CREW NETWORK
FOUNDATION
WHO WE ARE
Below is a snapshot of CREW Network:
CREW Network Foundation was founded in 1998
as the philanthropic arm of CREW Network. CREW
Network Foundation is the only foundation dedicating
its resources solely towards advancing women in the
commercial real estate industry. We are committed
to bringing more women into commercial real estate
with programs that educate women and girls about
the career opportunities available to them and creating
mentoring relationships for those new to the industry.
Scholarships
The CREW Network Foundation scholarship program supports future female
leaders as they pursue university-level education that will lead to careers in
commercial real estate. Help us plant the seeds of change in the commercial
real estate industry.
Industry Research
Your donations make it possible for CREW Network to remain the leading
publisher of research on women in commercial real estate – research that is
helping close the compensation and advancement gap for women. Through
its benchmark reports and annual white papers, CREW Network can inform the
industry and mark the progress of women in commercial real estate. The results
of this research also direct both CREW Network’s strategic initiatives and its
educational programming.
Career Outreach
Commercial real estate offers rewarding and lucrative careers often overlooked
by women who are often times unaware that these opportunities exist.
CREW Network is committed to bringing more women into commercial real
estate by creating programs that educate women and girls about the career
opportunities available to them (CREW Careers and UCREW) and providing
mentoring relationships to those new to the industry (eMentoring). Your
contributions help fund the programs’ administrative support and participant
materials.
Support
CREW Network Foundation is the only foundation dedicating its resources
solely towards advancing women in the commercial real estate industry
through education and mentoring programs.

FEATURED ARTICLE
TIPS FOR THE
WORKING MOM
By: Lisa Tinnion
Twice a week I meet girlfriends for a 5:30am run along the
canal, our “healthy happy hour”. Our run went long one
morning which meant my entire routine was “off”. I rushed
home, raced through the door and kissed my husband as he
was feeding Eddie, our 22-month old. In fast motion, I grabbed
coffee, showered, put on make-up (no time to dry hair), got
dressed, scanned my inbox and kissed my husband goodbye.
Next up, Eddie. With the same swiftness, I got him dressed,
brushed his teeth and headed to his day care. I finally head
to the office! All of this before 8:30 am. Sometimes I remember
how accomplished I felt if I only made it to the gym and office
by 8:30! I didn’t need to dress someone else, drop them off or
even think about anyone else’s schedule.
Such a scenario in a mom’s world is only possible with the
following:
1. A schedule is essential! I used to hate schedules, now I live
by them.
2. It takes a village! Surrounding yourself with supportive
people is imperative.
3. Sometimes the busier you are the more you accomplish!
That same day I attended AZCrew’s brown bag lunch at
Evergreen. Each person shared a glimpse in their career, current
projects and family life. Michelle Rutkowski specifically asked the
other working mothers for advice on how to effectively raise a
happy family while maintaining a successful career. I too have
been looking for this type of wisdom...and encouragement!
The next day Krystal Dill copied me on correspondence with
Christie Veldhuizen discussing her upcoming spotlight in
this newsletter. Christie mentioned how proud she is of her
3 wonderful daughters, of raising them and of her successful
career.
Her words stopped me in my tracks as I realized the power of
AZCREW! We are a group of smart, talented, successful ladies
across the different stages of our life…both professionally and
personally. We need to share our stories. We need to celebrate
the wins, learn from the losses and use them to empower and
educate fellow members with their next big steps. AZCREW
is the perfect resource to cultivate such an environment and
community.
Page 6
“Every family dynamic is different and what
works for some professional women may not
work for you. Find YOUR balance. “
I asked a few members the simple (but difficult to answer)
question:
“What advice do you have for the new working mother?”
Work life balance is very important to me as a working mom. I
had to learn how to better prioritize and how to say no so that I
could give my all to the opportunities I did decide to take on.
-Lindsey Carlson, Colliers - Vice President | Office Properties Solutions
Before I had Ainsley I was petrified about how I was going to
fit all of my work into one day, and manage to be an attentive,
loving Mommy. I learned very quickly to focus on the things
that are most important and to cut the “fat” from my schedule.
I also learned to manipulate my time throughout the day. Work
doesn’t just have to happen between the hours of 8 – 5. For
me, I get to work early, am home with the girls by 5:30, and am
back online after dinner. Flexibility is key, as is communicating
and sharing the workload – both in the office and at home –
with my husband.
-Jackie Orcutt, Cushman & Wakefield
Pay for great help in childcare and housecleaning, it is the best
money we spend each month. Every family dynamic is different
and what works for some professional women may not work for
you. Find YOUR balance.
-Michelle Rutkowski, DGDG
While it may appear daunting from the outside I feel that
managing a career as a mom is easier than staying at home
full time with the kiddos. With both my husband and I
are dedicated to careers in commercial real estate and our
schedules are, in most cases, conflicting so I/we try to find
balance by doing the following.
1. Prioritizing – I assess quickly what return I get out of taking
on certain tasks and when to delegate.
2. It Takes a Village – This saying is so true! We have 4 onstandby babysitters to avoid the untimely sick day.
3. Valuing my Time – No matter what new things I take on (at
home or at the office) I always look at the return on investment.
The investment being precious time invested in that task that
takes me away from other obligations.
