2015 Artists’ Market Application Fee: $60 Artscape, the largest FREE arts festival in America draws 350,000 visitors who spent over $9.25 million with the festival’s exhibitors and vendors. The 34th annual Artscape will run July 17-19, 2015. Artscape is now accepting submissions for the Artists’ Market section of the festival. The Artists’ Market highlights artists who create and execute original, professional quality work. In order to be considered for an Artists’ Market space, all work displayed MUST be produced by the exhibiting artist or collaboration, and MUST be consistent with the images submitted. Artist may only exhibit art in the category in which they were accepted into the Artists’ Market. The Artists’ Market at Artscape is a juried show. A panel of professionals in the in the fields of craft, fine art, fashion and design will score each applicant’s submitted photographs and description of materials/technique. The Artscape jury process is blind (jurors do not see artists’ names, hometowns or histories of participating in Artscape). The panel of jurors for the Artists’ Market changes each year. Jury scores are final. Festival Staff utilize jury scores to select Artists’ Market participants from each discipline, to create a fair, balanced and dynamic show. Artists’ Market Exhibitor Packages begin at $700 (for 10’x10’x7’space) and include: Festival provided tent with sidewall, all spaces have a 10’x10’ footprint (double, tall and end of group spaces are available for an additional fee - there are no “stand alone” spaces). Pop up tent additions are prohibited. Deadline to Apply: March 31, 2015 The Artists’ Market highlights artists who create and execute original, professional quality work. Categories include: 2-D MIXED MEDIA - Two dimensional, wall hung artwork using the combination of two or more distinct media in a collage-type manner. This category is not to be used if artwork consists of only one medium even if uniquely framed. 3-D MIXED MEDIA - Original work of three dimensions which incorporates the union of three or more media or physical materials. Use this category ONLY if work cannot be classified under another category. CLAY - Original sculptural, decorative, or functional work in which the primary material used is clay. No machine made or mass produced items. All artwork must be unique to the artist. DRAWING / GRAPHICS / PRINTMAKING - Original works made with pen, pencil, color pencil, charcoal or traditional printmaking techniques, including etching, engraving, lithography, serigraphy, or woodcuts. Combination techniques / collages are also included. Original prints must be signed and numbered. Any work that is produced by any mechanical means, i.e., giclees, photo-offset, or any other reproduction technique must be labeled a “Reproduction”. FIBER / LEATHER - Original work created from fibers or leather, including basketry, handmade paper, weavings, and other artistic, fabric-based work. All work must be designed and sewn by the artist. No commercial, mass produced items permitted. GLASS - Original sculptural or decorative work created in glass. No molds or other forms of mass production permitted. All work must be unique to the artist. JEWELRY - Original jewelry made from precious and non-precious metals, gemstones, enamel, glass, fiber, clay or other materials. No buy/sell, kit or costume jewelry, or mass produced items. Jewelry may be exhibited ONLY if accepted under the jewelry category. METAL - Original sculptural or decorative items created in metal. May be painted or unpainted. No commercial or volume production items. All work must be unique to the artist. PAINTING - OIL / ACRYLIC - Original work created using oil / acrylic or similar materials on canvas, paper, or board. Combination techniques / collages of these materials are also included. Any painting that is produced by any mechanical means, i.e., giclees, photo-offset, or any other reproduction technique must be labeled a “Reproduction”. PAINTING - WATERCOLOR / PASTEL - Original work created using watercolor / pastel or similar materials on canvas, paper, or board. Combination techniques / collages of these materials are also included. Any painting that is produced by any mechanical means, i.e., giclees, photo-offset, or any other reproduction technique must be labeled a “Reproduction”. PHOTOGRAPHY / DIGITAL ART Original artwork created by the artist / photographer utilizing an SLR or Digital camera, or computer-generated image, and printed with either traditional darkroom, ink-jet, or laser printing technologies. No commercial photography. Original prints must be signed and numbered. Any photograph that is produced by any mechanical means, i.e., giclees, photo-offset, or any other reproduction technique must be labeled a “Reproduction”. WEARABLE ART / FASHION - Original work created from fibers or leather, weavings, and other artistic, fabricbased work, designed to be worn as apparel. All work must be designed and sewn by the artist. No commercial, mass produced items permitted. WOOD - Original sculptural or decorative work made primarily from wood. Includes hand tooled, carved or machine worked items, with either natural or painted finish. No commercial or volume production items. OTHER – Select this category if your work does not fall into the categories listed above. Be prepared to provide a detailed description, and possible sample/example of your work if required. All work must be original and of professional quality. Artists’ Market prohibits the following: Multiple employee studios engaged in production work are not eligible to participate. Absolutely no buy-sell. No merchandise such as coffee cups, notecards, calendars, or other items mass produced from an original piece of artwork will be permitted. Items made using commercial molds or patterns and hobby crafts are ineligible. Jury Process – A panel of professionals in the in the fields of craft, fine art, fashion and design will score each applicant’s submitted photographs and description of materials/technique. Jury scores are final. Based on the score between 1 and 10, applicants in each discipline will be placed into one of three categories: accepted, not accepted and waitlist. Festival Staff utilize jury scores to select Artists’ Market participants from each discipline, to create a fair, balanced and dynamic show. Artists are pulled from the waitlist based on space availability, score in their discipline and the vision of Artscape organizers for a successful Artists’ Market. Inclusion in the Artists’ Market, or any section of Artscape 2014, ultimately is at the discretion of Festival Staff. Jury Process: April 5-11, 2015 Notification of Application Status: week of May 11, 2015 Exhibitor Rules: Artists violating the rules of this show or who fail to cooperate with the Festival Staff will not be permitted to exhibit. The show will be monitored for misrepresentation and we reserve the right to remove any questionable, non-approved artwork from the show. No Refunds: refunds for exhibitor fees, equipment fees, etc. are not issued. Stand alone / pop-up tents are prohibited. Unauthorized / unapproved use of any festival space is prohibited. Exhibitor set-up is confined to the purchased tent footprint. Storage areas located behind or outside the tent footprint is prohibited. No sound systems in tents. Artists’ Market artists may only exhibit and sell their own original artwork. Artists may share space with another artist or apply as a collective. All artists work must be represented on the application. Participants agree that Artscape shall have the right to reproduce digital images or the reproductions of selected artwork for publicity or marketing purposes. Exhibitors, artists and/or collectives may not re-sell, share with an unaccepted artist or sub-let any portion of their space. Any violation of these stipulations by exhibitors will result in expulsion from the festival, without fee refund. Exhibitors must keep their space open all hours of the festival weekend, rain or shine. By submitting an application, you agree to and accept all festival terms and conditions. This statement may be read to the jurors. 4. Are you applying as an Emerging Artist? The Emerging Artist Program helps artists produce their first booth in an outdoor show. The program provides a tent and booth space in the Artists Market at no charge. Entry is open to any artist who has never done an outdoor show and lives within the Greater Baltimore Metro Area. You may apply for both the Emerging Artist Program and the general Artists’ Market. Emerging Artists are selected first. 5. Please provide a brief statement for the jury. The Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts also produces the Baltimore Book Festival, held along the waterfront in Baltimore’s Inner Harbor, and is 100% free and open to the public. The 20th Annual Baltimore Book Festival will be September 25-27, 2015, is the premier celebration of literary arts in the mid-Atlantic region. In 2014, BBF hosted 100,000+ visitors. Please note that 80% of materials displayed, sold and distributed must be related to the literary arts.
