SUMMARY
A cinematic, inventive, heartwarming, and completely nerdtastic
adventure from the bestselling author of Ready Player One, soon to be a
major motion picture directed by Steven Spielberg.
Zack Lightman is daydreaming through another dull math class when the high-tech
dropship lands in his school’s courtyard--and when the men in the dark suits and
sunglasses leap out of the ship and start calling his name, he’s sure he’s still dreaming. But
the dream is all too real; the people of Earth need him. As Zack soon discovers, the video
game he’s been playing obsessively for years isn’t just a game; it’s part of a massive, top
secret government training program, designed to teach gamers the skills they’ll need to
defend Earth from an impending alien invasion.
And now...that invasion is coming.

The Rising
Ryan D’Agostino
Publicist: Lauren Kuhn | 212-782-8637 | lkuhn@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
A harrowing but deeply uplifting book about healing against all odds,
written by an award-winning writer with deep access to Dr. William Petit,
whose entire family was murdered in a Connecticut home invasion,
reminiscent of In Cold Blood.
On July 22, 2007, William Petit, an Ivy League-educated doctor and pillar of a tight-knit
community, enjoyed a quiet dinner with his wife and two young daughters. By 3:00 the next
morning, Petit’s world was upended in a series of horrific, random events that culminated
with the torture and brutal murders of his family. The Rising chronicles the making of an
exceptional man and New England town that raised him, taking us from his early days in
Plainville, CT, to the new life that includes a second marriage and newborn son. Petit’s
story is not only about a man absorbing an unimaginable blow; it’s about the human
impulse to live, and what allows us to survive even when it seems there is nothing left.
Until that terrible July day, Petit had led an unusually ordinary, blessed life. The
extremity of the suffering thrust upon him forced him to confront questions he never
wanted to ask: Would it have been better never to have found love at all, when the void
left by the departed is so cruel and endless? What is the life we build worth to the world?
How can we find joy in so much pain? And what is our obligation to those who look to us
to shoulder our burdens with dignity? These are questions all of us, in a much less urgent
way, face just by being alive. Through Petit and the loved ones who rallied around him,
The Rising offers profound and moving answers, and a remarkable example of indomitable
love, astonishing determination, and the power of the human spirit.

Superforecasting
The Art and Science of Prediction
Philip E. Tetlock and Dan Gardner
Publicist: Rachel Rokicki | 212-782-8455 | rrokicki@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
From one of the world’s most highly regarded social scientists comes a
seminal book on forecasting that shows, for the first time, how we can all
get better at making predictions.
Everyone would benefit from seeing further into the future, whether buying stocks,
crafting policy, launching a new product, or simply planning the week’s meals.
Unfortunately, people tend to be terrible forecasters. As Wharton professor Philip Tetlock
showed in a landmark 2005 study, even experts’ predictions are only slightly better than
chance. However, an important, and underreported, conclusion of that study was that
some experts do have real foresight, and Tetlock has spent the past decade trying to figure
out why. What makes some people so good? And can this talent be taught?
In Superforecasters, Tetlock and coauthor Dan Gardner offer a masterwork on
prediction, drawinging on decades of research and the results of a massive, governmentfunded forecasting tournament. The Good Judgment Project involves tens of thousands
of ordinary people--including a Brooklyn filmmaker, a retired pipe installer, and a former
ballroom dancer--who set out to forecast global events. Some of the volunteers have
turned out to be astonishingly good. They’ve beaten other benchmarks, competitors, and
prediction markets. They’ve even beaten the collective judgment of intelligence analysts
with access to classified information. They are “superforecasters.”
In this groundbreaking and accessible book, Tetlock and Gardner show us how we can
learn from this elite group. Weaving together stories of forecasting successes (the raid on
Osama bin Laden’s compound) and failures (the Bay of Pigs) and interviews with a range
of high-level decision makers, from David Petraeus to Robert Rubin, they show that good
forecasting doesn’t require powerful computers or arcane methods. It involves gathering
evidence from a variety of sources, learning to think probabilistically, working in teams,
keeping score, and being willing to admit error and change course. Superforecasting offers
the first demonstrably effective way to improve our ability to predict the future--whether
in business, finance, politics, international affairs, or daily life.

