Inclement Weather Information This winter we also need to note that inclement weather may prevent us from being able to open the shoppe. We will again follow the local school closings with one minor adjustment. If Sheboygan schools are closed due to weather because of snow accumulation and road conditions, the shoppe will also be closed. If Sheboygan schools are closed simply because of temperatures and wind chill, the shoppe WILL BE OPEN. Many of her quilting techniques are learned and combined with techniques of other well known quilters, such as Mary Ellen Hopkins, and Marti Mitchell. Barb has been teaching quilting classes for over 20 years. Thimbleberries Quilt Club 2010—Sally This club will meet once each month, with two convenient times available for you. Quilters will learn basic quilting techniques, including how to select fabrics, basic cutting techniques, piecing, chain stitching, quilt top assembly, and will also include finishing, quilting and binding the quilt. We can prepare a kit for you using the same fabrics as the shoppe sample, or we will help you select fabrics of your choice! This class will walk you through the necessary steps for finishing your quilt once the top has been pieced and the quilting is completed. How to prepare and attach your binding, and different techniques for finishing the binding. Class Fee—$15, plus materials Wednesday, February 24th—1:00 p.m.—4:00 p.m. - OR— Saturday, March 27th—10:30 a.m.—1:30 p.m. Open Sew Sessions with Sally Do have a few projects—either projects that you started on your own, or projects that you just couldn’t get completed from prior classes? Wednesday, March 24th—1:00 p.m.—4:00 p.m. 2009 Clubs Thimbleberries Jelly Bean Mystery Quilt The Thimbleberries Jelly Bean Mystery Quilt Club will be having their last session in February! Time has gone so fast! In February the club members will be assembling their quilt blocks and finally get a picture of what their Mystery Quilt will look like! The fabric line and pattern are designed by Lynette Jensen and are full of the wonderful designs and fabrics that we know as Thimbleberries! The finished quilt measures 56”x68” . Watch for the shoppe sample to be on display in the shoppe in the upcoming weeks—as soon as we let the club members in on the fully mystery of their quilt design! Club members will receive a mystery bonus at their last class session. Mystery Quilt Club/Kit— Class fee—$18.50 per month, INCLUDING pattern and fabrics for quilt top. Moda University—The current Moda University class meets on the fourth Thursday evening of each month. Moda University is a quilt club featuring projects with Moda fabrics. Although our Thursday night Club is full, you can still sign up and we will schedule another class on another day/time, and you too can participate in the advantages available only to Moda You members. Several quilt projects are offered throughout the year. We’ll have ideas and patterns for you on how to use charm packs, jelly rolls, layer cakes, turnovers, and much, much more! There are currently three projects available exclusively for Moda You Club members. Two of the three projects have completed quilts in the shoppe made from the Collections for a Cause Traditions fabric line and the Flag Day Farm fabric line—stop in to see! Each month receive the pattern for another block of the Moda You Mystery Quilt! Stop at the shoppe to see the completed sample blocks. Class meets once each month. Class fee is a one-time yearly fee of $20.00. Each member will receive two free fat-eighths of Moda fabric each month at the monthly meeting. Long Arm Quilting Classes and Machine Rental Longarm Machine Beginning Training Class A one-on-one session for you to learn the basic operations for sewing on a longarm machine. This class is designed for individual longarm training, and is a required class before renting time on the longarm machine. You will learn how to load your quilt onto the machine, start and stop stitching, basting, and 10-12 basic stitches that can be used when quilting your quilt, including meander, leaves, and several other design variations. Materials for the class are included and your sample sewing is yours to keep. Class time will be approximately 3 hours depending on the individual, with approximately 1-1/2 hours of individual one-on-one training, and the remainder of the class time for you to practice the techniques and stitches you have learned. Additional practice materials can be purchased if you wish to rent machine time to continue practicing before working on your quilt. Current class fee is $60.00 including materials. Call to schedule a time—day, evening and Saturday times are available. Deposit of $30.00 required when signing up. Long Arm Rental Time After completing the Beginner Training Class, reserve time on our Gammill Longarm Machine to complete the quilting on your quilt yourself! Remember—when you sign up for a class at My Sister’s Quilt Shoppe—all class materials purchased at the shoppe required for that class receive a 10% discount (fabric, pattern, batting, etc.) Discount for class materials can be received on purchases made any time after class registration is completed and your registration fee is paid, through the day of the class. Class fee is due at the time of registration. A supply list will be provided. You will need to bring your basic sewing supplies and a sewing machine in good working condition. Unless noted, classes do not include patterns or supplies. Unless a class is canceled, no refunds will be given. If you are unable to attend, class fees would be refunded only with at least 5 days notice. In some classes, there is a possibility that you may not be able to finish the entire project in class; however, you will receive instructions on how to complete it. Pillowcase Challenge We would like to ask for your participation in the “1 Million Pillowcase Challenge” sponsored by American Patchwork & Quilting. APQ is launching an effort to make 1,000,000 pillowcases for charities across the country! All you need to do to participate is to make and donate pillowcases. They want to promote quilting as an art form, and are hosting a contest to help in that endeavor. There is $1,500 in prize money, plus recognition at an art exhibit during the Greater Milwaukee Realtors Home and Garden Show and on television.
