Glovebox *: if equipped 7 4 VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER A Vehicle Identification Number or Chassis Number, commonly abbreviated to VIN, is a unique serial number used by the automotive industry to identify individual motor vehicles. VIN is used in registering your car and in all legal matters pertaining to its ownership, etc. The number is punched on the floor under the front of driver’s seat. ENGINE NUMBER Every vehicle engine is marked with an engine number by the factory. The engine number includes coded information, such as year of manufacture, country of manufacture and engine type. The engine number is stamped on the engine block as shown in the picture. TIRE SPECIFICATION AND PRESSURE LABEL The tires on your new vehicle are chosen to provide the best performance under normal driving conditions. The tire label located on the driver’s side center pillar denotes the tire pressures recommended for your car. ● Keep the recommended tire pressure (33psi) ● Indian roads slope are towards the outer side o o (3 -6 ), which may cause the vehicle to drift outwards ● While driving, always hold the steering wheel lightly so that the vehicle moves straight 5 SAFETY KEYS: Keys can be used to start/stop the engine, lock/unlock the doors (or tailgate). ● This function helps you conveniently lock/unlock the door locks from a distance or when inside the cabin, giving you maximum safety and protection ● The doors will not lock if the ignition key is in the ignition switch Remote Keyless Entry 1. Lock (All hazard lights blink once to indicate all doors are locked) 2. Unlock (All hazard lights blink twice to indicate all doors are unlocked) Smart Key The functions of buttons on a smart key are similar to the remote keyless entry. A smart key can lock and unlock the door/ trunk locks and even start the engine without inserting the key into the ignition lock. ● To remove the mechanical key, press and hold the release button ● To reinstall the mechanical key, put the key into the hole and push it until a click sound is heard START/STOP SWITCH Start/stop Switch: This button is provided to switch on and switch off the engine. The engine will start only if the immobilizer senses the key within the specified distance. Using The Door Handle Switch ● Press the button of the front outside door handles with all doors (and trunk) closed to lock the doors. The button will only operate when the smart key is within 0.7~1 m (28~40 in.) from the outside door handle. 6 ● Even though you press the outside door handle buttons, the doors will not lock and the chime will sound for 3 seconds if any of following occur: ▶The smart key is in the vehicle ▶The ignition switch is in ACC or ON position ▶Any door except the trunk is open CENTRAL LOCKING ● The driver’s door lock controls the central locking system ● When the driver’s door is locked the passenger doors also get locked automatically Using central door lock switch Operate by pressing the central door lock switch. ● When pushing down on the front portion (1) of the switch, all vehicle doors will lock ● When pushing down on the rear portion (2) of the switch, all vehicle doors will unlock Immobilizer System (If Equipped): ● Electronic Engine Immobilizer System is provided to reduce the risk of unauthorized vehicle use To deactivate the immobilizer system: ● Insert the ignition key into the key cylinder and turn it to the ON position To activate the immobilizer system: ● Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. The immobilizer system activates automatically. Without a valid ignition key for your vehicle, the engine will not start Theft Alarm System (If Equipped): This system is designed to provide protection from unauthorized entry into the car. If triggered, the system provides an audible alarm with blinking of the hazard warning lights. The alarm will be activated if any of the following occurs whilst the system is armed; ● A door is opened without using the transmitter (or smart key) 7 ● The trunk is opened without using the transmitter (or smart key) ● The engine bonnet is opened CHILD-PROTECTOR REAR DOOR LOCK ● Child-protector rear door lock feature is provided so that the doors cannot be opened from the inside ● Move the protector lever to the “Lock” position and close the door to activate ● Move the lever to the “UnLock” position when normal door operation is desired ● To open the door from outside, pull the outside door handle AIRBAG - SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (If equipped) ● An Airbag is a vehicle safety device. It inflates instantly in the event of a serious frontal or side collision in order to help protect the occupant from serious physical