PHILIP E. TETLOCK is the Annenberg University Professor at the University of Pennsylvania,
with appointments in Wharton, psychology and political science. He is co-leader of the

Lights Out
A Cyberattack, A Nation Unprepared, Surviving the Aftermath
Ted Koppel
Publicist: Penny Simon | 865-675-1705 | psimon@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
Renowned broadcast journalist Ted Koppel reports that a major
cyberattack on America’s power grid is not only possible but likely,
that it would be unimaginably devastating, and that the United States is
shockingly unprepared.
Ask the Red Cross or FEMA what to do during a major power outage and they will tell you to
be sure to have extra batteries and three days’ worth of extra food and water on hand, along
with a few other necessities. But what if the blackout arrived without warning and lasted not
days but weeks or months? There would be no running water; no sewage; no electric heat,
refrigeration, or light. Food and medical supplies would dwindle. Banks would not function.
Gas stations without generators would no longer be able to pump fuel. The devices we rely
on would go dark. Firefighters and police officers might no longer be reachable, or might
choose to stay with their own families. Mass evacuation would become chaos.
The fact is, one well-placed attack on the electrical grid could lastingly cripple much of
our infrastructure. Several nation states hostile to the United States could do it, and the
ranks of criminal and terrorist organizations approaching the capability are growing. Ted
Koppel convincingly argues that it is not a question of if such an attack will occur, but when.
National leaders across government, industry, and the military know this--as they candidly
admit in these pages. The Department of Homeland Security has no plan for the aftermath
of an attack on the power grid. Individuals are largely left to their own devices, leading to
an explosion of the “prepper” movement. Koppel visits one wealthy prepper who has built a
retreat equipped with a specially excavated three-acre lake stocked with fish. But how will
ordinary civilians survive? The Mormon church has elaborate plans for long-term disaster
survival, but it doesn’t have the resources for everyone. Lights Out exposes the breadth and
urgency of the problem and suggests ways to prepare for the inevitable catastrophe.

History - Europe - Western
The leafy Avenue Foch, one of the most exclusive
residential streets in Nazi-occupied France, was Paris’s
hotbed of daring spies, murderous secret police, amoral
informers, and Vichy collaborators. So when American
physician Sumner Jackson, who lived at Number 11, found
himself drawn into the Liberation network of the French
Resistance, he knew the stakes were impossibly high. Just
down the road at Number 31 was Theodor Dannecker, an
Eichmann protégé charged with deporting French Jews
to concentration camps. And Number 84 housed the
Parisian headquarters of the Gestapo, run by the most
effective spy hunter in Nazi Germany.
From his office at the American Hospital, Jackson
smuggled fallen Allied fighter pilots safely out of France.
After witnessing the brutal roundup of his Jewish friends,
Jackson invited the Liberation to officially operate out
of his home at Number 11--but the noose soon began to
tighten. When his secret life was discovered by his Nazi
neighbors, he and his family were forced to undertake
a journey into the dark heart of the war-torn continent
from which there was little chance of return.
Drawing upon a wealth of primary source material and
extensive interviews with Phillip Jackson, Alex Kershaw recreates the City of Light during its darkest days. The untold
story of the Jackson family anchors the suspenseful narrative,
and Kershaw dazzles readers with the vivid immediacy of the
best spy thrillers. Awash with the tense atmosphere of World
War II’s Europe, Avenue of Spies introduces us to the brave
doctor who risked everything to defy Hitler.

The 1920s are famous as the golden age of jazz and
glamour, but it was also an era of fevered yearning for
communion with an unseen spirit world, after the loss of
tens of millions in the First World War and the Spanishflu epidemic. A desperate search for reunion with dead
loved ones precipitated a tidal wave of self-proclaimed
psychics—and, as reputable media sought stories on
occult phenomena, mediums became celebrities.
Against this backdrop, in 1924, the pretty wife of a
distinguished Boston surgeon became the idolized focus of
the raging national debate over Spiritualism, a movement
centered on communication with the dead. The Boston
psychic became known as Margery, a socially prominent
woman of exceptional charm. Her most vocal advocate
was Sherlock Holmes’s creator, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle,
who urged her to enter a controversial contest, sponsored
by Scientific American and offering a large cash prize to
the first medium declared authentic by its impressive
five-man investigative committee. Margery’s supernatural
gifts beguiled four of the judges. There was one left to
convince...the acclaimed escape artist Harry Houdini.
David Jaher’s extraordinary debut culminates in
the showdown between Houdini, the world’s greatest
unmasker of charlatans, and Margery, the nation’s most
credible spirit medium. The Witch of Lime Street, the
first book to capture their electric public rivalry and the
competition that brought them into each other’s orbit,
returns us to an oft-mythologized era, all while igniting
our imagination and engaging with the timeless question:
Is there life after death?

Psychology - Psychopathology - Autism
Eighty years ago in Mississippi, the first child diagnosed
with autism--Donald Triplett--was born. His parents
embarked on a journey to understand the mysterious
and complex condition that affected their son. In the
years that followed, autism remained an exceedingly rare
condition, limited to the 11 children cited in the original
journal article announcing the disorder’s discovery. Today,
physicians, parents, and politicians regularly speak of
an “epidemic” of autism. The rate of autism spectrum
disorders has been accelerating dramatically since the
early 1990s, and some form of autism is now estimated to
affect 1 in every 88 American children.
A Simple Twist of Fate is the extraordinary human story
of the quest to understand and treat autism. It is also the
definitive history of a condition shrouded in mystery and
fear. National Magazine Award finalists John Donvan and
Caren Zucker, whose families have both been affected
by autism, have conducted over 150 interviews with top
scientists, educators, politicians, therapists, movie stars,
shaman, and other experts.
A Simple Twist of Fate features moments of incredible
humanity and absolute depravity, from civil rights battles
to the long nights of parents wracked by guilt, isolation
and the pain of feeling they might never know who their
children were on the inside. In this way, A Simple Twist of
Fate is the story of more than just thousands of autistic
children, adults, and their parents--it’s about all of us.

