Dear fellow Lions, Lionesses and Leos,
“TOGETHER AS ONE”
We have past our half year mark recently. I am pleased to report that our
second new Lions club is almost ready to file their charter application.
Our District Project to raise funds to support Lions Foundation of Canada - Dog
Guide project is an outstanding success. At the dog guide dinner event on
February 6th, over 270 Lions and friends attended from over 31 clubs. 19 Judge
Brian Stevenson Fellowship were presented at the dinner event. 9 more are on
order and will be presented at the District Spring Conference in April, 2015.
$40,000 was raised up to this point and with more to come. I extend my heartfelt
appreciation to all of you for making this a most memorable occasion with so
many of our clubs contributing and showing what TRUE Lionism is all about. Our
District Project Chairperson PZC Clara Chow and her committee have to be
commended for giving 100% of their time and dedication to this project.
Our Spring Conference Committee working under the leadership of
Co-Chairpersons IPDG Peter Cheng and PDG Henry Ng are diligently putting
together an exciting and entertaining fun night for your enjoyment. President

1st Vice District Governor’s “Talk of the Lions”
January arrived to the sound of many Lions Xmas tree Chip-up operations and fundraisers in
various locations in Vancouver and our North Shore . I am always amazed by the solid
commitment of our Members working long, long hours. Many Clubs did well and my own
Tiddlycove Club enjoyed an excellent December / January period enabling it to donate $50,000
to the Lions Gate Hospital Foundation, a three-year commitment.
I attended both the 2nd Zone meetings of A-1 at Campbell Ave. and A-6 considerably further away at Pender
Harbour , Sunshine Coast . GLT Co-ordinator Grace joined me on that all-day ferry trip. All A-6 Clubs were
represented from Gibsons to Powell River and all read reports and showcased community projects. The A-1
meeting was also very well attended and I am always impressed by the enthusiasm, especially by our
younger Lions. It also gave me great pleasure to join our DG at the Chinatown Lioness Club dinner on Jan. 7
and promptly got invited to their Lunch fundraiser for the Canadian Liver Foundation at the Airport Marriott on
Feb. 1st.
One other intriguing weekend was the two-day DG-Elect Training sessions in Calgary , Alberta . I travelled
with DGE Don Wight (H), Leadership Chair Steve Somerset and PCC Allan Hunt via WestJet. PID Patricia
Hill also participated; what a motivational speaker she is. 12 future DGs from Manitoba west to B.C. and
south to California all joined in and the discussions were lively, (mostly) entertaining and included realistic
Action Plans and maximizing District Success. Can you believe the daytime temperature reached +15 C,
completely confusing all Albertans who are used to – 15 in January instead.
I was also invited through PCC Dennis Stevenson of the Alberta Region to take in an early Saturday morning
tour of *CLERC* - Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre in Calgary . What a beehive of activity:
unpacking, discarding or sorting, measuring each pair, labelling, repacking and then sending these precious
spectacles all over the world. Many volunteers from High School students to dedicated Lions and eyeglass
specialists work together. The measuring “VISI<*>NIX” machines (see photos) are incredibly accurate & fast
but do cost $6,500 each. I counted 8 of them, all in full use. You cannot believe the joy these recycled
glasses provide to many significantly sight-impaired recipients thousands of miles away.
Together with DG Jimmy & 2nd VDG Simon we all participated in the *lÉâ et|áx `x hÑ V{tÜ|àç VÉÇvxÜà* performed
by PDG Dickie Lam for the benefit of BC Children’s Hospital. It was most successful and very well attended.
Must say that Mr. Dickie looked splendid in his final multi-coloured suit. Should I borrow it for our 1st Cabinet
meeting at the end of August? Hummm . . …. A further GLT-GMT meeting was also convened in Kerrisdale
where all Members reviewed the various programs, Leadership courses and expectations for our District for
2015 - 2016.
January ended with an inspirational Rally in the Valley Lions meeting put together by the Chilliwack Mt.
Cheam Lions Club in Chilliwack on the 31st. I was very pleased that PZC Vince Moule from Pemberton joined
me arriving at my place at 7:30 a.m. to drive out to Chilliwack – talk about commitment. Our Grace Hwo also
attended; our speakers included ID Don Shove, PID Patti Hill, CC-Elect Al Beddows and others. The Mayor
of Chilliwack, Sharon Gaetz, was our Luncheon speaker. She delivered an impassioned speech about
Women in Leadership. It was a full, promising day of Lions success and future commitments. We ended with
a fine dinner prepared by the Mt. Cheam Lions at their Hall and Vinnie & I hustled home around eight arriving
via our much improved Highway 1 & Port Mann Bridge in West Van in one hour and ten minutes. That is a
vast improvement over the previous years of gridlock !
Yours in Service & Fellowship,
Eric R. – 1st VDG

Dear Club Officer,
LCI is now offering an electronic payment option for clubs in Canada. The electronic payment will
be issued by a Pre-Authorized ACH Debit, which is an electronic bank to bank method of payment.
Please review the Pre-Authorized Debit Form, and contact us if you are interested in sending an
electronic payment to pay your club’s balance. You must first fill out the form, and send it to us in a
secure method, to ensure your club’s banking information is protected. You may send it to us via fax
or email. After you are ready to approve the ACH payment, contact us by fax or email, and advise
the amount. We will take care of the processing of the payment on your behalf, by debiting your
club’s bank account.
Thank you for considering this payment option for your club.
