The Payload Asia Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony will be held in Singapore in 15 October 2015.
Organised by Payload Asia and supported by Logistics Insight Asia, the annual Awards is a celebration
of excellence, highlighting the air cargo supply chain companies that have excelled in the industry
– those that have risen above the challenges through market adeptness, innovative products or
superior strategy – to make a positive impact on the market and in their own business. This year’s
award follows the innovative step taken last year by Payload Asia in setting the bar even higher for
air cargo industry awards by, for the first time in the industry’s history, offering two unique but
equally valid views of excellence.
In the vein of the entertainment industry’s People’s Choice Awards and the Academy Awards, we
present the Customer Choice Awards and the Industry Choice Awards – the first determined by
popular online voting and the second through ranking by an esteemed industry panel.
“With our first awards programme in the magazine’s nearly three-decades of history in 2012, we
set a very high standard for transparency and legitimacy in the air cargo awards field,” said Payload
Asia editor, Donald Urquhart. “This year’s awards programme will continue with the innovative
dual-track programme successfully introduced last year. That it met with such an overwhelmingly
positive response indicates we are clearly on the right track.”
“With tighter, more specific eligibility requirements and voting criteria the Payload Asia Awards will
continue to offer the most salient and legitimate awards in the industry and this will only further
distance our awards from other more commercially oriented awards programmes in the industry,”
said Urquhart.
Established in 1984, Payload Asia continues to be the respected voice of the air freight industry,
offering unparalleled news and analysis of industry developments and trends from across the globe
with a keen focus on the Asia-Pacific and India-Middle East regions.
Process
Nomination and Voting
The Payload Asia Awards 2015 recognises excellence
in two separate but complementary methods by
awarding winners through a dual-track awards
programme comprised of: Customer Choice Awards
and Industry Choice Awards.
The entire nomination, voting and judging process will be divided
into the following phases:
Nomination Period: 20 April – 05 June 2015
Companies wishing to participate in this event will be nominated by its customers, business partners, Payload
Asia readers, or sign up as self-nominated candidates for the relevant awards categories. Each awards category
has specific eligibility and assessment criteria and all entries will be submitted via an online entry form.
Customer Choice Awards – Online voting period: 20 July – 11 September 2015
The winners in the Customer Choice Awards will be
selected by an online transparent and independently
audited voting process that represents the views and
decisions of customers, business partners and Payload
Asia readers. The winners in the Industry Choice
Awards will be selected by an international panel of
industry-wide experts who will analyse and score the
nominations received.
A full list of those companies who have been nominated
– either through 3rd party nominations or self-nomination
– will be submitted to the industry panel for scoring.
Importantly, industry experts will not be allowed to judge
categories in which they have a direct conflict of interest.
For example: A representative from a carrier will not be
allowed to judge any carrier-related categories.
Independent auditors will vet the voting process and
verify the final tally.
All participating nominees will undergo an online voting process by customers, business partners, and Payload
Asia readers starting from 20 July. During this period, Payload Asia e-Newsletter and awards website
(awards.payloadasia.com) will cover the voting process until 11 September 2015. The voting process and
final tally is audited by an external accredited entity to ensure integrity, fairness and transparency.
Industry Choice Awards – Judging period: 20 July – 11 September 2015
The winners will be selected by an international panel of expert judges, who will analyse and score the
nominations received. A full list of those enterprises (nominated either by customers, business partners,
readers or themselves) will be submitted to the industry judging panel for analysis and ranking. The voting
process and final tally is audited by an external accredited entity to ensure integrity, fairness and transparency.
Awards Ceremony & Gala Dinner: 15 October 2015
The final winners of Customer Choice Awards and Industry Choice Awards will be announced at the Grand
Awards Ceremony & Gala Dinner in 15 October 2015 in Singapore which will follow the Payload Asia
Conference 2015 earlier in the day. The winners list and post-award coverage will be published in the
Dec/Jan 2016 issue of Payload Asia, e-Newsletter, as well as the awards microsite at awards.payloadasia.com.

Post-Awards Issue
The most important aspect of these
awards is that it has the potential to
promote innovative thinking and can motivate people to come up with new
ideas/offerings. Particularly from a technology point of view, there are so many
new innovations popping up around the world almost on a day-to-day basis and
to be able to embrace such innovations to either differentiate and hence bring
in more business or to automate and reduce costs can tremendously change
the way we do business in cargo. Such awards will serve as a motivation for
providers and industry players alike to think outside the box and come up with
new ideas and innovations.
The Air cargo sector is one of the most competitive industries and ever
evolving. Companies need to be cost-effective, reliable and faster demands that
the players in the industry are committed to be innovative and experiment.