In a future where collective memory has vanished following a historic
catastrophe, one couple’s love affair could have shattering consequences
for the human race. Finalist for the 2014 Man Booker Prize.
Kevern Cohen doesn’t know why his father always drew two fingers across his lips when
he said a word starting with a J. It wasn’t then, and isn’t now, the time or place to ask
questions. Ailinn Solomons, too, knows only a world of lost histories and watchfulness.
When Ailinn arrives in Kevern’s remote seaside village, he is instantly drawn to her.
Although mistrustful by nature, Kevern and Ailinn begin to build a life together. To Ailinn’s
guardian, Esme, they offer hope for a solution to rising commonplace brutality--the legacy
of a cataclysm shrouded in suspicion, denial, and apology, simply referred to as “What
Happened, If It Happened.” As this unusual pair faces ever-increasing danger, Esme is
determined to keep them together--whatever the cost.
Stunning, evocative, and terribly heartbreaking, J is at once a love story, a chilling
and provocative exploration of the power of denial, and a poignant commentary on the
importance of historical memory.

When Robert Grieves crosses the Thai-Cambodia border,
he is simply a lone, aimless traveler: a British English
teacher in his early thirties, abroad on holiday with no
particular destination in mind. But when he unexpectedly
wins money at the gambling table, his fate becomes
intertwined with the lives of a cast of others: people who
are strangers to him now but whose choices will affect his
future in surprising--and often dangerous--ways. Simon
Beaucamp, a dashing expat American, asks Robert to join
him at his lavish riverside home and introduces him to
Sothea, his beautiful and reserved Khmer girlfriend, and
though Simon’s motives are unclear, Robert can’t help but
be taken in by the American’s elegance and generosity.
What follows is a sophisticated game of cat and mouse,
where identities are blurred, greed trumps kindness,
and karma is ruthless. Filled with Hitchcockian twists
and turns, suffused with the steamy heat and pervasive
superstition of the Cambodian jungle, and unafraid
to confront uneasy questions about luck and the
machinations of fate, Hunters in the Dark is a masterful
novel that feels like an instant classic.

This stunning, exquisitely written collection introduces
a cast of remarkable characters whose lives intersect in
ways both life-affirming and heartbreaking. A 1930s Soviet
censor painstakingly corrects offending photographs,
deep underneath Leningrad, bewitched by the image of
a disgraced prima ballerina. A chorus of women recount
their stories and those of their grandmothers, former
gulag prisoners who settled their Siberian mining town.
Two pairs of brothers share a fierce, protective love. Young
men across the former USSR face violence at home and
in the military. And great sacrifices are made in the name
of an oil landscape unremarkable except for the almost
incomprehensibly peaceful past it depicts. In stunning

SUMMARY
A brilliant, illuminating new history of the Holocaust, from the acclaimed
author of Bloodlands.
In this epic, haunting, deeply researched, and profoundly original book, Timothy Snyder
has written a history of extermination and survival, an explanation of an unprecedented
crime of the 20th century that might serve as a precedent in the 21st. It tells the story of
the Holocaust based on an array of new archival sources from eastern Europe and the
voices of Jewish survivors to present the mass murder of the Jews in comprehensible
historical terms--and thus all the more terrifyingly.
The Holocaust began in a dark but accessible place, in Hitler’s mind, with the thought
that the elimination of Jews would restore balance to the planet and allow Germans to win
the natural resources they deserved. Hitler’s worldview could only be realized insofar as
Germans destroyed other states, and his political agenda was to prepare for this new kind
of war. The absorption of Austria, the capitulation of Czechoslovakia, and the invasion of
Poland allowed ever more radical policies toward Jews: but only the invasion of the Soviet
Union created the conditions for the murder of millions.
In the wake of Hitler’s destruction, and in the zones of statelessness where almost
all Jews died, they were rescued sometimes by institutions that resembled states and
sometimes by those who could grant them a semblance of citizenship. A very few people
aided Jews without any connection to an institution and without any selfish motive. Much
of the new archival research in this book is devoted to understanding these people.
If the Holocaust was in fact a result of ecological panic and state destruction, Snyder
argues persuasively that we have drawn the wrong lessons from it and endangered our own
future. The world of the early 21st century is coming to resemble that of the early 20th, in
the growing preoccupations with food and water and in the destabilization of a previous
world order. Our world is much closer to Hitler’s than we might imagine. Saving our society
requires that we see the Holocaust as it was and ourselves as we are. In this chilling,
groundbreaking, and utterly absorbing narrative, Black Earth shows that the Holocaust is
not only history but warning.