injury (refer to the Owner’s Manual for details) ● In case of any problem in the system an airbag warning light in your instrument panel will glow to alert you of a potential problem with your airbag supplementary restraint system 1. Driver’s Front Airbag* 2. Passenger front Airbag* 3. Side Airbag* 4. Curtain Airbag* *: if equipped WARNING Even in vehicles with airbags, you and your passengers must always wear the safety belts provided in order to minimize the risk and severity of injury in the event of a collision or rollover. CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM (If equipped) ● Children riding in the car should sit in the rear seat and must always be properly restrained to minimize the risk of injury in an accident, sudden braking or sudden maneuver 8 SPEED SENSING DOOR LOCK SYSTEM All doors automatically lock after the vehicle speed exceeds 15 km/h and all doors automatically unlock when you turn the engine off or when you remove the ignition key IMPACT SENSING DOOR UNLOCK SYSTEM (If equipped) All doors automatically unlock after an impact causing the airbags to deploy. SEAT & SEAT BELTS HOW TO SIT COMFORTABLY Adjusting Seat Forward And Backward Manual (If Equipped): To move the seat forwards or backwards, pull the seat slide adjustment lever up and hold it. Slide the seat to the position you desire. Release the lever and make sure the seat is locked in place. Automatic (If Equipped): Push the control switch forwards or backwards to move the seat to the desired position. Release the switch once the seat reaches the desired position. Adjusting Seatback Angle Manual (If Equipped): To recline the seatback, lean forward slightly and pull up the front portion of the seatback recline lever. Carefully lean back on the seat and adjust the seatback of the seat to the position you desire. Release the lever and make sure the seatback is locked in place. (The lever MUST return to its original position for the seatback to lock.) Automatic (If Equipped): Push the control switch forwards or backwards to move the seatback to the desired angle. Release the switch once the seat reaches the desired position. 9 Adjusting Seat Cushion Height (If Equipped) Manual (If Equipped): To change the height of the seat cushion, push the lever that is located on the outside of the seat cushion upwards or downwards. ● To lower the seat cushion, push the lever down several times ● To raise the seat cushion, pull the lever up several times Automatic (If Equipped): Pull the front portion of the control switch up to raise or down to lower the front part of the seat cushion. Pull the rear portion of the control switch up to raise or down to lower the rear part of the seat cushion. Release the switch once the seat reaches the desired position. Lumbar Support (For driver’s seat, if Equipped) The lumbar support can be adjusted by pressing the lumbar support switch on the side of the driver’s seat. Press the front portion of the switch to increase support, or the rear portion of the switch, to decrease support. Headrests The driver’s and front passenger’s seats are equipped with a headrest for the occupant’s safety and comfort. The headrest not only provides comfort for the driver and front passenger, but also helps to protect the head and neck in the event of a collision. Adjusting the Headrest Height and Angle (If Equipped) ● To raise the headrest, pull it up to the desired position or remove completely (2) ● To lower the headrest, push and hold the release button (1) on the headrest support and lower the headrest to the desired position (3) 10 Headrest Adjustment (Fig A) A The headrest may be adjusted forward to 3 different positions by pulling the headrest forward to the desired detent. Active Headrest (Fig B) The active headrest is designed to move forward and upward during a rear impact. This helps to prevent the driver’s and front passenger’s heads from moving backward and thus helps prevent neck injuries. B Seat Warmer (If Equipped) (Fig C) The seat warmer is provided to warm the front seats during cold weather. When the ignition switch is in the ON position, press the front portion of the switches to warm the driver’s seat or the front passenger’s seat. ● The temperature setting of the seat is changed as Follows : Air Ventilation Seat (If Equipped) The air ventilation is provided to cool the front seats during hot weather by blowing air through small vent hole on the surface of the seats and seatbacks. ● Each time you press the button, the airflow will change as follows : Seat Belts The use of seat belts reduces the risk of accident injury by avoiding collision with the interior of the car and by preventing the occupants from being thrown out