Swim: An Artist’s Journey
Through Thursday, April 23
Franklin G. Burroughs – Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum
3100 South Ocean Boulevard
Enjoy the inspiration of African-American artist Charles Williams at the Franklin G. Burroughs
– Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum, through April 23. In eight large oil paintings and 40 small
painted studies, Williams explores the relationship between the natural environment (the ocean) and
human emotions. These works express the personal awareness of fear – when one is confronted by
the size and mass of water – as well as feelings of uncertainty, as the viewer feels surrounded on all
sides by ocean and darkness. Gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday and Friday, 10:00
a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, and 1:00 to 4:00
p.m., Sunday. Call 238-2510 or visit http://www.myrtlebeachartmuseum.org.

Laurie Blum: My Inner Garden
Through Thursday, April 23
Franklin G. Burroughs – Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum
3100 South Ocean Boulevard
Escape to a lush, exotic garden, fragrant with flowers, under a canopy of vibrantly green trees
with “Laurie Blum: My Inner Garden” at the Franklin G. Burroughs – Simeon B. Chapin Art
Museum, through April 23. Blum’s “Inner Garden” comes to life in this enchanting exhibition of
gouache paintings of the natural, and sometimes fantastical, world, as it exists through the eyes and
soul of the artist. In 2003 and 2004, Blum made three trips to Iran, where she discovered a profound
connection with the Bagh-e Eram Garden (Garden of Paradise) in the city of Shiraz. The garden was
the living embodiment of the paradise imagined by Blum during her youth, her “Inner Garden,” and so
she put the brush to the paper, painting a world rich in color and feeling. In 2007, Blum’s paintings
were exhibited at the United Nations Secretariat Building and The National Arts Club in New York.
Gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday and Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday
and Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday. Call 238-2510 or
visit http://www.myrtlebeachartmuseum.org.
Voices of the Island: The Cuban Art Collection of Reynier Llanes
Through Thursday, April 23
Franklin G. Burroughs – Simeon B. Chapin Art Museum
3100 South Ocean Boulevard
Enjoy the works of artist Reynier Llanes at the Franklin G. Burroughs – Simeon B. Chapin Art
Museum, through April 23. This exhibit features 55 works by 18 artists (including Llanes), all of
whom are from Cuba and most of whom are still living there. The works are all part of Llanes’
personal collection. Though the artists’ styles and subject matter vary greatly, most share several
common themes – a strong link to the Cuban culture and landscape, an emphasis on family or unity,
and reflection on contemporary Cuban society. There are landscapes, abstract pieces, portraits, stilllifes and more. Gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday and Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00
p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Saturday, and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., Sunday.