Objective Troy
A Terrorist, a President, and the Rise of the Drone
Scott Shane
Publicist: Penny Simon | 865-675-1705 | psimon@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
The gripping story of the high-stakes cat-and-mouse game between
President Obama and and Anwar al-Awlaki, US citizen and most-wanted
terrorist.
In 2000, the CIA realized that their surveillance drones could be weaponized, thus
changing the game of warfare as the world has always known it. In Objective Troy, Scott
Shane, national security reporter for the New York Times, tells the riveting story of the
advent of the drone, tapping his unparalleled access to the top sources in the intelligence
community, the armed forces, and the Obama administration, whose military policies have
come to be defined by this lethal homing weapon.
The larger narrative of the drone era is anchored by the immense, frantic manhunt for
Anwar al-Awlaki, the first US citizen to be deliberately targeted for assassination by his own
government. As far as the president was concerned, terrorist leader Awlaki had declared
war on America and America had, in turn, declared war on him. Awlaki (code-named
“Objective Troy”) evaded Obama’s efforts for a year and spent that time taunting the
president--mocking him online, falsifying terrorist threats against Obama’s native Chicago.
Shane writes a white-knuckled, thrilling account of how Obama finally cornered Awlaki,
while exposing a new type of warfare that has profound, lasting implications that extend
well beyond the military and leak into our everyday lives.

Why Not Me?
Mindy Kaling
Publicist: Tammy Blake | 212-572-2542 | tblake@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
From Mindy Kaling, the author of the mega-bestseller Is Everyone Hanging
Out Without Me? and creator and star of The Mindy Project, comes a highly
anticipated second book of hilarious essays, opinions, concerns, and advice.
Since the publication of her much-loved first book, Mindy Kaling’s life has changed
significantly. Back then, she played Kelly Kapoor, a supporting character on the popular
series The Office. Now Mindy is the creator, producer, writer, and star of her own TV
show, The Mindy Project. She is, as she puts it, “a tiny bit famous,” the perks of which
include being three assistants, two phone calls and a really good lie away from obtaining
Bradley Cooper’s email address and having convicts writing her fan mail from prison. She’s
gone through some other major changes as well--she’s watched friends start their own
families, and she’s grappled with her own balance of work and private life. Mindy turns the
anxieties, the glamour, the heartache, and the celebrations of her second coming of age
into a laugh-out-loud funny collection of essays that anyone who’s ever been at a turning
point in their life or career can relate to. And those who’ve never been at a turning point
can skip to the parts where she talks about meeting Bono, encountering Elmo, what kind
of snacks they have at a Vogue photo shoot, and what you should carry in your purse when
you go to the state dinner honoring the president of France.
AUTHOR BIO
MINDY KALING is an Emmy-nominated writer and actress currently starring on Fox’s The

As a former member of the Michigan Wolverine’s “Fab
Five” and a player in some of the Indiana Pacers’ best
seasons, Rose is well-qualified to expose the inner
workings of college basketball. His sharp tongue, quick
wit, and irreverent sense of humor leave no subject
untouched, from the ways players blow off steam on
the road (champagning and campaigning) and how to
perfect on-court trash talk, to what draft day is like
and how race plays out in the locker room. Got to Give
the People What They Want will also discuss trends and
transitions within the game, including the rise and fall of
the point guard and the role endorsement companies
play in college recruiting. Rose’s engaging personal story
is woven throughout the book and serves as the impetus
to illuminate his opinions on the larger world of celebrity,
sports, and culture.
AUTHOR BIO
JALEN ROSE was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan,

basketball stars make the transition to the small screen
after they hang up their basketball kicks, Jalen made

becoming a multifaceted reporter and on-air personality
for Fox Sports Net’s famed Best Damn Sports Show Period.
In 2000, Jalen established the Jalen Rose Foundation/

