Aligning with Calgary’s Plan to End Homelessness
Providing housing with support to homeless Calgarians underpins Calgary’s Plan to End
Homelessness (Plan). The Calgary Homeless Foundation (CHF) has an affordable housing portfolio
of over 360 units to ensure homeless individuals and families have access to housing with the
appropriate supports so they can address the issues that led to their homelessness. Each property is
operated by an agency partner that provides services and supports to each individual. More housing
is needed.
Provincial government and home builders fund 240 units for Calgary’s homeless
CHF will construct eight 30-unit apartment buildings. These construction projects are funded with
over $27 million in grants from Municipal Affairs in the Government of Alberta and a unique
partnership whereby 11 Calgary home builders are contributing up to $1.4 million each for a total of
$15.4 million as part of the RESOLVE capital campaign. The CHF thanks:

Building features
To create efficiencies, CHF is using a standard building design program that can be adjusted to meet
specific site requirements. The template includes floor plans and design elements to increase tenant
integration. These include a common room on each floor, a dining room for shared meals, meeting
rooms for support services and an office for staff. Buildings will have security and safety systems and
access by tenants and guests will be controlled by on-site 24/7 staff.

Hillhurst Sunnyside community and CHF
The CHF, its architects and StreetSide: A Qualico Company are working closely with the Hillhurst
Sunnyside Community Association to ensure values of the community are met. CHF and its partners
look to be good neighbours, to add value to the community and to foster good relationships. We have
met with businesses and neighbours on the street and are looking to develop a Good Neighbour
Agreement with the community to ensure the Hillhurst Sunnyside project becomes an integral and
valued place in the community.
