What is the difference between an AQ & an ABQ course? • AQ = Additional Qualification Courses Teachers take AQ courses to gain more knowledge in a subject area (e.g., Special Education, ESL) • ABQ = Additional Basic Qualification Courses Teachers take ABQ courses to qualify to teach in additional divisions or grades (e.g., Junior ABQ course – grades 4 to 6) 2. What kinds of courses are offered? AQ Courses • • 3 part AQ courses - where you begin by taking Part 1 and then choose to take Part 2 and Specialist if you so desire OR 1 session courses, where you focus on one subject area (e.g., Grades 7 & 8 Math) ABQ Courses • • • • Primary ABQ (Kindergarten to Grade 3) Junior ABQ (Grades 4 to 6) Intermediate ABQ (Grades 7 to 10) Senior ABQ (Grades 11 and 12) You are required to choose a teachable subject when taking an Intermediate or Senior ABQ course (e.g., Intermediate Math, Senior Biology) 3. What are prerequisites for courses? • • • • member of good standing with OCT Part 2 courses require 194 days teaching experience (1 year) Specialist (or Part 3) courses require 388 days teaching experience (includes 1 year in subject area) ABQ Intermediate & Senior courses usually require university courses in the subject area you are registering in 7. How are AQ & ABQ courses offered? • • • Online (Trent only offers online) Blended (part in-class & part online) In-Class 8 . If I take an online course, do I need to be online at any given time? • • most online courses don't require you to be online at any given time there are due dates for assignments and module completion 9.
