Peninsula Health is a major teaching facility associated with major Victorian Universities.
The Acute hospitals have a total of 591 beds at Frankston and Rosebud. It treated more
than 62,000 admitted patients and 80,000 Emergency patients in year 2013-14.
Specialties include Medicine, Surgery, Emergency Medicine, ICU & Thoracic Medicine,
Anaesthesia, Pathology, Psychiatry, Geriatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Paediatric,
Oncology, Neurology, Renal Dialysis, and Cardiology.
The Continuing Care, Rehabilitation Aged and Palliative Care Service have a total of 293
beds located at various sites. CCRAPC provides comprehensive rehabilitation services for
inpatients and outpatients, an aged psychiatric service and 15 bed palliative care unit.

award twice. Our Pharmacy Department has also won 2 state awards and a national award
in quality activities during past few years. Our health service is fully accredited by the
Australian Council on Healthcare Standards.

A new 30 bed geriatric facility has been completed at The Mornington Centre. The $81
million Frankston Hospital Stage 3 expansion, comprising 92 beds, three new wards and a
new Emergency Department, were completed in February 2015.
In addition to the general dispensing and clinical ward pharmacy services, Peninsula Health
also provides the following services: Drug Trials, Sterile Preparations, Oncology Day Clinic,
Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, Drug Utilisation Review, Antimicrobial Stewardship, and Inservice Education for Medical and Nursing Staff. There is also a comprehensive medication
safety program supervised by a senior pharmacist.
We have implemented Pharmacist initiated e-Prescriptions Transcribing Service,
Antimicrobial Stewardship and smart infusion pumps with Guardrail™ drug libraries. Most
recently we have completed the rollout of Clover™, electronic medication management
system to all major sites, which include computerised prescribing, drug administrations and
medication histories reconciliation. Pharmacists can view and comment on medication
orders in real time using iPad™, laptop or desktop computers.

Job Description
The interns will have a 2-4 weekly roster throughout the year which include ward rotations,
manufacturing and dispensary duties. This enables more experience and exposure to
different wards and clinical settings.
Ward rotations allow interns to explore and familiarise themselves with medications and
medical conditions in oncology, respiratory, cardiology, surgical, medical, psychiatry,
rehabilitation and aged care units. Interns are also encouraged to have involvement in
patient care, pharmacy interventions and liaising with medical and nursing staff as well as
external pharmacies and nursing homes.
Dispensary rotation allows interns to be involved in outpatient counselling, dispensing and
dealing with simple drug information enquiries.
In addition, during the dispensary rotation, interns will get an opportunity to further develop
their skills in extemperaneous manufacturing for both inpatients and outpatients.
Selection Criteria
Our preferred candidates are tertiary Pharmacy students in Victoria who are looking for
career in hospital. Provisional registration with Pharmacy Board of Australia with suitable
qualification. All applicants are expected to have completed the immunisations requirement
for tertiary health studies students, current Police Check and Working with Children Check.

Frankston is an outer southern suburb of Melbourne, situated on Port Phillip Bay and is 40
kilometres, or a comfortable one hour drive to the Melbourne CBD. It is a major regional
hub and services a district population exceeding 290,000. Frankston is well serviced by
