February 2011
A Message from the President
The holiday season has come and gone, and now it is back to the
grind. The skating season so far for the Coquitlam Skating Club, has
been exciting. With great anticipation, we have moved into our new
facility in the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex. For the most part,
the new Rec Rink is an improvement from our old home in the Annex. We are still in the midst of negotiating a few minor adjustments; however, some of us still miss the familiarity of the Annex.
Our skaters are performing so well this year. At Summerskate, BC
Coast Regionals, and Jingle Blades, we brought home many medals.
From the BMO Skate Canada BC/YT Sectional Championships, our
club faired well with the crowning of three Provincial Champions.
From Westerns, four of our skaters qualified to compete at Nationals. Two of our skaters have the honour of representing Canada at
the 2011 International Children’s Winter Games. We can also boast
of having the National Finland Senior Men’s Champion train at our
club.
Our next big event is this year’s ice show: “Toys on Ice”. At this
time we are privileged to have skaters in the club with such wonderful talent to showcase. We are in the process of gathering the talented volunteers within the club to help make this show a success.
Without volunteers, this show is not possible. Please sign up as
soon as possible for your position. We really need your help. This
show should once again bring the club members together for the
main purpose of having fun in a positive atmosphere. We welcome
you to be part of it.
It was great to see so many of our members attend our annual
Christmas party. I would like to thank all the volunteers who donate
so much of their time to the club: our music players, our Board of
Directors, our CanSkate Assistant Coaches, our newsletter editor,
the person who looks after the first aid supplies, and all the other
helpful parents who are so necessary for the smooth day to day running of our club. Thank you also to our four dedicated club coaches.
You continue to inspire our young skaters to achieve all that they
can.
