an Amelia Island Plantation Community Association Publication
Amelia Island Plantation is for the birds!
New signs to be installed at
each of the Amelia Island Plantation Community Association’s
three beach access points are
part of the Community’s ongoing
initiative to encourage beachgoers to share the beach with
the many Florida shorebirds and
seabirds that nest on the open
beach.
The signs, provided by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conserva-
tion Commission (FWC)
and approved by the Architectural Review Board,
remind beach-goers to
avoid going in nesting areas that are protected
with signs and that disturbing nesting birds can prevent
them from caring for their young,
leaving them vulnerable to the
hot sun and to predators.

plan hatched by AIPCA’s volunteer “Bluebird
Patrol” to provide safe havens where bluebirds can
nest is working! Community residents and avid
nature lovers Jean Middleton and Candace Bridgewater
shared this photo of bluebird chicks which hatched in April in
one of the 14 bluebird boxes now strategically placed around
the Community. This ongoing project is a cooperative effort by
these dedicated volunteers, the AIPCA, the Omni Resort and
its golf course managers. Thanks to all involved for supporting
this threatened species.