We believe marketing is all about
being memorable, impactful and
informative and we apply this approach
across everything we touch. We also
like to have a little fun along the way,
taking care to understand the regional
and cultural differences of the audience
and country we are speaking to. Our
number one objective is to get noticed
by standing out from the crowd and to
leave our audience wondering ‘What’s
Virgin going to do next?’ We are
therefore extremely proud to have won this award.

Meaning…
Meaning…
It gives us huge pride to be recognised
by our industry peers in such a way and by
readers of such an influential publication.
And this is the second year in a row that we
have won the trophy.
Value…
It is great that the awards cover such a
broad range - there is an accolade for every
facet of the air cargo industry. Everyone
takes pride in the work they do, but it’s this
kind of recognition that means the most.
Outlook…
It would appear that there will be
continued uncertainty in the market
going into next year. With the expansion
of capacity on less traditional routes and
the growth in passenger belly capacity, it
means that there is increasing competition
for freighters. We are looking for growth in
all three of our divisions – cargo aircraft,
commercial airliners and executive jets –
exceeding what we have achieved this year.
– Stephen Fernandez,
cargo sales director Asia,
Air Charter Service
It’s a great honour to have received these recognitions from Payload Asia readers, both for Hactl and Hacis. We are always
pleased and proud to come back to Hong Kong and share such news with our staff. We regard these awards as theirs, because
they are the ones who keep our business running 24/7/365, and who enable us to maintain our exceptional service standards in
the face of all challenges.
Value…
The nature of the air cargo business means that everyone is so wrapped up in the day-to-day priorities and pressures, that we do
not take as much time as we should to recognise and reward exceptional service. Whilst most people do not seek daily praise for
doing what they regard as their jobs, we all appreciate this kind of public acknowledgment of our efforts, and it is very motivational.
“Hactl is at the heart of the world’s largest cargo hub, so we are a global business. The underlying trends on all major routes
seem to be more positive this year, and we expect this to continue into 2015. There are areas of concern such as the continuing
debt crisis in the Euro Zone, and the fragility of the US economy, as well as geo-political issues that are not yet fully played out.
But there are positives too, such as falling oil prices that will eventually help freighter operations. So, overall, we are cautiously
optimistic and have budgeted accordingly.
Outlook…
The biggest concern must be the unsustainably low freight rates which are sapping the industry of necessary investment in
people and infrastructure. The industry is under constant pressure to deliver an improved product, but the rates currently being
paid do not support this. We need to regain our confidence in air cargo’s essential role in global trade and find ways to secure
commensurate remuneration.
– Mark Whitehead, chief executive of Hactl
Kale Logistics Solutions
Industry Choice Award – IT Provider of the Year
Meaning…
We are very pleased to accept this global recognition, especially coming from
Payload Asia Awards that are conducted on a global scale. In past few years, we
have successfully developed and deployed IT solutions mapped to the needs
of a Global Logistics business. At Kale, we are working very closely with all
prominent industry associations in bridging the technology gaps in the supply
chain. Our vision of unifying the global supply chain on a single unified platform
is fast shaping up and such global recognitions alongside our expanding global
clientele are a testimony that we deliver world class IT systems.

Leipzig/Halle Airport
Industry Choice Award – European Airport of the Year
Customer Choice Award – Global Freight Forwarder of the Year
Meaning…
Meaning…
Asia is one of the most important target markets when it comes to the development
of our international cargo network. Over the last couple of years we built up a unique
international cooperation network which includes four Asian airports. We are jointly
working on the expansion of existing air freight routes and the development of new ones.
The Payload Asia Award therefore is a very special recognition for our achievements
in that region.
Crane Worldwide Logistics is delighted to be recognised as the customer’s
choice for Global Freight Forwarder of the Year, it is a huge accomplishment for
us. To know that the decision was voted on by our peers and our clients makes
this award even more prestigious. People have taken time out to vote for us online
recognising that that we provide high-touch, high-quality, high-service supply
chain solutions and for that we are very grateful.
Value…
We very much appreciate the prize, especially since it was awarded to us by a panel of representatives from across the industry
and assessed via a transparent point-based system. The award reflects the ongoing positive development of Leipzig/Halle Airport
which has been growing significantly for ten years in a row now in terms of cargo volumes. In November, we achieved a tonnage
growth of seven per cent year-on-year and therefore performed clearly above average. In general, award ceremonies like this call
attention to emerging companies and outstanding developments in the industry which might inspire relevant people to initiate
further business development activities.