of the car. Seat Belt Warning (If Equipped) As a reminder to the driver, the seat belt warning light will blink for approximately 6 seconds each time you turn the ignition switch on regardless of belt fastening. If the driver’s seat belt is unfastened after the ignition switch is ON, the seat belt warning light blinks again for approximately 6 seconds. C 11 To Fasten Your Seat Belt To fasten your seat belt, pull it out of the retractor and insert the metal tab (1) into the buckle (2). There will be an audible “click” when the tab locks into the buckle. The seat belt automatically adjusts to the proper length only after the lap belt portion is adjusted manually. Height Adjustment (Front Seat) You can adjust the height of the shoulder belt anchor to one of 3 positions for maximum comfort and safety. To raise the height adjuster, pull it up (1). To lower it, push it down (3). while pressing the height adjuster button (2). Seat belts can also be lengthened and shortened as per comfort and requirement. To Release The Seat Belt The seat belt is released by pressing the release button (1) in the locking buckle. When it is released, the belt should automatically draw back into the retractor. Pre-tensioner Seat Belt Your vehicle is equipped with driver’s and front passengers pre-tensioner seat belts. The purpose of the pre-tensioner is to make sure that the seat belts fit tightly against the occupant’s body in certain frontal collisions. TRIP COMPUTER The trip computer is a microcomputer controlled driver information system that displays information related to driving on the display when the ignition switch is in the ON position. All stored driving information (except odometer) is reset if the battery is disconnected. 1. Odometer (km) The odometer indicates the total distance the vehicle has been driven. The odometer is always displayed until the display is turned off. 2. Trip meter (km) TRIP A: Trip meter A TRIP B: Trip meter B This mode indicates the distance of individual trips selected since the last trip meter reset. 12 3. Distance to empty (Km) (If Equipped) This mode indicates the estimated distance to empty based on the current fuel in the fuel tank and the amount of fuel delivered to the engine. 4. Average fuel consumption (If Equipped) (Km/L) This mode calculates the average fuel consumption from the total fuel used and the distance since the last average consumption reset. 5. Instant fuel consumption (Km/L) (If Equipped) This mode calculates the instant fuel consumption every 2 seconds from the driving distance and quantity of fuel injection. 6. Average speed (Km/h) This mode calculates the average speed of the vehicle since the last average speed reset. Even if the vehicle is not in motion, the average speed keeps going while the engine is running. 7. Elapsed time This mode indicates the total time traveled since the last driving time reset. Even if the vehicle is not in motion, the driving time keeps going while the engine is running. 8. ECO ON/OFF mode (If Equipped) You can turn the shift indicator on/off on the instrument cluster in this mode. If you push the RESET button for more that 1 second in the ECO ON mode, ECO OFF is displayed in the screen and the shift indicator turns off. If you want to display the shift indicator again, press the RESET button for more than 1 second in the ECO OFF mode and then ECO ON mode is displayed in the screen. 13 Manual transaxle shift indicator (If Equipped) This indicator informs you which gear is desired while driving to save fuel. For example : Indicates that shifting up to the 3rd gear is desired (currently the shift lever is in the 2nd gear). : Indicates that shifting down to the 3rd gear is desired (currently the shift lever is in the 4th gear). Driver Seat Position Memory System (If Equipped) A driver position memory system is provided to store and recall the driver seat position with simple button operation. By saving the desired position into the system memory, different drivers can reposition the driver seat based upon their driving preference. If the battery is disconnected, the position memory will be lost and the default driving position should be restored in the system. MIRRORS Day/Night Inside Rear View Mirror Pull the day/night lever toward you to reduce the glare from the headlights of the vehicles behind you during night driving. Remember that you lose some rear view clarity in the night position. Electric Chromic Mirror (ECM) (If Equipped) The electric chromic mirror automatically controls the glare from the headlights of the car behind you at night or low light driving conditions. When the engine is running, the glare is automatically controlled by the sensor mounted in the