Set your Wedding Date. One of the most important aspects of your Wedding is the Date. Here are some very
important aspects you should consider when setting your Wedding Date:
{Season}
One of the first things you may want to consider when setting your date is the season. Do you want to be married
during the Summer, Autumn, Winter or Spring? Not only is this important for you and your bridal party but your
guests as well. The season will also help determine whether it can be an indoor or outdoor wedding. Keep in mind
that in Townsville the Wet Season can be very unpredictable. Following is some information that may help you
determine your Wedding Date.
Wet Season: November - May
Dry Season: June - October

Summer(Dec-Feb): 31 / 88
Summer(Dec-Feb): 229
Autumn(Mar-May): 29 / 85
Autumn(Mar-May): 108
{Defence Schedule}
If you or your partner are in the Decence Forces, you’ll need to take into consideration any planned deployments or
yearly training schedules, especially Talisman Sabre. Having either yourself or your partner away for this extended
period of time will mean that limited decisions and preparation can be made together during these times.

If you have your heart set on a specific Wedding Supplier, such as a Photographer, it is best to check their
availability before setting your Wedding Date in stone.

Choose the Members of your Bridal Party.
Choosing your bridal party can be one of the most exciting parts of planning your wedding, but it can also be one
of the most stressful. If you pick one of your best friends to be a bridesmaid, but not the other, it can lead to hurt
feelings. The group you choose should represent your closest friends, family members or loved ones who will be
there for support, guidance and to help plan for the big day. Heavily weigh the importance of the people who have
been in your life for a long time. It’s important to select people who have played an important role in your life leading
up to your wedding and that will remain just as important in the future. Keep in mind that the people you choose
will forever remain in the photos from your wedding day.

DID YOU KNOW?
The Groom stands on the right of the Bride, deriving from the days of swords - should any man challenge him of
his right to his Bride, the Groom was free to draw his sword with his right hand whilst protecting or holding his

Deciding on your colour scheme can be just as exciting as setting the date.
When it comes to styling, this is the first step. Your colour palette needs to represent you and your fiance. If you’re
a believer in the representation of colours and emotions, the following graph will be of great interest. And if you’re
not, then the following graph will still be useful in selecting colours that go beautifully together (as well as the shades
of each colour that go well together)

In ancient times, guests would tear off part of the bride’s gown as tokens of good luck, leading to the tradition of

Selecting your Celebrant
Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. Choosing the right marriage celebrant will make
sure your day is a memorable one. Following are some tips on how to choose the right celebrant for you.
TIP 1: Personality. You must feel comfortable with a celebrant if they are to legalise the most important decision of
your life. You will want to ‘click’ with them and have an open communication line, this is very important.
TIP 2: Religious, Non-Religious, Flexible or Set. Depending on the type of ceremony you would like to have, it is
important to discuss this with your proposed celebrant, to ensure they are confident to carry out your ceremony
wishes.
TIP 3: Remember to ask your proposed celebrant for an information pack, which would include what they provide,
fees associated, what is required of you, if you will be writing your own vows or if they have vows you can choose
from, etc.
IMPORTANT: Providing notice of your intended marriage (NOIM)
Within 18 months of your proposed marriage, and no later than one month and one day prior to it, you must give a
completed Notice of Intended Marriage form to the authorised marriage celebrant who is to conduct your marriage
ceremony. You will receive this in your information pack from your chosen Celebrant. You will also need your birth
certificates (originals) and evidence that any prior marriage (if applicable) has been dissolved by either death or
divorce.

Below are a few helpful tips that will assist you to select the perfect Wedding Gown for you
1. Do some research
Use Google, or websites such as ‘pinterest.com’ and start searching for gowns. Make a folder on your
computer to save any gowns that make your heart skip a beat with their beauty. Spend some time on this step,
make sure you research all of your options - you’ll only be doing this once!

