Christmas Trees were first planted in Ashe County in 1957
as a Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) Project. Since then,
Ashe County has become the largest producer of Christmas
trees east of the Mississippi River and is proud to be the home
of over 700 family-owned farms with more than 12,000 acres
in Christmas tree production. In the last 25 years, Ashe County
trees have graced the Blue Room of the White House seven
times, more than any other county in the nation. The privilege of
supplying the White House
Christmas Tree is an honor
bestowed each year to the
National Grand Champion
Christmas Tree grower
and Ashe County growers
are proud to have been a
part of many Presidential
Christmas celebrations.
Whether you seek a peaceful place of solitude in which to
locate your first fresh-cut Christmas tree, or an energetic
Christmas tree farm offering fun-filled activities for the
children, Ashe County, NC has the tree farm for you! Visit for
the day or stay for a week in delightful Ashe County. Located
in the northwest corner of North Carolina, Ashe County has
much to offer. Travel the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy
the New River, the second oldest river in the world, as you
experience the beauty that is the North Carolina Mountains.
Visit historic West Jefferson and the surrounding towns of

Ashe County Christmas Trees
Your Perfect Ashe County Christmas Tree
Start a Family Tradition
Give your family an experience that may very well develop
into a tradition that carries on for generations. Ashe County’s
Choose and Cut season begins every year on the Friday after
Thanksgiving as local shops, decorated for the season, offer
holiday specials. The celebration continues that evening
as the community gathers for the annual Christmas tree
lighting in downtown West Jefferson. During this evening
of festivities Santa will arrive to hand out candy canes and
a special reading of "’Twas the Night before Christmas”
will thrill both old and young alike. Free hot chocolate
is dispensed while traditional Christmas Carols are sung
around a bonfire. Throughout the county holiday delights,
including a spectacular gingerbread house display, are open
to the public. Visit www.VisitWestJefferson.org to view the
calendar of events and make plans to launch your holiday
season in a manner that will create memories to last a lifetime.

Choose & Cut Christmas tree farms are family-owned,
sustainable and eco-friendly. One acre of Christmas trees
produces enough oxygen for 18 people. Natural Christmas
trees help reduce greenhouse gases, protect watersheds and
green space, and create a natural habitat for birds, bear, deer
and countless other wildlife. Support the local farmer, the
North Carolina economy and the environment and all who
depend on it by making an Ashe County Christmas tree part
of your family’s Christmas celebration. Christmas begins
with the tree, and the tree begins in Ashe County.
