For the Fourth Quarter, the Fourth grade will be doing State Reports. The students were so excited to pick out their state and to learn more about the different states within our country. The students will have to write a paper, create a PowerPoint, and a State Quilt highlighting all of the important aspects of their state. At the end of this unit, our Fourth Grade class will be taking a trip down to New Salem to learn more about the history of our state. Make sure to ask a fourth grade about their state! Talent Show Permission slips for the upcoming school Talent Show, which is scheduled for April 16, were sent home with students on Tuesday. They are due back right after the Easter break. If your child is interested in participating, please assist then with the form. Students will perform their talent for Mrs. Pemberton before they will be allowed to participate in the talent show. Contact Mrs. Pemberton at 367-2668 with any questions. Third Grade Announces… The third grade students have been working very hard these last few weeks. In math, we are learning all about graphs and data. We have learned about the different types of graphs, and are very excited to make our own graphs based on our own polls and data. We love graphing, but cannot wait to finally start learning all about fractions after spring break. In social studies we are wrapping up our community unit. We have learned so many valuable things about community workers and our own community. We have also wrapped up our Show and Tell War Unit. We have learned the valuable lesson of kindness and respect towards all from the wonderful characters of Adam, Joshua, Elliot, and Nelson. We are truly looking forward to these last few weeks of the fourth quarter with everyone. Third grade would also like to take this time to wish everyone a blessed Holy Week!! Parents Please remember that food/drinks from fast food restaurants is not allowed to be brought in for the students for lunch. This makes other students feel bad because they are not having it also. Thanks for your cooperation in this matter. Fifth Grade News The fifth grade has been busy learning about the Civil War and slavery. Did you know that slaves and abolitionists used quilts to send codes to prospective runaway slaves? There were twelve different quilts that told the steps to running away. Fifth grade has recreated these quilts and have hung them on the closet doors of the Junior High hallway. Come by and see what each one represented! Auction Updates This year’s St. Mary’s Auction is just a few weeks away. Thank you to all the families who have donated auction items, and also to those early birds who have already sent in their reservations! The acquisitions committee has also been hard at work contacting donors and gathering a great list of items. Auction Volunteers Needed The week before the auction there are a variety of tasks that we need volunteers to assist with. We need assistance with a mailing, to help stuff the packets, and help with set-up and decorating at Snyder Village. If you are available during the school day the week of April 19 and would like to help out, we can use your help! The biggest need for volunteers is on Friday, April 24, when we start setting up at Snyder Village and as we finish up on Saturday morning, April 25. If you have a couple of hours to spare that week and are willing to help, let us know. Auction Invitations Sent, RSVP by April 15 All school families hopefully received their auction invitation. They were mailed last week. If your family did not receive one, it was not intentional, and we are sorry! Email Susan Grebner at stmaryauction2015@gmail.com, and we will gladly send an invitation to you. You may also get all of the information online by going to the school website – www.stmfalcons.com – and click on the auction link. There, you can register and view all the great items we have so far! Auction Donations/Items Due April 3 Do you have an item to donate to this year’s St. Mary’s Dinner Auction? This annual event is a fundraiser with all proceeds benefitting St. Mary’s School. A wide variety of items contributes to the success of the auction. Do you have a special cookie recipe, cake, or other baked treat that is always popular with friends and family? Consider donating that to the auction! Maybe your family has a favorite shop or restaurant that you could donate a gift card or gift certificate from. Gift certificates for services like lawn care, mowing or snow removal have been popular in the past as well. The deadline for items to be accepted for the St. Mary’s School Dinner Auction fundraiser is Friday, April 3. (April 3 is the deadline for items to be included in the printed auction program. While items can be accepted after that time, the item and donor may not be listed in the program.) Questions? Contact Susan Grebner at stmaryauction2015@gmail.com or call (309) 251-1425.