3. Consider your Wedding Theme and/or Location
If you plan to marry on the Strand, Palleranda or similar, a huge ball gown with a 3 metre train may not

7. Material Types
CIRCLE YOUR
FAVOURITES
Below are the most common wedding gown material types, with a brief description of each
Material: Brocade
this is a thick and woven fabric that often features
raised patterns. Generally wedding gowns made
of this will be heavily shaped and the fabric can be
found in almost any color imaginable
Material: Lace
comes as sheer and lightweight options and also
as heftier materials, and they can be worn alone or
layered over other fabrics too
Material: Duchesse Satin
those looking for a gown with elegant shine and
texture of silk, but at a fraction of the cost will usually turn to this fabric
Material: Taffeta
a stiffer quality material that appears in many formal
garments. The costs of Taffeta has risen over the
years compared to other materials
Material: Tulle
made from a range of materials, this is the major
component of skirts and veils and also tutus,
crinopnes, and petticoats too
Material: Crepe
this is a thick and woven fabric that often features
raised patterns. Generally wedding gowns made
of this will be heavily shaped and the fabric can be
found in almost any color imaginable
Material: Silk
true silk materials are extremely costly, somewhat
difficult to work with, easily wrinkled, and yet still
sought after by millions of brides due to the beautiful richness of the results
Material: Organza
a bit stiff, sheer, and used often as a layered material this is a fabric that appears in many designs. It
can be used easily for sheer sleeves, overlays, and
skirts. Stiffer and easier to work with1
Material: Chiffon
this is often used as an overlay due to its delicate
and transparent nature. It can be of silk, but many
modern garments use rayon chiffon instead. It is a
popular choice for sleeves as well as layered skirts
Material: Satin
this is probably the most widely used material in
bridal and wedding gowns. It is shiny on one side,
smooth, and heavy which makes it easier and less
costly to work with than silk
Material: Georgette
sheer and silky, many gowns feature an overlay
of this material. It can be made from silk, but is
most often crafted today from polyester in order to
remain affordable
Material: Charmeuse
light and silky this is a fabric which is extremely soft
and even lustrous in appearance. It is extremely
hard to work with and is the reason that a garment
made of it will be quite costly

Videographers
for your Wedding
WHY EMPLOY A VIDEOGRAPHER?
Always have the opportunity to re-live that moment when you profess your undying love to one another during your exchange of vows.
Imagine sitting down for a romantic candle lit dinner each anniversary and being able to completely re-live, in vivid colour and motion, that
exact moment and the butterflies you felt.
So what questions should you ask your potential Videographer? Or what should you research beforehand?
1. Style. What type of style would you prefer your Wedding Video be in? Cinematic or Documentary? Or perhaps a mixture of the two?
2. Would you like simply a full wedding video of the ceremony, or perhaps a mixture of stills, slow-motion, “the kiss”, the announcement..
3. Is your Videographer happy to meet with your Photographer? it is a good idea to have a three-way meeting, just to make sure all parties
have an understanding of the angle the other party is taking, and can accommodate to their needs (i.e. so the Videographer doesn’t take the
opposite angle as the Photographer and your entire video has your photographer down on one knee taking shots in the background)

WHY A PHOTO BOOTH?
Photo Booths are a great, fun way of getting some interesting and
memorable photographs from your wedding reception. It will show
your friends and loved ones in their true, fun character and bring
entertainment.
No body is too young or too old to enjoy the entertainment of a photo
booth, be it your brother and sister holding their newborn baby or
grandma and grandpa sneaking a kiss like they did when they were
high school sweethearts, or your crazy mates pulling all sorts of
incriminating faces for the camera.
Your booth could double as a Guest Book - why not take along (or
hire) a black board and have your guests write notes on them, holding
the board up when posing for their photos.

TRASH THE DRESS - DEFINITION (Wikipedia Entry)
“Trash the dress”, also known as “fearless bridal” or “rock the frock”, is a style of wedding photography
that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is out of place. It is generally shot in the
style of fashion or glamour photography. Such photography often takes place on a beach, but other
locations include city streets, rooftops, garbage dumps, fields, and abandoned buildings. To see more

Selecting your Flowers
Will you go Real or Artificial flowers? In our North Queensland Climate, some flower varieties are unavailable due to the humidity, whilst
others will be perfectly fine. Traditionally, artificial flowers were thought to be considered “gordy”, however in this day and age they are so
life-like and realistic you can hardly tell the difference (all of the above photographs are of artificial flowers). Regardless of your preference for
real or artificial, below are some contact information for local florists you may like to consider for your wedding flowers.

