WELL DONE to Y6 who’ve worked so hard this week on their SATs. Whilst it has been a busy week, I hope it hasn’t been not too traumatic. Y6 applied themselves fully and we have every confidence that they will get the results they deserve. That doesn’t mean that they should all get a level 4 (national average), it means that every child achieves their true potential whether that is above average, average or below average and that we can show the progress they have made during their time at primary school. The tests were challenging, and I’m sure that children around the country felt the same, so all credit to the Y6 children for coping with it all so well. We desperately try to avoid making the children feel stressed by the tests as stress is often in the media and is something in today’s world that seems to be increasing all the time. It saddens me that young children even know the word stress and we do not want our pupils to feel stressed or anxious. As I’ve said before, a goldfish might fail at the climbing test, but in the swimming test she’d SHINE! Our children have got lots more skills that SATs don’t test so our key message is try your best and be the best you can be at all times. Well done! These feet are made for walking A polite reminder that all children must wear appropriate footwear for school, as set out in our prospectus and uniform policy. Footwear for school activities must be sensible and safe. Black shoes, or sensible sandals in warmer weather, can be worn but trainers, Ugg boots, crocs, flip-flops, wedges, platforms etc. are unsafe and inappropriate for school and are therefore not permitted. Speaking & Listening We really value the importance of speaking and listening because, quite simply – - the more a child listens well to lots of speaking, the more (s)he will be able to understand and use and write - the better a child speaks, with interesting words and structures, the better (s)he will write, with interesting words and sentences I’ve recently come across a great resource which I’ve shared with teachers but thought you may like to access this great idea too! Why not use the ideas in The Key Jar to open some thought-provoking discussion at home or on a journey? Did You Know?! We cannot phone or text you in an emergency unless we always have your up-to-date contact details! Please let us know immediately of any change of your address, mobile or home phone number and email address. You must also make us aware of any significant medical condition of your child, or any change in a condition. If you have any comments or queries you can contact the school office on 428 2476 or email me via headteacher@cheadleheath-pri.stockport.sch.uk Cheadle Heath Primary School You can keep up to date with our latest news, reviews, newsletters, photos etc on our website at www.cheadleheathprimary.stockport.sch.uk or via twitter @CHPSchool Tweet tweet Parent Council Feedback All classes have twitter accounts where they periodically tweet news and activities from the class. We have not been prescriptive in how many times a day / week / month staff tweet as our main priority is to focus on teaching the children and giving them the best possible quality educational experiences. Unfortunately, as a number of negative comments have recently been tweeted in the public domain, class twitter accounts for next year are being reviewed by SLT and consideration is being given to just retaining the main school twitter account. The Parent Council met on Monday and minutes of the meeting will be available soon. Amongst aspects of school life discussed were: World Book Day - some parents disliked having a whole school book theme and considered Where’s Wally to be an expensive book choice Online payments – Mrs Haskayne was in attendance to answer questions about the payment system Y6 blue jumpers and the responsibility and expectations associated with wearing them Door entry to Reception and Nursery Want a free uniform? Summer Term Class assemblies As you are aware, all pupils in Reception and KS1 currently receive universal free school meals (UFSM) as part of a government initiative to give all children under 7 access to a free meal at lunchtime. However, since this initiative has been introduced we have noticed that our percentage of parents signing up to show eligibility for free school meals has decreased which has an impact on our budget. This is because accessing UFSM does not automatically mean that your child will receive Pupil Premium Grant (PPG) benefits. Why? Well read on … KS2 class assemblies will be held as follows this term: You must apply for PPG eligibility before we receive additional funding which in turn enables your child to access a full range of support activities and subsidies. So, as an incentive for parents who are eligible to sign up for free school meals but not currently taking that offer up, we are offering a free uniform for September if you sign up this half term. Please call into the main Reception office and ask to speak to Ms Stronach about proving Pupil Premium eligibility or look here. You need to act quickly because this is a short term offer only and you nd must apply by Friday 22 May to receive the free school uniform for September. Pupil Premium is allocated to schools based on the number of children who are currently known to be eligible for Free School Meals, whose parents serve in the Armed Forces and children who have been looked after in local authority care continuously for more than six months. The purpose of the Pupil Premium is to help schools to provide targeted support for vulnerable children - not necessarily just children who qualify for FSM. “It is for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium, allocated to schools…. is spent, since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.” (DfE website) The funding is therefore given to schools to spend as they think best, although there is a requirement to publish online how this money is spent. For more details on the Pupil Premium click here and you can read how we spent our money last year here. It’s a fact! Under our newly reconstituted governing body, we have three parent governors. These positions are currently filled by Mr Andrew Ashford (also Vice Chair), Mrs Helen Lund and newly appointed Mrs Jules Shaw, who will be joining the governing body later this term. Our parent governors serve a four year term of office and bring a wide and varied skill set to the governing body. Our Chair of Governors is Ms Louise Skelhorn. Wednesday 6th May Tuesday 23rd June * Wednesday 1st July Aquamarine (Y5 ) Opal (Y4) Amethyst (Y3) 9.05am 9.05am 9.05am The sun has got its hat on We are approaching the time of year when, hopefully, children will need sun protection. On sunny days please apply sun cream to your child before they come to school as we are not able to apply it for them (they may bring cream and apply it themselves). Please also ensure they bring a sunhat and water bottle so that they so not become dehydrated. If your child suffers from hay fever, please make sure medication is taken before school to prevent them being uncomfortable during the day. It’s all about the money Key Stage 2 pupils are eagerly anticipating ‘Enterprise Week’ next week when they will be given £1 to double by the end of the week. Pupils will learn the importance of listening, negotiating, accepting other peoples’ ideas, the importance of working as a team and the need for perseverance. The event will be launched by KS2 teachers on MONDAY and all Y5/6 have to complete a business plan before any funding is released so the children need to save any ideas until next week when the 2015 event is launched as, be warned, it may differ to previous years! All parents and families are invited to nd come to the Market Day celebration on Friday 22 May, 10 – 11.30am, where you will be able to buy things from the various stalls and businesses created by the pupils. The event is for Y3 – 6 pupils but KS1 pupils will be visiting the stalls so can bring in small amounts of money to purchase things.