rear view mirror To operate the electric rear view mirror: Press the ON/OFF button (1) to turn the automatic dimming function on/off. The mirror indicator light will illuminate. NIGHT DAY Rear view display (if equipped) Sensor Indicator 14 Outside Rear View Mirrors Be sure to adjust mirror angles before driving. Your vehicle is equipped with both left hand and right-hand outside rear view mirrors. The mirrors can be adjusted remotely with the remote switch. The mirror heads can be folded back to prevent damage during an automatic car wash or when passing in a narrow street. Remote control: The electric remote control mirror switch allows you to adjust the position of the left and right outside rear view mirrors. Push the switch (1) to R or L to select the right side mirror or the left side mirror, then press a corresponding point on the mirror adjustment control to position the selected mirror up, down, left or right. Folding The Outside Rear View Mirror Electric Type: To fold the outside rear view mirror, depress the button. To unfold it, depress the button again. Power Windows (If Equipped): The ignition switch must be in the ON position for power windows to operate. Each door has a power window switch that controls the door’s window. The driver has a power window lock switch which can block the operation of passenger windows. Window opening and closing: The driver’s door has a master power window switch that controls all the windows in the vehicle. To open or close a window, press down or pull up the front portion of the corresponding switch to the first detent position (5). Auto up/down window (if equipped): Depressing or pulling up the power window switch momentarily to the second detent position (6) completely lowers or lifts the window even when the switch is released. Automatic reversal: If the upward movement of the window is blocked by an object or part of the body, the window will detect the resistance and will stop upward movement. The window will then lower approximately 30 cm (11.8 in.) to allow the object to be cleared. WARNING In case of the electric type of outside rearview mirror, don’t fold it by hand. It could cause the failure of the motor. 15 OPERATING ENGINE HOOD, TAILGATE AND FUEL FILLER LID ENGINE HOOD 1. Pull the release lever to unlatch the bonnet. The bonnet should pop open slightly 2. Go to the front of the vehicle, raise the bonnet slightly, pull the secondary latch (1) inside of the bonnet centre and lift the bonnet (2) 3. Raise the bonnet. It will raise completely by itself after it has been raised about halfway TRUNK Opening the trunk: To open the trunk, press the trunk unlock button for more than 1 second on the transmitter (or smart key), press the button on the trunk handle with the smart key in your possession. To open the trunk from inside the vehicle, pull the trunk lid release lever. Once the trunk is opened and then closed, the trunk is locked automatically. Fuel Filler Lid Opening the fuel filler lid: The fuel filler lid must be opened from inside the vehicle by pushing the fuel filler lid opener button. 1. Stop the engine 2. To open the fuel filler lid, push the fuel filler lid opener button 3. Pull the fuel filler lid (1) out to fully open 4. To remove the cap, turn the fuel tank cap (2) counterclockwise 5. Refuel as needed REAR PARKING ASSIST SYSTEM (If Equipped) The rear parking assist system assists the driver while reversing the vehicle by chiming if any object is sensed within a distance of 120 cm (47 in.) behind the vehicle. 16 This system is a supplemental system and it is not intended to nor does it replace the need for extreme care and attention of the driver. Operating Condition: ● This system will activate when backing up with the ignition switch on ● The sensing distance whilst the rear parking assist system is in operation is approximately 120 cm (47 in.) ● When more than two objects are sensed at the same time, the closest one will be recognized first REARVIEW CAMERA (If Equipped) The rearview camera will activate when the back-up light is on with the ignition switch on and the shift lever in the R position. This system is a supplemental system that shows behind the vehicle through the monitor whilst reversing. To turn on or off the monitor, press the ON/ OFF button (1) with the ignition switch In the ON position and the shift lever in the R (Reverse) position. HAZARD WARNING FLASHER The hazard warning flasher should be used whenever you find it necessary to stop the car in a hazardous location. When you must make such an emergency stop, always pull off the road as much as possible. BATTERY SAVER FUNCTION The purpose of this feature is to prevent the battery from being