CONGRATULATIONS
AHHHHH! Summer is almost here. I can hear
the waves crashing down, the seagulls singing. I
can smell the sunblock and hot dogs roasting.
Let’s not forget about the Italian ice and ice
cream! I love everything about summer!
This summer, I’m encouraging Braeburn students to enjoy all that summer has to offer including great books! I’m asking students to stop,
drop and read for 15 minutes every day. Readers
might look at the pictures in a book, read words
and chapters or listen to another person read to
them. I will give a reading packet to every PK-4
grade student to help keep track of the books
students listen to or read. I will share information about 5th grade summer reading as well.
Congratulations to Teagan D., Mebret F., and
Tarik F. for successfully performing at the third
annual “Hello! West Hartford” event at the
West Hartford Town Hall on Monday, April 27.
These three students in grade four performed an
original song in Spanish about favorite foods
created in conjunction with Andrea DeSimoneRafferty, Spanish Teacher at Duffy School and
Montse Rich, Spanish Teacher at Charter Oak
School. They were joined by first grade students
from Charter Oak and third grade students from
Duffy to perform on the Town Hall stage
together.
Did you know there are over 70 languages represented in West Hartford Public Schools? This
annual event unites the various cultures in our
town through music, food, dance and videos.
Please consider “catching” your child in the act
of reading a great book this summer. Take a
quick picture and send it to
claudine_lavoie@whps.org. I will print the picture and use it for a display in September. Have
a wonderful and restful summer!
Here is the initiative of Hello! West Hartford
and a link for more information on how to get
involved: Hello! West HartfordTM, a project of
West Hartford's new Community Connections
group, is a town wide initiative to build bridges
between community members. Put simply, it is
saying "Hello" and "Welcome" to each other in
one of the many languages spoken by West
Hartford residents. Hello! West Hartford link:

THANK YOU
The Braeburn Teachers and Staff would like to thank our PTB and our
Braeburn parents for the wonderful celebrations and treats during Teacher
and Staff Appreciation Week.
The Concession Cart was especially appreciated, along with the Thank You
messages on our lobby monitor. Team Spirit Day and thank you cards to
the teachers were so thoughtful! The Grand Slam breakfast was a special
treat. A heartfelt thank you to our Braeburn PTB, parents and students!
West Hartford Special Education PTO will
be presenting:
Thanks to the generosity of the Braeburn PTB, every
student will receive a one year paid subscription at
school to one of the above newspapers, published exclusively for kids! Our PTB’s kindness is greatly
appreciated and this gift will directly enrich the informational text component of the Connecticut Common
Core standards based lessons at all grade levels. Thank
you Braeburn PTB!
Christine Levine, MS, JD, BCBA, and MSW
Ms. Levine will be speaking on: "Promoting better
communication, social skills, play and leisure skills and
increased flexibility in children with Anxiety Disorders, Autism, ADHD, Learning Disabilities and related disorders.”
It’s up to us to teach our kids how to play and be socially appropriate, but how do we do it? Please join
the West Hartford SEPTO and Christine Levine in
discussing the important needs of our children in
communicating and socializing in our society.
