Media Advisory: Shooting Investigation
At approximately 12:51 a.m. this morning, deputies were dispatched to the Americas Best Value Inn, 7413 W. Newberry
Road, Gainesville. They were responding to calls that a shooting had taken place at the location. Alachua County Fire
Rescue personnel were also dispatched.
The first units on scene located a subject outside of room 325. Upon further investigation, the subject was determined
to be deceased. The other person involved in the shooting was located inside room 325 and surrendered to deputies.
The investigation into the circumstances that led up to the shooting is ongoing.
The victim has been identified as 36 year-old Van S. Gourdine of Gainesville.
