Reconstruction:
Kirby to Shepherd
Construction on
Westheimer has been
hampered by rain as of
late. Frequent rain and
several severe rain
events over the past
week has made most
construction activities difficult.
After
Over the past week, however, crews were able to complete the
storm sewer connection at Shepherd that will tie Upper Kirby
storm improvements on Westheimer into City of Houston
storm improvements on Shepherd. Crews had a brief window
to make this connection in coordination with the Shepherd
contractor and skipped a small section in order to get the work
done. This week, crews will complete the tie in between Persa
and Peckham completing the main trunk line. New inlets and
inlet leads remain to be placed before this is a fully functioning
system, but flood relief is well within sight.

information.
Overlapping concrete work between Westgate and Dickey has
again been stalled by weather, however, crews anticipate
framing for concrete this week. Excavation and concrete
preparation activities will also be underway this week between
Kingston and Greenbriar. The goal is still to open the roadway
to new pavement between Kingston and Dickey early in May
with the entire north side of the roadway opened back to traffic
in June.
Bissonnet Reconstruction: Kirby to Buffalo Speedway
Bissonnet duct bank construction has been completed and the
project is currently in a down phase while utility companies
work to transfer services to the new underground facilities. one
telecommunications company is redesigning some of their
services, so it is expected that roadway reconstruction will
likely not begin for several months.
Ultimately Bissonnet will be completely reconstructed with
new storm sewer improvements, streetscape amenities and
new concrete, however, work will not begin on the complete
reconstruction until all of the telecommunications providers
have moved their services to the new underground duct banks
and the overhead poles have been removed. While this process
can be completed in as few as 45 days, one
telecommunications company needs to redesign some of their
services, so it is expected that roadway reconstruction will
likely not begin for four to six months. Look for updates as
this work progresses.

Levy Park Renovation
Levy Park
The renovation of Levy Park
is scheduled to begin shortly.
Burton Construction has been
selected as the contractor for
the park renovation and
expects to begin construction in the next few weeks.
Due to the high use of the existing park by dogs and dog
owners, the Upper Kirby District has constructed a temporary
dog park that will remain open while the permanent facility is
under construction.
Once construction begins it is estimated that work will take up
to 12 months to complete. Redevelopment of the park will
feature curated, year-round
programming, native
landscaping and botanical
experiences, one of a kind
children's play, interactive
water features, a performance
pavilion, an event lawn, a
community garden and dog park.
