For this project, some students took a vow of silence for 24 hours to bring awareness to lost voices of children around the world. In addition to vowing their silence, six AHHS students raised $493.00 to support children across the world. This donation will help provide clean water, educational materials, food, and animals to increase a child's quality of life. For more information feel free to visit: http://www.freethechildren.com/ or check out ABC on August 21st at 7:00 to view the "We Day" celebration these students took part in! Thank you to all who donated! Way to go Giants!" The fifth graders and elementary student council officers attended We Day Illinois on April 30. The event was hosted by Free the Children and the focus was making a change from Me to We. The students enjoyed this engaging program and were honored to be included in the event in recognition of their hard work on past and current service learning projects. County Accounting Champs!! Alden-Hebron Accounting I and II classes competed in the McHenry County Accounting Bowl on April 24, 2015 at McHenry County College. The completion had over 185 students and 10 schools throughout the county and our teams placed first! Individual winners in Accounting I were Trevor Redlin who placed third, Alec O’Halleran placed 7th and Marshal Glenn placed 10th. Cody Nelson placed first in Accounting II and was awarded a $100. Scholarship at MCC. Congratulations! 2 The 5th grade service learning 5K walk/run was a complete success! The 5th graders would like to thank all those who graciously donated and participated in the walk/run. We exceed our goal by raising over $1,400! All money will be donated to the Alexander Leigh Center for Autism! Way to go Little Giants! As part of this project the service learners planned a meet and greet with students from the Alexander Leigh Center for Autism on May 7th. The afternoon was filled with music, games, entertainment, and some fun on the playground with their new friends. The group researched autism and interviewed professionals from McHenry County Options and Advocacy. Based on their research they wrote a book called Al's Scientific Sensation which can be viewed at https://www.storyjumper.com/book/index/19727538/Al-s-Scientific-Sensation 3 I want to start this letter with a huge congratulations going out to all our spring sport athletes and coaches. The track team had some very good meets and numerous personal best marks. Some school records are very close to being broken, so I hope everyone work’s a little harder going into next season and gets their name up on that school record board. The softball and baseball teams had two of the best seasons in school history. The Softball team won the NAC Conference Championship and the baseball team tied the school record for most wins in a season with a 22-10-1 record. Both teams advanced to the Regional Championship game but both feel just a little bit short. The girls lost a though game to Durand 2-1 and the boys lost to Hinkley Big Rock 11-8. I know all of you are a little disappointed with how things ended but you should all be very proud of the seasons you had!! Keep working hard to take the next step to bringing home that Regional!! At the spring sports banquet the following awards were presented: The Most Valuable Girls Track player went to Tally Lalor, Coaches Award went to Hannah Hough. The Most Valuable Boys Track player went to Josh Johnson, Most Improved went to Mason Mindham and Austin Stauss received the Coaches Award. For baseball the MVP went to Cody Nelson and David Talbert received the Most Improved Player Award. Justin Steele won Rookie of The Year Honors and Matt Winter received the Coaches Award. 4 Year Awards went to Jake Bohl, Marshal Glenn, Cody Nelson, Alec O’Halleran, David Talbert and Matt Winter. For softball Kasandra Clauss and Zoee Lagerhausen were named Co-MVP’s. Cheyennah Knoll and Tiffany Damato were named Co-MIP’s. Katie Rosio won Rookie of The Year Honors and Hannah Behrens and Emily Cunningham were honored with the Coaches Award. 4 Year Awards went to Hannah Behrens and Madi Brown. 1st Team All-Conference Awards went to Cody Nelson and Matt Winters for Baseball . We will be breaking ground for the light pole foundations within two to three weeks!! Yes that’s right, there will finally be permanent lights on Alden-Hebron’s Football Field by the beginning of the 2015 season. We have been working on this project for about three years now and with the help and donations from a lot of GREAT PEOPLE it is about to become something our school and community will have for many years in the future. This project along with “PHASE II the Softball Field” will all be funded by the Booster Club/12th Man Club Fundraisers. Please come out and support Giant Fest on June 27th, The 12th Man Club Golf Outing on Aug.16th and the Football Teams Benching for Bucks that they will be doing this summer. Remember both of these projects are being paid for with donated funds so we need everyone’s help and support. If you would like to donate to the project or would like to help out in any way please give me a call at 815-648-1662 or e-mail me at jlalor@alden-hebron.org I would also like to give a shout out to all my past players, some of you will have children playing on this field some day and “Old Coach” could use your help finishing this project up. Remember what I always tried to tell you guys?? “Leave it in better shape, then what it was when you got here” That is exactly what we are doing and thank you to everyone that has jumped onboard and helped so far!!
