From the house of the LORD, we bless you. Third and Kilgore Church of Christ P. O. Box 450 Portales, NM 88130 RETURN SERVICE REQUESTED Regular Postage Into His Harvest He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into His harvest field.” Luke 10:2 Year in Review Paul Smith I know that there are a few more weeks left in the semester, but by the time I get to see you again in this space our semester, and academic year, will be over. So I wanted to take this time to say “thank you” to some very special people. I apologize for not being able to mention everyone by name, but many of you serve “behind the scenes” and so, although I am well aware of what you do for the Student Center, I am not always aware of the specific individual who does each task. First, thank-you to everyone who has had a part in our Tuesday night suppers. We average in the mid-sixties each Tuesday, and on occasion have inched into serving over eighty. The response from the students has been overwhelming – they really do appreciate our efforts to provide them with healthy, well-rounded meals. The opinion that we serve the best meal in Portales is shared by more than just a few students. Next, I have to say a very special thank-you to the wonderful bakers who keep Grandma’s Cookie Jar filled up. This spring I have two classes that meet in the Student Center, and David has one, so the cookies have flown out of the jar! It is interesting at the beginning of the semester the students are hesitant to indulge – they are not too sure about a class where the instructor provides cookies. But by the end of the semester the cookie table is the first stop on the way into the classroom. So, whether you are actually a “Grandma” or not, thank you for your wonderful and tasty donations! comes in and helps us when she can, and her help is always so much appreciated. A number of Life Groups have prepared and served the Tuesday Night suppers this past year, and for your help we are all so greatly indebted. I want to close with an anecdote to let you know that the work you do with the Student Center is important. This past semester I was visiting with one of David’s students. She told me that she had come to one of our Tuesday night suppers in the fall, and heard me talk about our religion courses. She needed an additional elective, and saw David’s class on Biblical Relationships. She signed up for the course, and through David’s teaching has been introduced to many lasting principles of Christian relationships. She would not have been interested had it not been for the suppers. Please know that your efforts, no matter how small, are bringing results in the kingdom. Three very special ladies do extra duty, and they deserve extra special attention. Sherrye Burleson bakes or otherwise prepares our desserts for almost every Tuesday night supper. This means she is up at the Student Center most every Sunday afternoon and Monday night preparing for the following Tuesday. She does not receive the thanks she deserves. This year we have a new “recruit” in Mary Taylor, and she has been a true angel to come in and help wherever she is needed. Also, Bernadette Garcia Life Groups meet on the first three Sundays of each month. Information is on the Life Group table in the foyer. Join a group today!
