SCHOOL DESIGNS CUSTOM COVER:
Please complete the check list, sign below and send along with your artwork. If anything does not comply
with the list below, your artwork will be sent back for revisions which will slow down the production
process.
DIGITAL ARTWORK:
You must answer YES to all of the following.
c Is your file saved as a: jpeg, tiff, pdf, eps, psd(Photoshop), ai(Illustrator), InDesign, or Microsoft Word?
No other file types will be excepted.
c Is your file 300 dpi resolution?
c Are your files the correct sizes with the correct margins? (See attached guidelines)
c There are no images taken from the internet, unless they have been purchased. Images taken from the
internet are not usable as they are copyright protected and the quality is too low to be used for printing.
c We have copyright or permission to use any of the images provided. Schoolhouse Publications Inc. will
not be held responsible for any images used.
c Are your fonts included with the files?
HARDCOPY ARTWORK:
You must answer YES to all of the following.
c Is your artwork the correct size on an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper? (See attached guidelines)
c Artwork is not folded or creased and is packaged correctly so that it will not be damaged or wrinkled in
the mail.
c There are no images taken from the internet, unless they have been purchased. Images taken from the
internet are not usable as they are copyright protected and the quality is too low to be used for printing.
c We have copyright or permission to use any of the images provided. Schoolhouse Publications Inc. will
not be held responsible for any images used.
No changes can be made to the artwork, both digital and hardcopy, by Schoolhouse Publications Inc. That
includes adding text, changing the layout, size, colors, fonts, or removing anything from the artwork.

• When the cover design is ready the school contact will be notified to go online and proof the cover.
• You will be given a password to enter the restricted area of our website in order to view the
completed design and approve or request revisions.
• Please be advised that we cannot go to print without your approval. Failure to do so in a
timely manner will cause delays in the printing process and will delay delivery.
• Name, email address and home phone number of a contact person must be supplied to ensure
the proofing process goes smoothly.

CONTENT AREA
Document should be 5.25 x 8.25 (20.955 x 13.335 cm). There must be no content outside of the content area, therefore
leaving a 0.25 inch (0.635 cm) white border around each edge.
Selling Tidbits
1. You will need to decide how many cookbooks to order and how you are going to collect the
money. Once you have your customized order form, send one home with each student. We
suggest customers prepay and then you can get a good idea of how many to order.
Once order forms are returned add on a few more copies to account for “stragglers”. When
your supply is getting low you can always order more at the same price (30 copies
minimum for reorders). That way you won’t be left with unsold product.
2. You will also need to decide beforehand how you will distribute the pre-ordered
cookbooks. Will the students take them home or will you mail them? If mailing be sure to
include the cost of the envelope and shipping in the cost of the book.
3. Something to consider: once your cookbook is distributed to the original buyers, others
will want to order. We suggest putting an order form as the last page of the cookbook with
the school address and email information. The cost displayed on this sheet should include
an additional cost for shipping/handling and that the buyer must include a cheque or
money order.
4. Get everyone to type their own recipes and email them to you (written recipes not good as
handwriting too often illegible). Once you receive the recipes you can do the cut and paste
method into the Word template we provide. Make sure you make the titles and text
uniform throughout the book for a more professional look.( Or, you can transfer the
recipes to any program you prefer to use as long as you email your completed file in PDF
format.)
5. Make sure the contributors add their names so they get credit for the recipe. It is also a
good idea to have them include personal tips and/or comments on the recipe.
6. If there are ethnic recipes with unfamiliar ingredients, encourage contributors to suggest
where these ingredients may be purchased locally.
7. You may include advertisements from local businesses if you wish to help defray the cost
of the cookbook. Just ask them for a business card. These can be scanned in and placed in
the cookbook. Business cards are perfect because they have all the address info etc. in
concise format. You may also include student drawings and/or photographs if you wish.
8. Some local businesses might offer to put a sample copy on their counter for you with your
contact info. Make sure you write SAMPLE in big letters and extra order forms that they
can take away with them so the business doesn’t have to get involved in collecting the
money.

Final Checklist

Schoolhouse.
o We will customize your order form and email you the final copy so
you can get your cookbook started!
o We have order form options for email or handwritten submissions.
Print and distribute your order form and wait for the recipes to roll in!
While you are waiting for the recipes, you can start to work on your cover
design. See our cover design guidelines or contact us about creating a
cover for you!
Visit the Schoolhouse Publications website and download the cookbook
template (Word File)
Input your recipes into the template and format them however you wish.
View our font sample suggestions for ideas
o Remember to save your file as you go
o If you are having any formatting questions, please do not hesitate to
contact us!
Create your own category divider sheets with pictures from your
school/classroom, or use clipart/photos from the web (don't forget to
check for copyright permission!)
o Remember these count towards your page count, but make the
cookbook easier to navigate.
o Photos will appear in black and white, but see our pricing guide for
colour pages
After all the recipes have arrived, finalize your word file and proof, proof,
proof!! Perhaps send it to a couple people to make sure you catch any
mistakes ☺
Convert your final product to a PDF and email it to
planners@schoolhousepublications.com
o If you are not able to convert your file, please email the word file and
we will convert it at no extra charge.
Once we have your cover and pages, we will confirm quantities and go to
print!
