May News From Needles & Pins Let’s Think Summer!

May News From Needles & Pins
Let’s Think Summer!
Let’s hear it for May! It’s time to sweep off the
patio, pull out the lawn furniture and dress up the
kitchen for festive summer events.
Debbie Gibson got us into the spirit when she sent
the photo of her new Easy Striped Table Runner
(at right) using this patriotic fabric from Timeless
Treasures. She’s just in time for the many national
holidays coming up!
Sandy demonstrated the prairie points on these
new, fun placemats
from Quilt In A Day’s
Patriotic Party pattern at our April
Creative Saturday
program at the
Grange. Add some
buttons and you are
setting a great table
for summer.
Doesn’t this garden vegetable fabric make you think of
summer? We brought out
the bright colors in the fabrics we chose for the center
blocks to make this quick
and easy Pineapple Twist
Runner from Gathering
Friends’ Runnermania. Salad, anyone?
Quilts of Valor Continue!
Martha Becraft is just the
latest to bring us quilts
for the residents at Charlotte Hall Veterans Hospital. These bright
scrappy quilts will give
their new owners lots to
talk about!
We’re collecting quilts
through the summer
with our 2013 deadline in September.
Watch for news of
that celebration and
please consider making a quilt this year
for Charlotte Hall!
If you
have a
beach
trip
planned, you’ll want a
bag to hold all the essentials. Melissa made
this colorful tote for
our focus on G.E. Designs in March. Called
the Strip To The Beach
bag from Fast & Furi-
ous Quilting As You
Go, this sturdy quilted
bag is very roomy at
16”x16”x8.” Everyone
you know will want
one!
Last but never least,
don’t forget to take
a quilt to the beach
(or backyard!). This
super easy design
from Quilt In A
Day’s Twice As
Nice...Plus More
would be a great
choice!
Happy Summer!

Dear Friends,
I always know that spring has really arrived when the city of Frederick
turns on the beautiful fountains around town. They are one of my favorite things about living and working here.
I was thinking about the fountains as I pondered themes for our new
free Early Bird Sampler program. It led me to choose a dozen blocks
that represent some of “My Favorite Things.” Each month I’ll show a
different 12” block and talk about block construction, tools, fabrics and some background on
the ‘favorite thing’ of the month. You can read all
the details on page 2. Come join us!
Sandra Byrd won the Big Drawing for March!

Please Do Not Make Or Receive

from Hood College on May 18th! She’ll be with
us for another few weeks and then she’s moving
to the Midwest for new adventures. We’ll miss
her, but it’s always exciting to see one of our “quilt shop girls” move on
to do good work in this life.

colors. It could be done in any
color way or fabric style.
