People: Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and shield. Our heart is glad in Him, because we trust in His holy name. Let Your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in You. All: Let us worship Him! *Hymn 715 Come, Ye Thankful People, Come ST. GEORGE’S, WINDSOR *Prayer of Adoration Confession Adapted from Abraham Lincoln’s Proclamation, March 30, 1863 Leader: Whereas it is the duty of nations as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God, to confess their sins and transgressions, in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord. Insomuch as we know that, by His divine law, nations like individuals - are subjected to punishments and chastisements in this world, may we not justly fear that awful calamity which now desolates the land, may be but a punishment, inflicted upon us, for our presumptuous sins, to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole People? We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven. We have been preserved, these many years, in peace and prosperity. We have grown in numbers, wealth and power, as no other nation has ever grown. But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace, and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us; and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us! It behooves us then, to humble ourselves before the offended Power, to confess our national sins, and to pray for clemency and forgiveness… Adapted from Psalm 130:1-8 Leader: Out of the depths we cry to you, O Lord. People: Lord, hear my voice! Leader: Let your ears be attentive to the voice of our supplications! People: If you, O Lord, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand? Leader: But there is forgiveness with You, so that You may be revered. People: We wait for the Lord, our souls wait, and in His word we hope; Leader: My soul waits for the Lord Holy God, We Praise Thy Name New Hope Singers and Brad Starner, organ Paraphrase of Te Deum by Ignaz Franz Translated by Charles Walworth more than those who watch for the morning, People: more than those who watch for the morning. Leader: O people of God, hope in the Lord! Arr. Robert Lau Thee; All on earth Thy scepter claim, all in heav’n above adore Thee; Infinite Thy vast domain, everlasting is Thy reign. Choir: Hark, the loud celestial hymn angel choirs above are raising; Cherubim and seraphim, in unceasing chorus praising, Fill the heav’ns with sweet accord: holy, holy, holy Lord! Lo, the apostolic train join, thy sacred name to hallow; For with the Lord there is steadfast love, and with Him is great power to redeem. Prophets swell the loud refrain, and the white-robed martyrs follow; And, from morn to set of sun through the Church the song goes on… People: Holy Father, Holy Son, Holy Spirit, Three we name Thee; While in essence only One, undivided God we claim Thee; Then, adoring, bend the knee and confess the mystery! *Scripture Reading Sermon Gospel Identity Colossians 3:12 (pg. 834) *Hymn 98 Now Thank We All Our God People: It is He who will redeem us from all our iniquities. *Benediction *Hymn 716 *Postlude Now Thank We All Our God Sing to the Lord of Harvest Grosser Gott People: Holy God we praise Thy name, Lord of all, we bow before Prayers of Confession Leader: Let us confess our sins… [see insert] Assurance of Pardon *Tithes, Offerings, Prayer and Music Please pass the Friendship Pads Local Mission: Kevin Cummings, Teen Challenge of Southwest Florida National Mission: Mark & Mylissa Horrocks, Habitat for Hope, Memphis World Mission: New Missions Systems International, Middle East WIE LIEBLICH IST DER MAIEN Pastor Eddie Spencer NUN DANKET New Hope Baroque Ensemble Darlene Starner, flute; Linda Hart, cello; Phil Chandler, organ Pastoral Prayer Choral Response Ten Thousand, Thousand Precious Gifts New Hope Singers [Verse 4 from When All Your Mercies, O My God, Hymnal 56] *Doxology LASST UNS ERFREUEN Praise God from whom all blessings flow.
