CHWC April 2015 Newsletter Editor: Marta Iler Page 1 Our President’s Message I hope the luck of the Irish was with you at our fabulous Sassy Lassie fashion Show in March! What a treat, with lovely decorations, the tasty special menu, our members decked out in greens and of course our talented models showing wonderful spring fashions from Bealls of Crystal River. Emcee Susan Strasser had wonderful tips and suggestions to spiff our wardrobes. Many thanks to Annette Hollister, Chairman, and the absolutely fabulous committee members for their efforts to create a festive mood, and the 27 outstanding baskets for our ticket raffle! It was a great success in every way and raised $2,600.00 for our scholarship and charity fund. Our Mah Jongg Marathon was great fun also, with a sellout crowd, lovely prizes and a great luncheon. While not an official fundraiser, the official fundraiser, the proceeds offered $350.00 to add to our donation fund. The final Ways and Means events for the year are the Military Card Party on April 16 and the Spring Golf Scramble on April 17. Our thanks go to our Co 2nd VPs Andrea Strogney and Ileen Zavoda for all their enthusiasm, efforts and direction to make all the year’s events so successful! Page 3 Sailing Around the World - a Twelve-Year Adventure! Come to the April CHWC Luncheon and listen to Julie Kranker, a CHWC member, speak about the incredible journey she and her husband, Peter, experienced over a 12 year period. Julie and Peter embarked on this amazing adventure beginning in 2002 in a 52-foot Cutter sailboat. Along the way, they had narrow escapes with Pirates in the Red Seas, mingled with wild Komodo Dragons in Malaysia, ran with the bulls in Spain, and were present in Thailand at the time of the 2004 Tsunami. This is just a small sample of their many experiences throughout the 12-year odyssey. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to hear about the Adventure of a Lifetime! During the month of February, "Get Well Cards" or Thinking of You Cards" were sent to the following: Eileen Amburg, Carol Cadovich, Diane Donahue, Barbara Fosse, Marcia Porterfield and Joyce Simek. A sympathy card was sent to Bon Amburg (Eileen’s husband). A memorial contribution was made to Hospice of Citrus County in memory of Eileen Amburg. If you know of anyone who needs some "Sunshine", please contact Suzanne Luzier at 746-9190 or suzanne.luzier@gmail.com or Contact Nicki Puccio at 270-8797 or npuccio@tampabay.rr.com. We’ve seen plays, visited horse farms, taken boat trips, gone to the races, enjoyed the ice sculptures at the Gaylord Palms and managed to do a little bit of shopping along the way. This year the Singing Trees and Chihuly trips were so popular we took two busses of members and guests. Now it is time to begin thinking of places you would like to go next year. If you have a suggestion for a place to visit next year, please email or call Marcia Porterfield at porterfield1921@gmail.com or 352-513-5626 Also, if you enjoy these trips consider volunteering to be an event planner for one of them next year. It is a great opportunity to meet people and assist with one of our club’s popular social functions. As you complete your membership form for next year just check the trips and events line to indicate you are willing to help plan one of the events for the coming year. You Have to Be in it To Win it! Page 5 Congratulations to Claire Lindley (pictured on the far left) who was the lucky winner of the $100 scholarship drawing at the March Fashion Show. There will be two more chances to win if you have a ticket. Winners will be selected at both the April and May luncheons. For just $10 you can make a donation to the scholarship fund, helping students succeed and taking a chance on winning $100. To date $1,560.00 has been donated through tickets to the scholarship fund.