IBS Software
Customer Choice Award – IT Provider of the Year
As the global air cargo sector continuously shows healthy growth rates, I am quite confident that this overall trend will sustain
at the beginning of next year. However, as Germany’s largest express hub and Europe’s number five cargo airport we will for sure
benefit from the ongoing solid development in the Asia Pacific region. In contrast to many other European airports, we offer growth
potential in the medium and long term perspective. In addition, I see potential in further increasing our activities within niche
markets such as freight charter traffic and the handling of heavy-duty and oversized shipments, large animals and perishables.
SATS
– Markus Kopp, CEO Mitteldeutsche Airport Holding
Industry Choice Award – Ground Handler of the Year
Meaning…
Value…
SATS is honoured to be recognised by the international panel of airfreight industry
experts. The Award is a testament to SATS’ high service standards, comprehensive range
of services, and our continual pursuit of innovation and productivity improvements. It
also serves as an acknowledgement of our staff ’s hard work and commitment. We will
continue to focus on exceeding customer expectations everyday, and create new and
innovative service offerings. The Payload Asia Awards seek to recognise companies for their hard work and innovative solutions, and also honour successes
of the air cargo industry. For SATS, this nod from the panel of experts serves as a form of differentiation for us and highlights the
service excellence and value-added solutions that we bring to our customers.
Outlook…
SATS’ operating landscape remains challenging given the ongoing pressures in regional aviation and rising manpower costs and we
expect near-term regional aviation growth to be muted. We will continue to invest in our state-of-the-art facilities, comprehensive
suite of services and new technologies, to improve economies of scale and enhance connectivity for our customers.
– Ronald Yeo, senior VP, Cargo Services, SATS
Value…
We believe that Payload Asia is a leading source of information for the air
cargo sector in Asia Pacific and is widely read by our suppliers, customers and
colleagues. The opportunity to speak with our peers about how they are reacting
to a changing market and how we can continue to challenge the norm of the air
cargo sector has been invaluable to us. As Crane Worldwide Logistics is a relative
newcomer to the industry, it is important for us to share our capabilities with a
wider audience, we have offices throughout the Asia-Pacific region and we are
looking forward to making new acquaintances thanks to the recognition that Crane Worldwide Logistics was voted as Global
freight forwarder of the Year 2014. It is key that the industry professionals in the region continue to network and collaborate and
improve the air freight sector and the Payload Asia Awards is a good platform to bring us altogether.
Outlook…
The International Air Transport Association (IATA) Airline Industry Forecast 2014-2018 shows that international freight volumes
are expected to increase at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.1 per cent over the next five years. Congestion at sea
ports places additional complexity to ocean freight operations and we often see customers revert to airfreight transportation as a
‘back up’ plan. At Crane Worldwide we strive to assist our customers overcome these day to day challenges of their supply chain
operations. We believe that ‘bigger isn’t better’ and have clear communication channels in place to be reactive to unforeseen
circumstances that our customers may face. In Asia-Pacific, we have seen capacity issues, troublesome peak seasons and natural
disasters that have halted entire supply chains. Asia Pacific encompasses 40 per cent of the market share in the airfreight sector
and in 2015, Crane Worldwide logistics will continue to provide flexible solutions to our customers in the region. We look forward
to continued growth in the region yet key to us is to continue to provide a personal touch to our customers.
Kudos…
We are thankful to the Payload Asia group for putting on such a great event where we could all come together and recognise
the best in the industry, collaborate, share experience and continue to grow the air cargo sector in the region.
China Southern Cargo
– Chad Taylor, regional VP Asia-Pacific, Crane Worldwide Logistics
Editor’s Choice – Media Award
Meaning…
China Southern Cargo received the award ‘Combination Carrier of the Year’ from Payload Asia in 2012 and won the ‘Media Award
of the Year’ in 2014, which reflect that China Southern Cargo’s strength and continuous efforts have won the recognition from
the industry and media in the world. Those awards inspire us to continue our efforts in our product and service improvement.
Value…
Payload Asia is one of the well-known media in air cargo industry. The awards given by Payload Asia not only have helped
the industry to recognise those players which have outstanding performance, but also raised the attention from the industry to
the overall development tendency, at the same time serving as a platform for benchmarking and learning from each others, thus
pushing the industry to move forward to a higher level.
Outlook…
We believe that global air cargo market will grow faster in 2015 than it is in 2014. With the recovery in the US, economy in
EU stabilising and the structural transformation of Chinese economy, global trade will continue the upward trend in 2015. At
the same time, the oil price in 2015 is expected to be lower, which means that the operation costs of airlines will go down and
profitability may improve.