discharged. The system automatically turns off the parking lights when the driver removes the ignition key (smart key: turns off the engine) and opens the driver’s side door. HEADLIGHT ESCORT FUNCTION (If Equipped) If you turn the ignition switch to the ACC or OFF position with the headlights ON, the headlights (and/or tail lights) remain on for about 20 minutes. However, if the driver’s door is opened and closed, the headlights are turned off after 30 seconds. The headlights can be turned off by pressing the lock button on the transmitter (or smart key) twice or turning the light switch to the OFF or Auto position. However, the Headlight escort function can 17 be deactivated when the headlight switch is in the Auto position. HEADLIGHT WELCOME FUNCTION (If Equipped) When the headlight is on or in AUTO position and all doors (and trunk) is closed and locked, if you press the door unlock button on the transmitter (or the smart key), the headlight will come on for about 15 seconds. At this time, if you press the door lock or unlock button, the headlight will turn off immediately. LIGHTING CONTROL The light switch has a Headlight and a Parking light position. To operate the lights, turn the knob at the end of the control lever to one of the following positions: (1) OFF position (2) Parking light position (3) Headlight position a (4) Auto light position a) Parking Light Position ( ) When the light switch is in the parking light position, the tail, license and instrument panel lights are on and the tail light indicator is on. (If Equipped) b b) Headlight Position ( ) When the light switch is in the headlight position, the head, tail and license lights are on. c) Auto Light Position c When the light switch is in the AUTO light position, the taillights and headlights will be turned on or off automatically depending on the amount of light outside the vehicle. d) High Beam Operation To turn on the high beam headlights, push the lever away from you. Pull it back for low beams. The high beam indicator will light when the headlight high beams are switched on. d 18 e) Flashing Headlights e To flash the headlights, pull the lever towards you. It will return to the normal (low beam) position when released. The headlight switch does not need to be on to use this flashing feature. f) Turn Signals And Lane Change Signals f The ignition switch must be on for the turn signals to function. To turn on the turn signals, move the lever up or down (A). g) Front Fog Light Fog lights are used to provide improved visibility and avoid accidents when visibility is poor due to fog, rain or snow etc. The fog lights will turn on when fog light switch (1) is turned on after the parking light is turned on. HOW TO REMOVE HEADLIGHT CONDENSATION/MOISTURE. After heavy rain or washing, mist/moisture can be formed inside headlight and taillamps due to temperature difference between lamp inside & outside. To remove the moisture formed inside the headlamp. Switch ON the headlamps for 30 mintutes and the moisture will automatically disappear within 30 minutes. Manual Climate Control System 1. Temprature Control: This is used to turn the heating on and off and to select the degree of temprature desired 2. A/C on and off switch: The air condition is turned on by starting the AC button 3. Air Intake Control: This allows you to select fresh outside air or to recirculate inside air 4. Air Flow Control: This is used to direct the flow of air. Air can be directed to floor, face, dashboard outlets or windshield 5. Fan Speed Control: This is used to control the blower speed and turn the blower fan on or off DEFOGGING WINDSHIELDS g 19 Recirculated Air Position: The indicator light on the button illuminates when the recirculated air position is selected, with the recirculated air position selected, air from passenger compartment will recirculate in the passenger compartment. Fresh Air Position: With the outside (fresh) air position selected, air enters the vehicle from outside and is heated or cooled according to the function selected. To Remove Internal Fog On Windshield ● Set air intake to fresh air mode by switching off recirculation mode ● Set air flow to defrost ● Turn on the A/C ● Set temprature control to desired position ● Set fan speed as required To Remove External Fog On Windshield ● Set air intake to fresh air mode by switching off recirculation mode ● Set air flow control to defrost ● Set temprature control to warm ● Set fan speed to higher position NOTE Blower without A/C should only be used with fresh air mode to avoid any fogging. Operate A/C at blower first after initial cooling at high speed. Do not turn the louvers towards window side to prevent formation of fog on windows. 