BUSINESS APPLICATION
2015 SEASON
The North Valley Arts Council (NoVAC) and Downtown
Development Association (DDA) proudly present the
ninth season of Art & Wine Walk.
This casual summer experience takes guests through
various participating businesses located in historic
Downtown Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. Each
business has a featured artist showcasing their work/
talent while offering wine tasting and appetizers.

Guests buy maps that list each business participating.
Only 13-15 businesses are allowed on the walk each
month, and in order to be eligible for prizes, guests must
get stamps at each business. On average, over 300 guests
participate each month! Remember, best business wins
$100! There’s no better way to get that many people
into your establishment on one day each month during
the summer! We would love to have your business on
the 2015 Art & Wine Walk.
2015 DATES | 1 - 5 p.m. |
June 20 | July 11 | August 8 | September 19 | October 10
APPLICATION DEADLINE |JUNE 1ST, We
continue to accept applications throughout the Art & Wine
Walk Season, but your date(s) of choice may not be available.
If for any reason a business needs to cancel their participation
in one or more of the events, NoVAC and/or the DDA need to
be notified three weeks prior to the event.
REQUIREMENTS | Businesses participating in
Art & Wine Walk ARE REQUIRED to serve/offer at least
one wine selection. You are welcome to serve other
beverages, including non-alcoholic offerings, but you
MUST offer wine as part of the Walk. This is based
on recommendations from guests, as well as proper
representation of the actual event name and purpose. It
is suggested to purchase a case per bottle being offered.
(Example: If you are offering a red and white wine, you
should have 12 bottles of red and 12 bottles of white.)
There is no minimum price per bottle required, but we
strongly suggest $5 and up.
SERVER TRAINING | All businesses participating
in Art & Wine Walk MUST ensure that staff pouring wine on
the day of the event have the proper Server Training through
the Grand Forks Police Department. City Code requires all
persons serving alcohol, even temporarily, possess a certificate
of training issued by the police department. This certificate
can be obtained by successfully completing an Alcohol
Server Training Class and is good for three years. A copy of
certification(s) from each server will be required prior to the
event(s). To register your staff, go here:
http://www.grandforksgov.com/government/citydepartments/police-department/i-want-to/server-training
All businesses participating in Art & Wine Walk MUST
have a liquor license to serve wine. For businesses
that don’t currently have a liquor license, a temporary
liquor license will be provided by the Art & Wine Walk
sponsor, Brick and Barley Bar & Restaurant. A copy of
the temporary license will be presented each month
of participation. (Please note: There is a cost to these
licenses and NoVAC and the DDA sustain those costs for
the businesses participating.)
NoVAC and the DDA will provide wristbands to identify
of-age guests of the Art & Wine Walk. Any guest without
a wristband SHOULD NOT be served wine that is being
offered during the Art & Wine Walk, even if they can
present proper ID. This request is out of respect for
guests who have paid to participate in the Art & Wine
Walk event. Art & Wine Walk organizers and their event
sponsors, officers, directors, employees, and agents do
not condone underage drinking and will assist proper
authorities if brought to our attention.
SAMPLE LIMITS | The Art & Wine Walk is a casual
stroll through Downtown Grand Forks offering guests
samples of wine while enjoying local art within locally-owned
businesses. Sample cups are provided and are just 1.25
ounces in size. Only one sample is allowed per person. If
your business is offering two or more wine choices, it is
recommended that only one sample of one wine is given per
person and that no additional pours per person are given.
Businesses participating in Art & Wine Walk ARE
REQUIRED to serve/offer appetizers. Examples of lowcost offerings include:
•
Meat and cheese assortment tray (with or without crackers)
•
Cheese tray assortment with crackers
•
Variety of tea sandwiches
•
Chips and a variety of dips/salsas (hot or cold)
•
Fruit and vegetable trays with dips
Businesses participating in Art & Wine Walk ARE
REQUIRED to provide a raffle prize (minimum value
$10) for each event they participate. Participants will be
contacted the week of the event to arrange a prize pick
up time. Examples of prizes include:
•
Gift cards (A dollar amount or free offering, not a
BOGO coupon)
•
Lotions, soaps, makeup, and candles
•
Fashion scarves and ties
•
Home décor items
•
Jewelry sets
ART & WINE WALK REPRESENTATIVES WILL BE CALLING
EACH BUSINESS ON THE MONDAY OF EACH EVENT WEEK
TO COLLECT THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:
•
NAME/TYPE OF WINE BEING OFFERED
•
APPETIZERS BEING OFFERED
•
PRIZE BEING OFFERED
•
COPY OF SERVER TRAINING CERTIFICATE(S)
IF A BUSINESS IS NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE INFORMATION
FOR EACH CATEGORY ON THE MONDAY OF EACH EVENT,
THEY MAY FORFEIT THEIR INVOLVEMENT IN THAT
MONTH’S ART & WINE WALK. (Please note: there are
several businesses that use this opportunity to WOW
their event guests and we want to ensure space for
these businesses wanting to fully participate in Art &
Wine Walk.)
ARTISTS | NoVAC places artists and performers in
participating businesses at least two weeks prior to each
Art & Wine Walk. Artists and performers are required
to contact their business at least one week prior to the
event to determine set-up arrangement, as well as set-up
and tear-down times.
Artists and performers are completely responsible
for all aspects of set-up and tear-down of their work.
Businesses MUST provide artists with space, at least one
large table (6 to 8 foot), and two chairs.
Artists are instructed not to hang artwork on walls
without first consulting a business manager.
Businesses may choose their own artists, but these
arrangements are made without NoVAC’s involvement.
The business is responsible for contacting NoVAC at least
one month prior to the event with the name and contact
information of the artist. If that arrangement has already
been made, there is a place to note artist information on
this business application.
If a business would like to display an artist’s work after
the Art & Wine Walk event, the business is encouraged
to make those arrangements with the artist(s) directly.
SPONSORSHIPS | NoVAC and the DDA welcome
sponsors for Art & Wine Walk! With sponsorships, your
business is promoted across the region to over 10,000
people using tools including, but not limited to Websites,
community calendars, eNewsletters, eBlasts, boosting
social media pages, postcards, posters, event banners,
event maps, sandwich boards and much more. If you
would like information on how to have your name and
logo represented during the Art & Wine Walk season,
(March – October), please contact the DDA.
RIGHT OF REFUSAL | Event managers reserve
the right to refuse participation to any artist, performer,
business, or guest for any reason.
•
MAP & SIDEWALK SIGNAGE | Each business
•
is represented on all event maps purchased by guests.
A sample of last year’s August map is attached to this
application. Each business also receives a sandwich board
to place in front of their business during each Art & Wine
Walk they participate. A new poster for the board is
printed each month with the name/logo of the business,
the artist(s) placed at that business and sponsor logos of
the event. As many businesses enjoy being a part of the
Walk each month during the season, we usually leave
the sandwich board with the business throughout the
summer, but the DDA or NoVAC are happy to pick up the
board if requested.
SALE OF ARTWORK | Many artists sell their
artwork during Art & Wine Walk. The business is not
responsible for any aspects of selling the work unless the
business has specifically arranged this directly with the
artist. Musicians may sell recordings of their music, as
long as it doesn’t interfere with the performances.
•
•
•
•
DISPUTES | Although rare, if you experience an
unpleasant experience with your artist or performer,
please notify NoVAC immediately. It is important that
Art & Wine Walk be a fun and rewarding event for
all involved, to which both the DDA and NoVAC are
committed.
