PRELUDE Adagio molto espressivo from "Concerto in c minor” J. Chr. Bach Jennie Benson, Viola CHORAL INTROIT Hail Thee, Festival Day! Ralph Vaughan Williams Hail thee festival day! Blest day to be hallowed forever; Day when our Lord was raised, Breaking the kingdom of death. Rise from the grave now, O Lord, The author of life and creation. Treading the pathway of death, New life You give to us all. Hail thee festival day! Blest day to be hallowed forever; Day when our Lord was raised, Breaking the kingdom of death. —Venantius Honorius Fortunatus *PROCESSIONAL HYMN 108 Christ is Alive! TRURO *PRAYER OF ADORATION PSALM OF THE DAY Psalm 4: 1-8 INVITATION TO CONFESSION (Pew Bible OT p. 474) CORPORATE PRAYER OF CONFESSION (in unison) Almighty and most merciful God, you are generous in abundance. You have called us from death to life; granted us forgiveness through the death and resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ; given us the Holy Spirit; and welcomed us back when we have strayed far away. You have provided for us, spiritually and materially. Yet we have failed to be truly thankful and to rejoice in your goodness. Forgive us our ingratitude. Wipe away our sins and remember them no more. Help us to embrace your whole family – those like us and those who are different. Lord Jesus, lead us to a new appreciation of your suffering and compassion. Take our wounded world and re-create it. Take our troubled lives and transform them. This we pray, for the sake of our souls and for the sake of our world. Amen. A TIME FOR SILENT CONFESSION ASSURANCE OF PARDON Pastor: If God is for us, who can be against us? There they found the Eleven and those with them, assembled together 34 and saying, “It is true! The Lord has risen and has appeared to Simon.” 35 Then the two told what had happened on the way, and how Jesus was recognized by them when he broke the bread. 36 While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 37 They were startled and frightened, thinking they saw a ghost. said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? 39 Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones, as you see I have.” 38 He 40 When he had said this, he showed them his hands and feet. while they still did not believe it because of joy and amazement, he asked them, “Do you have anything here to eat?” 42 They gave him a piece of broiled fish, 43 and he took it and ate it in their presence. 41 And 44 He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.” 45 Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. 46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Messiah will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things.