20 Use Rear Defogger Switch To Clear Rear Windshield Fog (If Equipped): The defroster heats the window to remove frost, fog and thin ice from the rear window, while the engine is running. To activate the rear window defroster, press the rear window defroster button located in the center fascia switch panel. DOES YOUR A/C GET COLD ENOUGH ? ● If the interior of the car is very hot when you first get in, open the windows for a few minutes to expel the hot air ● When you are using the air conditioning system, keep all windows closed to keep hot air out ● When moving slowly, as in heavy traffic, shift to a lower gear. This increases engine speed, which in turn increases the speed of the air conditioning compressor ● On steep grades, turn the air conditioning off to avoid the possibility of the engine overheating ● During winters or in periods when the air conditioning is not used regularly, run the air conditioning once every 15 days for a few minutes. This will help circulate the lubricants and keep your system in peak operation condition ● To prevent dust or unpleasant fumes from entering the car through the ventilation system, temporarily set the air intake control at the recirculation mode. Be sure to return the control to the fresh air mode WIPERS AND WASHERS Windscreen wipers operate as follows when the ignition switch is turned on. MIST : For a single wiping cycle, push the lever upward and release it with the lever in the OFF position. The wipers will operate continuously if the lever is pushed upward and held. OFF : Wiper is not in operation INT Wiper operates intermittently at the same wiping intervals. Use this mode in a light rain or : 21 mist. To vary the speed setting, turn the speed control knob(1). LO : Normal wiper speed HI : Fast wiper speed AUTO CONTROL (IF EQUIPPED) The rain sensor located on the upper end of the windscreen glass senses the amount of rainfall and controls the wiping cycle for the proper interval. The more it rains, the faster the wiper operates. When the rain stops, the wiper stops. To vary the speed setting, turn the speed control knob (1). WINDSCREEN WASHERS In the OFF position, pull the lever gently toward you to spray washer fluid on the windscreen and to run the wipers 1-3 cycles. Use this function when the windscreen is dirty. The spray and wiper operation will continue until you release the lever. HEADLIGHT WASHER (IF EQUIPPED) If your vehicle is equipped with the headlight washer it will operate at the same time when you operate the windscreen washer. It will operate when the headlight switch is in the first or second position and the ignition switch or engine start/stop button is in the ON position. The Full Automatic Temperature Control (FATC) system automatically controls the heating and cooling system as follows; 1. Push the AUTO button. The modes, fan speeds, air intake and air-conditioning will be controlled automatically by temperature setting. 2. Turn the temperature control knob to set the desired temperature. If the temperature is set to the lowest setting (LO), the air conditioning system will operate continuously 9. Fan speed control switch 10. Air intake control button 11. Air conditioning button 12. Dual temperature control selection button 13. Passenger’s temperature control knob 23 3. To turn the automatic operation off, press any button except the temperature control knob. If you press the mode selection button, air conditioning button, defrost button or the fan speed knob, the selected function will be controlled manually while other functions operate automatically NOTE Never place anything over the sensor located on the instrument panel to ensure better control of the heating and cooling system. FOR SMOOTH GEAR SHIFTING Manual Transaxle Operation The manual transaxle has 6 forward gears. This shift pattern is imprinted on the shift knob. The transaxle is fully synchronized in all forward gears so shifting to either a higher or a lower gear is easily accomplished. Press the clutch pedal down fully whilst shifting, then release it slowly. If your vehicle is equipped with an ignition lock switch, the engine will not start when starting the engine without depressing the clutch pedal. (If equipped) NOTE: ● The clutch should be pressed all the way to the floor before gear shifting then released slowly after finishing gear change for smooth acceleration ● When blocking happens during shift into reverse gear, slightly lift your foot to a quarter of the full stroke while pushing the lever to the reverse gear direction ● There can be gear grinding noise if you shift into “R” position too quickly or with vehicle moving to prevent it move the lever into “R” position after your car has completely stopped Automatic Transaxle The automatic transaxle has 6 forward speeds and one reverse speed. The individual speeds are selected automatically, depending on the position of the shift lever. P (Park): Always come to a complete stop before shifting into P (Park). This position locks the transaxle and prevents the drive wheels from rotating. 