Cardinal Hill Easter Seals Foundation Unveils
New Chapter in Cardinal Hill History
LEXINGTON, Ky., April 7, 2015 -- HealthSouth Corporation (NYSE: HLS) has announced it
has entered into an agreement to purchase Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital in Lexington,
Kentucky, from the Kentucky Easter Seal Society, Inc.
“The sale of the hospital will ensure Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital and the mission and
philanthropic work of the Cardinal Hill Foundation (Kentucky Easter Seals Society) are in the
best position possible to successfully navigate through times of change,” said Chief Executive
Officer of Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital Gary Payne.
Cardinal Hill Foundation Easter Seals Kentucky will continue to be operated by a community
board of directors and maintain its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. The Executive Director will be
Jenny Wurzback, a long term employee with Cardinal Hill. The Foundation will inherit three
services, including:
 Adult Day Health Program – providing medical and social services to young adults
who have birth disorders or have acquired (through trauma) developmental, intellectual,
cognitive, and/or physical disabilities.
 Creative Beginnings Child Development Center – serving children of all abilities from
six weeks to Pre-Kindergarten
 Adaptive Recreation Program – promoting healthy and active lifestyles with the goal to
improve the overall quality of life for children and adults with physical disabilities
through education, exposure to adaptive equipment and adaptive recreation experiences
in the community.
Cardinal Hill Foundation Easter Seals Kentucky is investigating service gaps and community
needs with the intent of adding new services and expanding the programs listed above. As
Cardinal Hill Foundation Easter Seals KY continues to develop and grow its services to meet the
needs of children and adults with disabilities and their families, the Foundation will partner with
all of their stakeholders to ensure that it remains a vibrant and dynamic provider of services in
Kentucky.
Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, comprised of 158 licensed inpatient rehabilitation beds and
74 licensed skilled nursing beds, will continue to provide high-quality inpatient rehabilitation,
skilled nursing, outpatient rehabilitation and home health services. The hospital will remain in
the current location at 2050 Versailles Road in Lexington, Kentucky.
The agreement is subject to customary closing conditions including regulatory approvals. The
parties expect to close the transaction on May 1, 2015.