Trim Healthy Mama Plan
Keep It Simple, Keep It Sane

Publicist: Rebecca Marsh | 212-572-2544 | rmarsh@penguinrandomhouse.com
Publicist: Allison Judd | 212-782-9164 | ajudd@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
Based on the New York Times bestselling self-published book Trim Healthy
Mama comes a simplified, practical guide to starting and succeeding
this unique fad-free diet that teaches readers to stop cravings and boost
energy while losing weight quickly and getting healthy.
Forget counting calories and cutting out food groups, losing weight doesn’t have to be
difficult or painstaking. After experimenting with multiple diets, losing weight and gaining
it back, Serene Allison and Pearl Barrett became frustrated with the myriad of mixed
messages and took matters into their own hands. Through much research and trial and
error, they created the perfect lifestyle program to help readers lose weight and keep it
off once and for all, and they self-published all the information in their New York Times
bestselling book Trim Healthy Mama. Fans of that book have been clamoring for a more
simplified version and that is where the Trim Healthy Mama Plan comes in. This all-new,
more practical version of the 700-page self-published book shows readers how following
a scripture-guided eating plan that alternates between Satisfying Days (which include
more fats and protein) and Energizing Days (which include more carbs and protein) is the
key to fast, permanent weight loss. The new book focuses on whole, unprocessed foods,
including whole grains, protein, fats, fruits, and vegetables, eaten in a way that fits into
any person’s busy lifestyle. This book also includes menus, quizzes, new advice, and tips to
help readers successfully reach their goals.

Dr. Oz fans are endlessly curious about what he and his family eat. They assume that the
family of “America’s Doctor” must live on a diet of broccoli and bean sprouts and be
sworn martyrs in the church of joyless nutrient consumption. This couldn’t be further
from the truth. The Oz family (including Lisa’s husband, Mehmet) love food! It just has to

for the first time, share their knowledge, passion and recipes.
This healthy eating cookbook has more than 100 simple, delicious recipes from the Oz

SU MMARY:
Authors of the New York Times bestseller Super Brain mix cutting-edge
science and spiritual wisdom to present a bold new understanding of our
genes and how changes in lifestyle can not only benefit our genetics but
help lead us to happier, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.
“You are not simply the sum output of your genome,” writes Deepak Chopra and Rudolph
Tanzi, “you are the user and inventor of your genome.” This revolutionary idea is at the
heart of the new book from the bestselling duo behind Super Brain. For years many
have believed that genes were fixed components of our bodies, that we as individuals
were incapable of altering our genetic makeup. Yet, groundbreaking research suggests
something else, that a change in lifestyle and diet can greatly influence our genetic
predispositions to disease and certain physical and psychological behaviors. Moreover, the
adoption of ancient Vedic practices like yoga and meditation create genetic mutations that
will allow us to lead longer and healthier lives.

Who We Are (When We Think No One’s Looking)
Christian Rudder
Publicist: Sarah Breivogel | 212-572-2722 | sbreivogel@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
An irreverent, provocative, and visually fascinating look at what our online
lives reveal about who we really are--and how this deluge of data will
transform the science of human behavior.
Big Data is used to spy on us, hire and fire us, and sell us things we don’t need. In
Dataclysm, Christian Rudder puts this flood of information to an entirely different use:
understanding human nature. Drawing on terabytes of data from Twitter, Facebook,
Reddit, OkCupid, and many other sites, Rudder explores the terrain of human experience.
He charts the rise and fall of America’s most reviled word through Google Search, explains
the new dynamics of collaborative rage on Twitter, and traces human migration over time,
showing how groups of people move from certain small towns to the same big cities across
the globe. And he grapples with the challenge of maintaining privacy in a world where
these explorations are possible. Audacious, entertaining, and illuminating, Dataclysm is a
portrait of our essential selves--and a first look at a revolution in the making.

Law of the Jungle
The $19 Billion Legal Battle Over Oil in the Rain Forest and the Lawyer Who’d
Stop at Nothing to Win
Paul M. Barrett
Publicist: Hannah Frail | 212-572-2247 | hfrail@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
Now in paperback, the gripping story of one man’s obsession with righting
the wrongs perpetrated by Texaco (and later Chevron, after the merger
of the companies), in polluting the Amazon rain forest over a 30-year
period while drilling for oil and destroying the lives of the aboriginal tribes
who lived there. But Law of the Jungle is not a simple story of villains and
heroes. Steven Donziger crossed the line in bringing the case to a decision,
and may have forfeited all that he won--for himself and the Ecuadorean
tribesmen he represented.
Steven Donziger, former journalist and self-styled social activist, is a Harvard-educated
lawyer who was classmates and buddies with Barack Obama. He first signed on to the
budding class-action lawsuit against oil giant Texaco (later Chevron) in 1991 to seek
reparations for the Ecuadorean aboriginal tribesmen whose lives were overturned by
years of oil drilling in their villages and backyards. As the years went on, in the face of legal
setbacks and a fierce defense by Texaco, Donziger became the lead lawyer in the case,
a larger-than-life, loud-mouthed courtroom thespian and showman who learned how to
manipulate the media and win over public opinion.
Played out over 20 years, in the courts of Manhattan and the un-air-conditioned
courtrooms in the villages of Ecuador, both Donziger and Chevron played by tactics that
would have been unethical, if not worse, in an American legal setting. Near the end,
when Chevron realized the verdict was likely to go against the company, the company
targeted Donziger himself. Suddenly his years of behind-the-scenes politicking and legal
manuveuring, courting celebrities and environmental groups like Sting and Bianca Jagger,
seemed to come undone.
Written by bestselling author and veteran journalist Paul Barrett, Law of the Jungle is an
engrossing narrative of greed and overweening ambition.

