Beginning in 2009 when we were in Memphis, Tennessee, we are ecstatic to be able to continue our legacy of another successful Youth Conference to be held in conjunction with our 32nd Annual National Black Prosecutors Association Conference. This mission of our Youth Conference is to work with junior high to high school aged youth, specifically 12-18 years of age, to: (1) expose them to the legal profession; (2) encourage them to pursue a career in law or law enforcement; and (3) expand their understanding for the law. This year, we are excited to work with the youth of Washington, D.C., and the surrounding areas. We have adopted the theme, H.Y.P.E. (Helping Young People Excel). Additionally, we have expanded what has been a traditional one day conference to a full two days. Over the course of the two days, the youth will learn successful tips for interacting with law enforcement, observe court proceedings and be provided with helpful information to prepare them for college. We will also have giveaways from Princeton Review to assist our youth in preparing for the SAT/ACT. Finally, we will also incorporate a school supplies drive in order to provide our youth with school supplies as they gear up for the school year this fall. As such, I am calling upon each of you to bring any of the following items: (1) backpacks; (2) loose-leaf paper; (3) binders; (4) pencils/pens; (5) calculators; (6) index cards; (7) construction paper; (8) notebooks; (9) highlighters; or (10) colored pencils during our 32nd Annual Conference. Our youth need your participation to make this a success!
