West Torrens’
Cheer Up Hut
Commemorating the Centenary of Gallipoli
The West Torrens Auditorium is being transformed into
a Cheer Up Hut to commemorate the Centenary of
Gallipoli.
The Hut will be open as an exhibition during normal
Hamra Centre Library opening hours, but there will also
be the chance to take part in morning and afternoon
teas and hear guest speakers.
The Cheer Up Hut was a uniquely South Australian
undertaking during World War I where ‘huts’ were
established by Cheer Up Societies and provided
refreshments and entertainment for soldiers waiting
to be deployed. In honour of this iconic tradition, the
City of West Torrens will recreate the Cheer Up Hut
experience during April and May. A program of events
can be found overleaf.