The Martian (Movie Tie-In)
A Novel
Andy Weir
Publicist: Sarah Breivogel | 212-572-2722 | sbreivogel@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
Apollo 13 meets Cast Away in this grippingly detailed, brilliantly ingenious
man-vs-nature survival thriller--set on the surface of Mars. A major
motion picture from 20th Century Fox from director Ridley Scott starring
Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, and more in theathers November 2015.
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars.
Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there.
After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate the planet while
thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded on Mars’ surface, completely alone, with
no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive. And even if he could get word out, his supplies
would be gone years before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, Mark won’t have
time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain-old
“human error” are much more likely to kill him first.
But Mark’s not ready to quit. Armed with nothing but his ingenuity, his engineering
skills--and a gallows sense of humor that proves to be his greatest source of strength--he
embarks on a dogged quest to stay alive. As he confronts one seemingly insurmountable
obstacle after the next, Mark begins to let himself believe he might make it off the planet
alive. But Mars has plenty of surprises in store for him yet.

On the same day, her fifth-grade teacher, Sarina Greene, who’s just moved back to Philly
after a divorce, is nervously looking forward to a dinner party that will reunite her with
an old high school crush, afraid to hope that sparks might fly again. And across town at
The Cat’s Pajamas, club owner Lorca discovers that his beloved haunt may have to close
forever, unless someone can find a way to quickly raise the $30,000 that would save it.
As these three lost souls search for love, music, and hope on the snow-covered streets
of Philadelphia, together they will discover life’s endless possibilities over the course of
one magical night. A vivacious, charming, and moving debut, 2 A.M. at The Cat’s Pajamas

SUMMARY
The New York Times bestseller from the comedian and author of Dad Is Fat
takes on Jim Gaffigan’s favorite topic: food.
Bacon. McDonald’s. Cinnabon. Hot Pockets. Kale. Stand-up comedian and New York Times
bestselling author Jim Gaffigan has made his career rhapsodizing over the most treasured
dishes of the American diet (“choking on bacon is like getting murdered by your lover”)
and decrying its worst offenders (“kale is the early morning of foods”). Fans flocked to
his New York Times bestselling book Dad Is Fat to hear him riff on fatherhood but now,
in his second book, he will give them what they really want--more than 200 pages of
his thoughts on all things culinary(ish). You will learn why he believes coconut water was
invented to get people to stop drinking coconut water, why pretzel bread is #3 on his most
important inventions of humankind (behind the wheel and the computer), and the answer
to the age-old question “Which animal is more delicious, the pig, the cow, or the bacon

So, Anyway...
John Cleese
Publicist: Penny Simon | 865-675-1705 | psimon@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
John Cleese’s huge comedic influence has stretched across generations;
his sharp, irreverent eye and the unique brand of physical comedy he
perfected with Monty Python, on Fawlty Towers, and beyond now seem
written into comedy’s DNA. In this rollicking New York Times bestselling
memoir, So, Anyway..., Cleese takes readers on a Grand Tour of his ascent
in the entertainment world, from his humble beginnings in a sleepy English
town and his early comedic days at Cambridge University (with future
Python partner Graham Chapman), to the founding of the landmark
comedy troupe that would propel him to worldwide renown.
Cleese was just days away from graduating Cambridge and setting off on a law career when
he was visited by two BBC executives who offered him a job writing comedy for radio.
That fateful moment--and a near-simultaneous offer to take his university humor revue to
London’s famed West End--propelled him down a different path, cutting his teeth writing
for stars like David Frost and Peter Sellers, and eventually joining the five other Pythons
to pioneer a new kind of comedy that prized invention, silliness, and absurdity. Along the
way, he found his first true love with the actress Connie Booth and transformed himself
from a reluctant performer to a world-class actor and back again. Twisting and turning
through surprising stories and hilarious digressions--with some brief pauses along the way
that comprise a fascinating primer on what’s funny and why--this story of a young man’s
journey to the pinnacle of comedy is a masterly performance by a master performer.
AUTHOR BIO
JOHN CLEESE achieved his first big success in London’s West End and as a scriptwriter
and performer on The Frost Report. He went on to co-found the legendary Monty Python
comedy troupe, writing and performing in the first three TV seasons of Flying Circus and
in films that include Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Life of Brian. In the mid-1970s,
John Cleese and his first wife, Connie Booth, co-wrote and starred in the now-classic
sitcom Fawlty Towers. Later, he wrote and co-starred in A Fish Called Wanda and Fierce
Creatures. He has appeared in many other films, from James Bond to Harry Potter to
Shrek, and has guest-starred in TV shows that have included 3rd Rock from the Sun, Will &
Grace, and Entourage. He lives in London.

