Getting Started !
Step 1: Gathering the recipes
Firstly, decide where and how you are going to get the recipes.
a. A good way is by printing out the letter for parents, which includes a recipe
sheet and is available online. Give them to your children to take home and
complete as homework – with the help of their Mum, Dad, Granny….
b. The absolutely best way is by doing the above but ask those with an internet
connection to use the “Parent Access Area” - a specially designed website
linked to the main one, allowing parents & kids to type in their recipes on their
home computers. This will save you lots of time later, you’ll just need to check
them over to make sure they’re suitable. Read more on page 11.
c. Otherwise it could be done in school, in a home economics, cookery class
or IT class. Maybe you could ask children to choose their favourite from a list
of healthy recipes you have already thought up.
In any case each child should have his/her own recipe.
To make the book look great you can personalise each page by including a photo
of the children next to their recipe. The photo will have to be taken by a digital
camera or you will have to scan a paper version. New, we have enclosed with your
sample a chef’s hat which will make the children’s photo fun and original. Have fun,
use it!!
If you would rather, you can choose an illustration from the many we have available
online. Or indeed have a mix of the two.

The Web Part
Step 2: Logging in
Now, although this part of the project might seem daunting, I can assure
you it’s not complicated. This website was designed so that my dear old Nan
would be capable of using it; and if she can, anyone can!
Any old computer will do as long as it’s connected to the internet, however
we recommend that you do not add recipes via a tablet or smart phone.
Once you are on our internet page (www.thecookbookinitiative.com)
click on the click to register button, in the menu on the right of the page.
You will be asked a few basic details. Once you are registered we
will send you an email confirming your username and password made of
your customer number and your starter pack number. This log-in details will
be valid within 12 to 24 hours.
If you lose the email and need reminding of any of these details please call us on:
Or email us at:
0845-609-0206.

orders you have made. Of course as this is your first time there won’t be any such
records.

- or you can leave it blank
You can see the list of your recipes

Armed with all your recipes you are now ready to type them up.
This is the moment when you’ll be very happy if the Parent Access Area has been used.
Even if just a few parents have used it you’ll save time - so it is definitely worthwhile
motivating people to try it out (see page 11).
You can, in any case, call upon the help of a few volunteers. Older school children are
normally more than happy to help you in this regard – given suitable supervision is
provided. More than one person can use the site so the typing can be shared out- as
long as you are not logged in at the same time.
But remember, you can take a pause from the process at any time you wish. Your work
will be saved automatically so you can go back to it later that day, week or even
month. If you do plan to be away from it for a while please let us know.
Let’s go through each stage of the process
A - Create a recipe page
Each time you want to create a new recipe page, click on this button :

PASTRY
Parent Access Area
This option is fantastic – make sure you try it out.
It gets everyone involved in the project and simultaneously cuts down on
the amount of typing you’ll do.
The Parent Access Area is a separate website linked to the main one and allows parents to
type in their recipes at home, quickly and simply, on their personal computers. They do not,
however, have access to the main site or to your account.
How to go about it:
On the email you receive after registering we’ll give you the address of the Parent Access
Area website and an access code.
Using the example letter (downloadable on the site) advise parents about the special
website (and access code) and ask for those parents with internet access to use the site
to add their recipe. It’s easy and straightforward and kids will love it.
For parents without internet connection they can complete their recipe on the other half
of the Letter for Parents with a trusty pen and hand it in to you to put on the web on their
behalf.
It is up to you as the organiser to tell parents how many recipes they can add
(i.e. whether it is just one per family or two or more) and to also set a deadline.
Everytime a recipe is added online by a parent it will appear in your list of recipes on the
main website with a blue triangle in front – like an email appearing in your inbox.
All you need do is check it is suitable and amend if necessary.
You have control over all the recipes so you can add, edit, or delete as you see fit.

On the next page we ask you to complete your
delivery and invoice details.
Then click on the send my order button.

to make any more amendments to your cookbook
so please be sure to do one final check.
If, at any stage, you have any queries please contact
us and we’ll happily guide you through the process.

Step 6: Payment
We advise you to get as many orders as you can from
parents and others in your community before you send
us your main order. This way you will cover all the costs
before we send you the invoice.
We recommend a selling price of £8.50 but the final
decision is, of course, yours.
Please note that the minimum number of copies we
can sell at any one time is 50, and that the minimum
numbers
of recipes you need to include is 36 and 120 max.
It’s a good idea to order a few extra to sell at your
school fairs. Maybe the local newsagents, Post Office
or bookshop would be interested in having a few
copies to sell too.
Once we have received your order we will despatch
the books to you within 4 weeks. In the meantime
please forward us your cheque at the following address
23 King Street,Cambridge CB1 1AH, it will be cashed
30 days after delivery, allowing you to generate sales
prior to its remittance.
