POSITION: PROJECT ENGINEER BLACKBEAR OVERVIEW Who is BlackBear? What do we stand for? BlackBear is a carbon black manufacturer. Carbon black is an additive in rubber, plastics and paints and is used to modify their properties into usable products. Almost everything that you see around you that is black in colour has carbon black in it. We choose to change the game by making a better and sustainable product -‐ a circular product for a better world. Current manufacturers make carbon black by burning oil (the “furnace process”), emitting CO₂ and polluting the environment. We make carbon black from used car tires, in a clean and sustainable way. We choose to change the industry with breakthrough technology and with passionate people; because we truly believe that if we don’t act now we will be left with an even bigger global environmental problem. Current production of carbon black pollutes tremendously The furnace carbon black production is globally around 12 million tons per year generating around 38 million tons of CO₂ per year. Around 60% of this carbon black is used for tire production. This creates an additional environmental issue because after use these tires are mostly burned or landfilled, polluting the environment and wasting the carbon black. BlackBear saves CO₂ by upcycling tires into high quality carbon black BlackBear has developed technology to upcycle waste tires into high quality carbon black, gas and oil. This brings tremendous benefits to the environment by reducing CO₂ emissions and generating green energy. Compared to the conventional “furnace black” process the BlackBear process reduces CO₂ emissions by about 5 tons for each ton of BlackBear carbon black produced. This means that even if we substitute only 5% of furnace carbon blacks with BlackBear products we can reduce global CO₂ emissions by around 2,9 million tons per year. One BlackBear line will produce 4,5 kilotons carbon black per year. We anticipate to build several plants in Europe during the coming years. BlackBear can sell its carbon black in a huge and diversified world market Carbon black has already been produced on an industrial scale, proving that its new technology works very efficiently. Buyers from different market segments have tested the product. All were very positive about its high quality. Given the characteristics of our carbon black, clients see ample opportunities to improve their end products using BlackBear carbon instead of the current carbon black. BlackBear is ready for the first plant and rapid roll out BlackBear is currently building its first plant in The Netherlands together with a leading tire collector. Ik zou Stork even niet noemen. We expect the plant should be operational in 2016. BlackBear plans to roll out its plants in Europe and the rest of the world mainly through licensing agreements with well established local tire collectors. our ref: date: 23-4-2015 page: 1 of 2 JOB DESCRIPTION The project engineer will have responsibility for individual engineering projects and will report to our head of engineering in the management team.