In this elegant and compelling biography, Shawn Levy writes of these many De
Niros--of the characters, and of the man, seeking to understand an evolution
of an actor who once used roles to hide the nature of his real life, and who now
turns down those parts, instead to play characters who possess little challenge to

SUMMARY
Superstar pastry chef Alex Stupak’s love of
real Mexican food changed his life; it caused
him to quit fine dining and open the smash-hit
Empellón Taqueria. Now he’ll change the way
you make--and think about--tacos forever.
Pushing Tacos is a deep dive into the art and craft of
tacos. We start by making fresh tortillas, from corn,
flour, and variations with innovative grains and flavors.
We move into the world of salsas, from simple chopped
condiments to an hours-long mole poblano that has flavor
for days. We get to fillings, traditional and modern--from
a pineapple-marinated carne al pastor to buttermilkkale with fried chicken skins. But we’re not finished
there, because wrapped up in this cookbook is an
argument: Through these recipes, essays and sumptuous
photographs by Evan Sung, the 3-Michelin-star veteran
makes the case that Mexican food should be as esteemed
as the highest French cooking.

Justin Smillie is a chef who learned Italian food from a
Californian master, Jonathan Waxman; who honed his
rustic flavors in stylish New York City kitchens; and a
seafood and vegetable fanatic whose signature dish is
an arm-length slow-roasted short rib with olives and
walnuts. His food is just as complex as his story, but at
its heart are simple techniques done well. He teaches us
the difference between hard-searing a cut for roasting
versus a modest browning for a delicate braise; how
to gently steam fish to tenderness, or hard-grill it for
firm, juicy flesh. This is a classic cookbook for modern
tastes--drawing inspiration from Italy and beyond-- and
these recipes teach us not only how to cook, but to truly
understand the philosophy of heat.
AUTHOR BIO
A protégé of California cuisine pioneer Jonathan Waxman,
JUSTIN SMILLIE began his cooking career in his teenage
years, quickly ascending through the ranks of fine dining
landmarks Jean Georges and Gramercy Tavern, before

Alice Waters

combined in flavorful and creative ways. She encourages readers to make their own
provisions from seasonal and organic foods and to explore “the making of things” so
that artisanal specialties, from cheese to pickles, are easily within reach (and budget).

Crafts & Hobbies - Knitting
Even complete novices can make these 32 breathtaking
projects, from gorgeous home decor to stylish
accessories for grownups, as well as fun projects to make
with children. All you need is yarn and your own two hands
(literally) to create a cozy cabled blanket, a pom-pom
trimmed beanie, an elegant striped scarf, and even ittybitty baby booties.
Knitting Without Needles covers the two-most-popular
techniques: finger knitting is a form of weaving loops of
yarn through one another to create long chains of knit
fabric, while arm knitting leverages the crafter’s forearms
to loop strands of yarn into chunky knits.

Near & Far
Recipes Inspired by Home & Travel
Heidi Swanson
Publicist: Kristin Casemore | 510- 285-2944 | kristin.casemore@tenspeed.com
SUMMARY
New York Times bestselling author of Super Natural Every Day, Heidi
Swanson shares 125 natural-foods recipes along with photographs inspired
by her travels both near (Northern California) and far (Italy, Morocco,
France, India, and Japan).
Equal parts recipe journal and photo album, Near & Far focuses on dishes inspired by
Heidi Swanson’s Northern California kitchen and her many international travels to diverse
cities including Marrakech, Tokyo, Paris, Jaipur, Rome, Kyoto, Palermo, New Delhi, and
more. In this deeply personal collection, Heidi turns to the series of dog-eared recipe
journals she has kept for years--each filled with newspaper clippings, magazine scraps,
photos, stamps, receipts, and sticky notes to chronicle details she wants to remember:
a paprika-spiked tomato soup in Amsterdam, the pattern of an ancient Italian olive grove
she passed on the way to the Bari airport, and the precise way an elderly Vietnamese
woman carefully sliced broccoli stems in the back of a grocery in New Zealand. Vegetarian
recipes such as Carrot and Sake Salad, Fennel Frond Orzo, Rye Buttermilk Cakes, Harissa
Farro, Fresh Ginger Citrus Juice, and Brown Butter Tortelli make use of the healthy, wholefoods ingredients and approachable techniques that Heidi’s sizable fanbase has come to
expect. And photographs taken on location around the world--as well as back home in
Heidi’s kitchen--reveal the places that inspire her warm and nourishing cooking.

