Guardian Angel Gazette Serving serious and terminally ill children and their families in Louisiana From the Founder/President’s Desk St. Martin’s Episcopal School in Metairie hosted our annual Angels’ Place Spring Picnic again this year. We received very positive feedback from the families on the gym location so we decided to have it in the gym again this year. With this crazy weather in our area, it was the wisest thing to do. Our thanks and gratitude to our host, St. Martin’s Episcopal School for hosting, Anita Gilford, RN, MSN Gibbs Construction for the use of their great BBQ grill, Kiwanis Club of New Orleans, KiFounder Executive Director wanis Club of Moisant and the Kiwanis Club 3rd District for our delicious charcoal grilled hamburgers, hot dogs, cookies, chips and beverages, Our thanks to St. Matthew the Apostle School, City of New Orleans Registrar of Voters, Integrity Carpet, and Thrivent Financial. Thank you to our Angels’ Place volunteers, Herb and Nelly Bergeron, for manning registration, Jerry Forstater, Photographer, JD Photo and Video, who volunteered his time and talents to take the photographs at our picnic. A special thanks to Phil Warren – Maintenance Director, Sean McGovern – Maintenance Staff, to set up the tables and chairs and Andrew Harris – Maintenance Staff who worked the event and made sure everything ran as smooth as possible—and it did! Great job, thanks Andrew. This year Angels’ Place raffled off some terrific Door Prizes including a dinner for two compliments of Andrea’s Italian Restaurant for our families, a special drawing, for our parents only, of a hotel week-end get-away compliments of the St. Charles Inn in New Orleans and some gift cards for the kids. We want to thank our donors, Andrea’s Italian Restaurant and the St. Charles Inn for donating these wonderful prizes to our Spring Picnic. By the way, we had our volunteer luncheon at Andrea’s this past year and the food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. Also, Mary Kantlehner, our children’s program manager, spent a weekend at the St. Charles Inn in the past and had a marvelous time. So if anyone is looking for a get away or a delicious meal please keep these two venues in mind. Not only are they excellent dining and vacation venues, but they give back to their community as well. Adventure Quest Laser Tag donated passes to their facility and City Park donated Putt Putt passes. We all know how much the kids and adults alike love Laser Tag and Putt Putt. Thank you so much Adventure Quest and City Park for making our Spring Picnic an even bigger success and thank you for your community spirit. The winners of the St. Charles Inn have four children including a new baby so we are SURE they will enjoy the get-away! Thank you Carters Children Store in Elmwood Park Shopping Center for donating lots of pajamas for our children. The parents were very excited to get them. A special thanks to Kenner Central Lions Club for adopting two families at Easter. You are such a blessing. Thank you, Robbie Schexnayder, for the Zhu Zhu Pet game. My deepest gratitude to all our dedicated donors and volunteers who participate every year in our Spring Picnic and make it so successful and such great fun! We could not have the Spring Picnic for our families without you. Our sincere gratitude can never be adequately expressed. Don’t forget check us out on Facebook where all the great pictures from our Spring Picnic await you! February/ March 2015 Please keep all our families in your thoughts and prayers as they go through their journey towards healing. Families worry even when their child is better or in remission. Every cold, every routine scan, any time there’s any health issue brings fear. Their children are more vulnerable than most. Keep the parents who have to make difficult decisions about treatment options, about life and death decisions in your Mary Kantlehner prayers. And, pray for those who have lost a Children’s Program child and are in such tremendous pain. Director You may remember the story of Sierra , who had a kidney transplant last year. Her mom, Cassandra called me a few days ago to let us know how well Sierra is doing and the joy they feel when they see her ride her bike and play with her friends. They are so thankful that a donor was found to save her life. Please consider carrying a donor card with you. Remember you can help our children by donating blood or organs. Call the office and we can give you names of children in need. Congratulations to several of our families who have had new babies in the past few weeks. Many thanks to everyone who made our Spring Picnic so much fun. The volunteers from Cabrini were a great help. Thanks, Molly Nides, Angelina Hull, Samantha Deupree, Hannah Susslin & Morgan Winstead for keeping those Zhu Zhu Pets running, amongst other things. We begin collecting school supplies for our kids soon. Thanks to Susan Guidry and all the fine young ladies of St. Matthew the Apostle School. You helped make our picnic a success.
