VENUE
1.1
The competition will take place at the McArthur Stadium in Potchefstroom and it will
be a competition for Youth and Senior athletes.
1.2
The stadium has an eight lane synthetic track with facilities for all athletics events.
GENERAL
2.1
As part of their preparation for the IAAF World Championships in July and August 2015
respectively, the SA Open Championships will include Youth and Senior athletes.
International athletes are invited to participate and we trust that athletes from our
neighboring countries will make this championships part of their final preparation.
2.2
The meeting will be conducted under the rules of IAAF and ASA.
2.3
Deadline for submission of all entry forms is Wednesday, 29 April 2015. Please use the
entry form attached to this manual for all your entries
2.4
The Championships will be for Youth and Senior athletes and is open to all South
African and International athletes who reached at least the 2015 qualifying criteria for
SA Championships attached on a separate sheet. The competition is an individual
competition and South African athletes must compete in their club attire.
2.5
Registration and number collection will be at the main entrance to the McArthur
Stadium on Thursday, 7 May 2015 from 14h00 to 17h30 and from 08:00 on each day of
competition.
2.6
Implements: Competitors may use their own implements, provided these are checked
before by the technical manager. Personal implements, with the owner’s name on it,
must be handed in at the Equipment Room not later than 2 hours before the official
starting time of the event. No competitor shall be permitted to take any implement
into the arena. At the end of the competition, athletes must leave the field carrying
their own implements.
2.7
Pole Vault: Athletes must take their own poles to the competition area and at the end
of the competition, athletes shall leave the field carrying their own poles.
2.8
Athletes are not permitted to have in their possession cell phones, cassette recorders,
radio etc, in the competition arena (IAAF Rule 144.2 (b)).
2.9
Once the competition has begun, competitors are not permitted to use implements,
runways or circles for practice or warm-up purposes. (IAAF Rule 180.1 and 180.2).
2.10
Heats and Qualifications: In track events up to and including 800m, 8 athletes will go
through to the final, and in the 1500m events, 12 athletes will go through to the finals.
2.11
Publication of Results:
Draw list for each event (heats, semi-finals and finals) as well as the results of each
event will be displayed on the notice board at a designated area at the stadium.
2.12
Participation and Entry Fee:
Entry Fee for Individual athletes: R60 per athlete.
Entry fees are payable to ACNW at the gate when the competition bib is collected
The closing date for entries is on close of business on Wednesday, 29 April 2015.
Entries must be done on the attached entry form and must be forwarded to the ASA
office for attention of Pieter de Jager ( pieterdj@athleticssa.co.za ).
Entry Fee for Spectators, Coaches and Managers: R50 per day, payable at the stadium.

ASSISTANCE TO ATHLETES
3.1
All races from 800 meters and above, intermediate times will be displayed on an
electronic board located at the finish line.
3.2
In Track Events of 5000m and longer water will be provided to athletes on the track if
weather conditions warrant it. (IAAF Rule 144.4)
ATHLETES CONTROL CENTRE
4.1
The call room for the athletes will be situated at the warm-up area. All athletes must
report at the call-room. If an athlete is entered in both track and field events which
takes place simultaneously, it is the responsibility of the athlete to report this at the
Control Room at least one (1) hour prior to the start of the first event.
4.2
When the control has been completed an official will accompany the athletes to the
waiting area and final control point.
4.2
Only athletes and official coaches will be allowed in the call room.
4.3

4.4
Two (2) bib numbers will be issued to each athlete. During the competition, athletes
must always wear the bib numbers in their original shape and size properly secured on
the four corners (IAAF Rule 143.7 & 143.8). Any athlete who does not respect these
rules will not be allowed to compete.
4.5
Competitors participating in track events may be given a supplementary number which
they must attach on the right hip. (IAAF Rule 143.9)
4 .6
Custody of Clothing:
All track competitors will receive a basket at the start for his/her clothes. The basket
will be taken by stewards to the mixed zone. There will be a lane mark on each basket
in order to make it easier for the athletes and stewards to locate their basket after the
event.

RECORDS
International athletes are requested to provide the TIC with a list of their national records for
each event. If an international athlete wants a national record to be ratified, this must be
arranged with the TIC and where anti-doping control is required the athletes or his/her
federation will be responsible for the cost of those tests. It is advisable that international
athletes provide the TIC with a copy of their national record application forms. Please advise if
there will be any other records that need to be recognized.

VICTORY CEREMONY
The first three athletes in each final event must report to the victory ceremony’s area 20
minutes before the time of the victory ceremony. The victory ceremony will be held according
to the victory ceremony programme displayed at the information board.
Please note that athletes must be dressed in their club colours, as the victory ceremony is part
of the competition. Failure to comply will result in the athlete not being allowed to be part of
the ceremony. (IAAF Rule 143.1)
Athletes should ensure that they are available for the medal presentation ceremony, failure to
attend the medal ceremony the athlete will forfeit his/her medal unless if an athlete is
participating at another event during the ceremony. These athletes may collect their medals at
the medal presentation table on completion of the other event.

TECHNICAL DATA
7.1
Electronic timing will be used, and hand timing will be provided as a back- up.
7.2
The measurement of distance at the field events shall be by means of a fiber
measuring tape, but all records will be measured by a steel measuring tape.
7.3
The starting heights for High Jump and Pole Vault will be available at the TIC and on
the notice board.

ANTI-DOPING CONTROL
9.1
The anti-doping control will be conducted on both days of competition in accordance
with the IAAF Procedural Guidelines for Anti-doping Control under the supervision of
Athletics SA Anti-doping Control Delegate and the SA Institute for Drug Free Sport.
9.2
On receiving written notification of a test, the athlete will be permanently
accompanied by an Anti-doping Control chaperone, and shall have to report to the
Anti-doping Control station within 60 minutes.
9.3
Athletes will be allowed to first participate in any medal ceremony or press
conferences before reporting to the Anti-doping Control Station.
9.4
Sample collection will be carried out in compliance with existing guidelines.
Professionally qualified personnel, who will explain the procedure to the athletes and
make them sign a consent form, will carry out the urine test.

9.5
Athletes are entitled to be accompanied to the Anti-doping Control Centre by one
person of their choice. Personal identification must be presented.
9.6
Any athlete who has not been selected for testing may request testing. Athletes
concerned should report to the TIC, and will then be escorted to the Anti-doping
Control Centre.
MEDICAL SERVICES
10.1
A full medical service with an ambulance will be available at the stadium.
10.2
Physiotherapists will be available at the medical centre and at the warm up area.
PROTESTS
11.1
Protest shall be made in accordance with IAAF Rule 146. During the course of the event
an athlete or his/her manager may lodge a verbal protest to the appropriate Referee.
11.2
All appeals must be made in writing on the protest form, which can be obtained from
the Technical Information Centre (TIC).
11.3
The protest must be submitted to the TIC, accompanied by a deposit of R500, no later
than 30 minutes after the official announcement of the results, which is the defined
time when the result are posted on the official notice boards.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION CENTRE
The TIC will be located at the main pavilion signage will be available to indicate the area.

TECHNICAL MANAGER’S OFFICE
13.1
The office of the Technical Manager is located at the stadium.
13.2
The Assizing room is situated in the technical store on the northern side of the main
pavilion.
SEATING ARRANGEMENTS
The main pavilion is big enough to accommodate both athletes and spectators. Athletes may
seat anywhere on the main pavilion provided that it is not a reserved or restricted area.
15.
RESULTS
A complete set of results will be available at the TIC, after each day of competition. Requests for
a set of results must be lodged at the TIC, at least 2 hours before the last event of the day.