24 R (Reverse): Use this position to drive the vehicle backwards. N (Neutral): The wheels and transaxle are not engaged. The vehicle will roll freely even on the slightest incline unless the parking brake or service brakes are applied. D (Drive): This is the normal forward driving position. The transaxle will automatically shift through a 6-gear sequence, providing the best fuel economy and power. SPORTS MODE Whether the vehicle is stationary or in motion, sports mode is selected by pushing the shift lever from the D (Drive) position into the manual gate. In sports mode, moving the shift lever backwards and forwards will allow you to make gearshifts rapidly. Up (+) : Down (-) : Push the lever forward once to shift up one gear Pull the lever backwards once to shift down one gear Paddle Shifter (If Equipped) The paddle shifter is available when the shift lever is in the D position or the sport mode Shift-Lock Override If the shift lever cannot be moved from the P (Park) or N (Neutral) position into R (Reverse) position with the brake pedal depressed, continue depressing the brake, then do the following: 1. Carefully remove the cap covering the shift-lock override access hole 2. Insert a screwdriver (or key) into the access hole and press down on the screwdriver (or key) 3. Move the shift lever 4. We recommend that the system be inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer PARKING BRAKE Applying the parking brake 25 Foot type (If Equipped): To engage the parking brake, first apply the foot brake and then depress the parking brake pedal down as far as possible. Hand type (If Equipped): To engage the parking brake, first apply the foot brake and then pull up the parking brake lever as far as possible. Foot Type Releasing the parking brake Foot type (If Equipped): To release the parking brake, depress the parking brake pedal a second time whilst applying the foot brake. The pedal will automatically extend to the fully released position. Hand type (If Equipped): To release the parking brake, first apply the foot brake and pull up the parking brake lever slightly. Secondly depress the release button (1 and lower the parking brake lever (2) whilst holding the button. Cruise Control System (If Equipped) The cruise control system allows you to program the vehicle to maintain a constant speed without pressing the accelerator pedal. This system is designed to function above approximately 40 km/h (25 mph). To Set Cruise Control Speed: 1. Push the cruise ON-OFF button on the steering wheel to turn the system on. The CRUISE indicator light in the instrument cluster will illuminate 2. Accelerate to the desired speed, which must be more than 40 km/h (25 mph) 3. Push the SET- switch, and release it at the desired speed. The SET indicator light in the instrument cluster will illuminate. Release the accelerator pedal. The desired speed will automatically be maintained To cancel Cruise Control, do one of the following: ● Press the brake pedal ● Press the clutch pedal with a manual transaxle ● Shift into N (Neutral) with an automatic transaxle Hand Type 26 ● Press the CANCEL switch located on the steering wheel ● Decrease the vehicle speed lower than the memory speed by 15 km/h (9 mph) ● Decrease the vehicle speed to less than approximately 40 km/h (25 mph) Power Outlet (If Equipped) The power outlet is designed to provide power for mobile telephones or other devices designed to operate with vehicle electrical systems. The devices should draw less than 10 amps with the engine running. Cigarette Lighter (If Equipped) For the cigarette lighter to work, the ignition switch must be in the ACC position or the ON position. To use the cigarette lighter, push it all the way into its socket. When the element has heated, the lighter will pop out to the “ready” position. Digital Clock (If Equipped) Whenever the battery terminals or related fuses are disconnected, you must reset the time. When the ignition switch is in the ACC or ON position, the clock buttons operate as follows : Hour (1) Pressing the H button with your finger, a pencil or similar object will advance the time displayed by one hour. Minute (2) Pressing the M button with your finger, a pencil or similar object will advance the time displayed by one minute. AUX, USB AND iPOD PORT (if equipped) If your vehicle has an AUX and/or USB (universal serial