive environment for reading!
Military Deployment Support Group for Students
The counseling office has an on-going support group for students who have a parent away on a
military deployment. Please contact the counselors if you would like to sign your student up.
He/she can join anytime! Sessions are at 8:35 a.m. on the last Wednesday of every month.
Bully Circle
Fourth and fifth graders have been participating in the Bully Circle during guidance class. The
circle demonstrates the power of bystanders in a bullying situation and how they can decrease
bullying behavior. One person can make a difference at OBE!
