Maxine is back! We’re pleased to have Maxine Crow return with her extensive supply of knit fabrics. She
will be teaching a class on sewing with slinky fabrics. We all love the way slinky fabric makes us look
thinner and well… “slinky”! However, it is often a challenge to sew. Maxine will give us some tips and
show us how to sew with slinky. Sewists of all levels will find something of interest in this program
When sewing with slinky, the seams are best sewn on a serger, and hems are best done with either a
cover stitch on a serger or a twin needle on your sewing machine. Bring one or both machines and follow
along with Maxine to get the most out of the class.
In the morning Maxine will show you some garments she has sewn and show you some notions she
finds helpful. We’ll also be working on techniques. In the afternoon you can sew either a simple cardigan
jacket using S&S pattern #150 or a garment of your choice.
Bring your fabric and pattern if you have one you want to use, or plan to purchase fabric on the day of
the workshop.
Maxine and Claron have owned the Stretch & Sew Fabric store in Stockton for over 29 years. On
weekends they take their fabrics to a variety of places to sell to customers around Northern California.
They carry all kinds of knits: T-shirt, sweatshirt, lingerie, stretch terry, French terry, velour, stretch velvets
and holograms for skaters and dancers, swimwear, and some interesting dressy fabrics. There will be
time on Saturday for shopping for fabric, patterns and notions.
Claron will be available to sharpen your sewing scissors during the day at a charge of $1.00 each.
Checklist of things to bring:
Sewing Machine and/or Serger
Basic sewing supplies
Notebook and pencil to take notes
Slinky fabric pattern and fabric optional (can purchase at the meeting).
Cut out your fabric at home if you want to save class time for sewing
