Textile, clothing and Footwear qualifications:
lifelong career oportunities
There has never been a better time to get qualified! Having a
qualification is a passport to a lifetime of career opportunities.
All qualifications are nationally recognised which means you can
work anywhere in Australia, and possibly around the world.
Today’s system of training aims to continually increase your skill
levels, which will improve your job prospects in the future. The
skills you learn while completing one qualification will provide
credit towards the next level of qualification.
Starting at school
Certificate III is generally the qualification level for entry into
the workplace and can involve both training on and off the job,
however you can make a start while still at school by
undertaking studies at Certificate II level. The Certificate II in
Applied Fashion Design and Technology and the Certificate II in
Clothing Production have been uniquely designed for students to
learn pre-employment skills that can be applied in the Textile,
Clothing and Footwear Industry. Once you have completed one
of these certificates you can continue your learning at a
Registered Training Organisation.

Work Experience: Getting to know the industry
The Textile, Clothing and Footwear Industry in WA strongly
recommends that students undertake some form of work
experience. Work experience can range from a tour of the industry
to see what happens in an enterprise to a work placement that can
last weeks or months.
Fu tu re
During work experience you can see first-hand what happens in a
typical day on the job and get a realistic idea of the positive and
negative parts of the job. Meeting people means you can ask
questions about the industry and about related jobs in the same
field. Doing work experience lets a potential employer see what
kind of person you are and shows them you are interested and
motivated to find out about their industry. It can also help build up a
list of contacts to help you find a job when you leave school.