BOMBONIERE - WHAT TO GET?
The word “Bomboniere” is Italian for “Gifts” - traditionally, at special occasions the Host/Hostess will present their Guests with a Gift, in order
to thank them for their attendance and well wishes in their union. Bomboniere was introduced by the upper class society of 16th century
France and has forever been a tradition of “Gratitude” to those who attend. So, what to get? Following are some ideas & businesses from
which you can purchase your Bomboniere Gifts from, locally.

Wells, Cages & Chests
TO HAVE OR NOT TO HAVE?
In modern society, most couples are living
together long before their wedding day. With
this being the case, traditional gifts of pots
& pans, linen or glassware is not necessary
(or necessarily wanted). The solution is to
incorporate a wishing well, cage or chest
into your wedding.
But how do you tell people about it? By
incorporating a small “Wishing Well / Cage
/ Chest” card into your stationery package,
that will go out with the invitation itself. The
card can be in line with your stationery and
can entail a romantic or funny poem. Below
are some samples of wording:
“Many guests have enquired
for a gift inspired ~
A wishing well we thought
would be great,
but only if you wish to participate.
A gift of money you can afford
will be very appreciated,
you are assured.”
“To save you looking,
shopping and buying,
here’s an idea we hope you like trying.
In place of a kettle, toaster
and serving tray,
a gift of money would help
us on our way!
But if you had something else in mind,
we’re sure a place for it we’ll find.
Most important is your presence this
day and night, as our wedding
without you just won’t be right.”
“We’d love to have you with us
when all our dreams come true.
We want to know that your presence,
over presents, will truly do!
But if we’re honoured with a
gift from you, please think to wish us
well. May we respectfully request
a donation to our wedding wishing well.”
“We don’t want to offend
but we have it all.
All household goods and
so much more.
To save you shopping,
sit back and rest.
A gift of currency is our request!
Don’t go berserk or rob any banks
any little amount will
be met with thanks.
Now that we have saved you
all of the fuss,
we hope you can come and
celebrate with us.”
“In our house we have the things
that living together normally brings.
Most household items we’ve
already bought and because of
this reason we thoughtA wishing well would be great
but only if you wish to participate.
A gift of money is placed
in an envelope,
so in the future we hope
to furnish our house to it’s very best
and always remember it was
due to our guests.”
“We have in mind, the things to find
to make our house a home.
A money gift would help us set
the scene where love will roam!”
“Because at first we lived in sin
We’ve got the sheets and a rubbish bin
A gift from you would be swell
But we’d prefer a donation to our Wishing
Well”

& Signs for Hire
Chalk Boards & Signs are ideal to have, whether it be a private, back-yard
affair or a glitzy all-out wedding. They add that extra touch of romance,
regardless of your wedding theme.
The Wedding Centre (in Mundingburra) have a huge range of Chalkboards,
Easels, Picture Frames, Windows and almost anything else you can think
of. Many of the local decorators in town will also be able to supply a small
range of these. I myself have a small selection. If you choose to use one of
these to announce the direction to your ceremony, or to list your bridal party
- make sure you shop around to find the type of “style” to suit your wedding.
If you’re not sure what best style would suit, perhaps a standard A-Frame
Chalk Board is the best choice and decorate it with a little ribbon (affixed with
double-sided tape, not glue!)

Wedding Cake
Choosing the perfect wedding cake topper for your special day can, at first,
seem like a major problem for someone who has no idea where to start in the
process. Sit down with your fiance and discuss what type you both like. The
options are plentiful - with humerous toppers, flower toppers, crystal toppers,
glass toppers, the list really does go on. On this page you will
find samples of different cake toppers and below, where to
purchase these locally.
