Down. We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic, innovative staff who are committed to
providing the very best educational experience for our pupils. Our boys and girls come
from all religious, ethnic and social backgrounds around Holywood and throughout the
North Down and Greater Belfast areas.
The central aim of the college is to develop and promote the full potential of each child,
academically, socially and morally in a challenging but supportive environment, in full
partnership with home and the wider community. Children of all abilities are welcome
and are given every opportunity to progress academically. The quality of teaching and
learning is high and all pupils are provided with challenge and support in their learning.
As an integrated school, Priory is committed to:
 Making learning relevant, stimulating and challenging for every pupil;
 High standards of achievement and effort for everyone in the college;
 Encouraging respect in order to build positive relationships within and beyond the
college
community;
 Working together to be a caring community;
 Exploring, understanding and respecting diversity;
 Promoting a positive image in our wider community.
LEARNING AND TEACHING
As an integrated college, Priory welcomes boys and girls of all abilities and aptitudes,
from the most academically confident to those who struggle academically. As such,
effective teaching here requires classroom practitioners to be conversant with a wide
range of differentiated teaching strategies, aimed at supporting all learners in the
classroom. There is a strong emphasis on active learning, the development of pupils’
thinking skills & personal capabilities and the use of technology to stimulate and
enhance learning. Assessment for Learning is widely used throughout the school to
enable pupils see the next steps in their learning. All pupils are tracked throughout
Years 8 – 12 in order to ensure under / low achievement is addressed promptly and
effectively.

PASTORAL CARE
Priory Integrated College is a caring and supportive learning community. The school
has an extensive Pastoral Care System which ensures that each pupil is known as an
individual. All pupils are supported throughout their time at Priory by teachers with
specific pastoral responsibilities.
In addition counselling is available to pupils
experiencing particular problems. Sixth Form pupils act as mentors to Year 8 Form
Classes and work with pupils in Junior School to develop reading and literacy skills. The
school places a strong emphasis on good behaviour and sensible conduct. Parents are
given a copy of the school’s discipline policy and are expected to support its aims.
There is a strong emphasis on the wearing of full school uniform as described in the
Guide to Parents.
CURRICULUM
Pupils follow the Northern Ireland Revised Curriculum at Key Stage 3. Pupils are
banded according to their level of confidence in literacy and numeracy, in order to
ensure that every child is stretched, supported and challenged to take the next step in
their learning. Additional time for the development of literacy skills is built into pupils’
timetables according to their needs, and additional learning support is provided by the
Special Educational Needs team where appropriate.
At Key Stage 4 pupils study a core curriculum of English, Maths, Science, Religious
Education, Physical Education and Learning for Life and Work. They must choose 4
additional subjects from a range of general and applied subjects. In addition, several
fully accredited vocational qualifications are offered by other training providers and
South Eastern Regional College.
A range of Applied and General Qualifications, including A Levels and BTEC Level 3