bus) port/iPod port, you can use an AUX port to connect audio devices, a USB port to plug in a USB, and an iPod port to plug in an iPod. 27 Tilt Steering Wheel (If Equipped): Tilt steering allows you to adjust the steering wheel before you drive. You can also raise it to give your legs more room when you exit and enter the vehicle. The steering wheel should be positioned so that it is comfortable for you to drive, whilst permitting you to see the instrument panel warning lights and gauges. To change the steering wheel angle, pull down the lock release lever (1), adjust the steering wheel to the desired angle (2) and height (3), then pull up the lock release lever to lock the steering wheel in place. Be sure to adjust the steering wheel to the desired position before driving. Bluetooth® Wireless Technology Bluetooth® Wireless Technology is a wireless technology that allows multiple devices to be connected in a short range, low-powered devices like hands-free, stereo headset, wireless remote control, etc. General Features: This audio system supports Bluetooth®Wireless Technology hands-free and stereoheadset features. HANDS-FREE feature: Making or receiving calls wirelessly. STEREO-HEADSET feature: Playing music from cellular phones (that supports A2DP feature) wirelessly. Steering Wheel Audio Control (If Equipped) The steering wheel audio control button is installed to promote safe driving. VOLUME (VOL +/-) (1) ● Press the up button (+) to increase volume ● Press the down button (-) to decrease volume SEEK/PRESET (^ / v ) (2): If the SEEK/PRESET button is pressed for 0.8 second or more, it will work as follows in each mode. MODE (3): Press the MODE button to select Radio, CD (Compact Disc) or CDC *(Compact Disc Changer). 28 ECONOMICAL OPERATION Inflate tyres at correct pressure ● Maintain correct tyres pressure (33psi for petrol & diesel) as under inflation can lead to an extra 10% on your fuel bill Maximise use of top gear & drive at a cost conscious speed between 45-50 kmph. ● Maximise the use of top gear for better fuel economy. Top gear driving increases fuel efficiency by 20% to 25% as compared to 3rd gear driving Are you driving in low gears to make your engine a fuel-holic? ● Drive your car in correct gear NOTE It is wrong to assume the 5th overdrive gear is only for high speed highway driving. Use of 5th overdrive gear in city driving will greatly help to improve fuel economy. Avoid frequent gear changes, acceleration and braking ● Avoid frequent gear changes, acceleration and braking through planned driving by looking ahead and judging the speed of other vehicle & timing of traffic lights etc. Do not ride the clutch pedal ● Do not ride the clutch pedal. This will cause its slippage, resulting in more fuel consumption and damage to the clutch parts Do not leave the car in idle ● Three minutes idling = 1 Km lost. Do not keep the engine idling for more than 2 minutes while waiting for somebody, loading/unloading or while being stopped by congested traffic or signal Regular service saves fuel ● Get your car regularly serviced & tuned for improved performance (ex. Engine oil & filter) Release the parking brake before take off ● Releasing the parking brake fully before take off to avoid straining of Brakes & Engine Use air conditioner only when it is essential 29 ● Use air conditioner judiciously as it consumes 2025% of total fuel consumed Use Hyundai Genuine oil to increase the mileage ● If you already know that good engine Oil is vital to your engine’s long life and Smooth performance, it is rather easy to choose one. Use only Hyundai Genuine Oils for Engines, Transmission, Brakes and Radiator coolant Travel Light ● Take all unnecessary load off your car. Avoid carrying stuff you don’t require for your current trip. Travelling light allows your engine to run smoothly without wasting effort & fuel NOTE Driving habit and traffic condition will affect the fuel economy. Understanding Normal Vehicle Operation There may be a number of operation conditions where you may experience a slight change in engine speed. These conditions do not indicate a problem, in fact, they are normal. We are providing you with this information to ensure that you have accurate information regarding your vehicle. Note: Some of the features listed below are optional on some vehicles and may not be applicable to your specific vehicle. Engine Power Condition When Air Conditioner is ON AC Compressor is connected with engine to make use of engine power for compressor function, whenever AC is ON, and there will be minor drop in engine power due to power sharing from engine to AC compressor, which is a normal phenomenon and there is no existence of engine power loses.