The NoMad Cookbook
Food and Drink
Daniel Humm and Will Guidara, with Leo Robitschek
Publicist: Kristin Casemore | 510- 285-2944 | kristin.casemore@tenspeed.com
SUMMARY
From the authors of the acclaimed cookbooks Eleven Madison Park and I
Love New York comes this uniquely packaged cookbook, featuring recipes
from the wildly popular restaurant and, as an added surprise, a hidden
back panel that opens to reveal a separate cocktail book.
Chef Daniel Humm and his business partner Will Guidara are the proprietors of two of
New York’s most beloved and pioneering restaurants: Eleven Madison Park and the NoMad.
Their team is known not only for its perfectly executed, innovative cooking, but also for
creating extraordinary, genre-defying dining experiences. The NoMad Cookbook translates
the unparalleled and often surprising food and drink of the restaurant into book form.
What appears to be a traditional cookbook is in fact two books in one: upon opening,
readers discover that the back half contains false pages in which a smaller cocktail recipe
book is hidden. The result is a wonderfully unexpected collection of both sweet and savory
food recipes and cocktail recipes, with the lush photography and impeccable style for
which the authors are known. The NoMad Cookbook promises to be a reading experience
like no other, and will be the holiday gift of the year for the foodie who has everything.

Self Help - Creativity
Life, just like a design problem, is full of constraints: time,
money, age, location, and circumstances. You cannot have
everything, and if you want more out of it, you have to be
creative about how to make what you need and what you
want coexist. This requires design thinking. Design the
Life You Love uses a simple but proven creative thinking
and design process to give ordinary people new tools to
think about life differently, and also includes fascinating
examples from the world of art and design that relate to
each step of the process, plus guided creative exercises.
Turn constraints into opportunities with optimism and
holistic thinking using four simple steps: taking the
whole apart, forming a new point of view, putting it back
together, and giving it form. The striking design and Ayse
Birsel’s hand-drawn art and type set off her brilliant,
life-changing design process, empowering and inspiring
readers to create a better life.

Olympia Provisions is one of the driving forces behind
the rise of Portland’s food scene, and has been garnering
praise--and patrons--from across the country. What
began as Portland’s first USDA-certified salumeria has
grown into a mini-empire, encompassing two restaurants
and a robustly expanding mail-order business. In Olympia
Provisions, the owners dive deep into their proudly
American charcuterie, offering step-by-step recipes
for confits, pâtés, sausages, salumi, frankfurters, and
more. The book also goes beyond recipes for cured
meat, featuring an unexpected but inspiring story of the
authors’ travels in the Alps (and their discovery of that
region’s unique charcuterie), essays about the perfect
wine lunch, and non-charcuterie recipes from Olympia
Provisions’ two restaurants.
AUTHOR BIO
ELIAS CAIRO is the owner and salumist at Olympia Provisions.
Born in Salt Lake City to a Greek family who loved to butcher
lamb and goats utilizing old-world preparations and technique,
Cairo started cooking at a young age in his father’s restaurants
and at the age of 20 began a European apprenticeship in
Switzerland. Over the next four years he was taught classic
butchery and charcuterie by renowned chef Annegret Schlumpf.
In 2009, Cairo started Olympia Provisions, Oregon’s first USDA
certified meat-curing facility. MEREDITH ERICKSON is coauthor

How to Be Right
The Art of Being Persuasively Correct
Greg Gutfeld
Publicist: Ellen Folan | 212-782-8944 | efolan@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
From the Fox News star and New York Times bestselling author of Not Cool
and The Joy of Hate, How to be Right outlines Greg Gutfeld’s quirky, dirty,
funny, and powerful rules and tricks for winning any argument against any
liberal.
It’s not enough to be right, these days. Especially when you’re a member of the right.
Conservatives are a dwindling minority. To survive, they must persuade people of
their point of view. This short book has a simple premise that instructs in effective
ways to express nonliberal principles. Gutfeld insists that patience, research, humor,
understanding, creative thinking, learning from the enemy, and using their own strategies
against them.
In How to Be Right, Gutfeld reveals the debate tactics that have propelled him to the top
of the conservative sphere. How does he always get the last word, and the last laugh? Why
is it so hard to combat his points, or get a word in edgewise? Why is he so darn convincing?
Conservative readers and politicians need to take a page from his playbook in the 2016
election cycle, or they will be doomed to live under smooth-talking liberal leaders forever.
AUTHOR BIO
GREG GUTFELD is a cohost of the hit show The Five and the host of Red Eye on the Fox
News Channel. He is the author of The Bible of Unspeakable Truths and the New York Times

Good Profit
How Creating Value for Others Built One of the World’s Most Successful
Companies
Charles G. Koch
Publicist: Carisa Hays | 212-782-9277 | chays@penguinrandomhouse.com
Megan Perritt | 212-572-2543 | mperritt@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
A Legendary CEO’s Unique Management System.
In 1967, Charles Koch took the reins of his father’s company and began the process of
growing it from a $21 million company into a global corporation with revenues of about $115
billion, according to Forbes.
So how did this MIT engineer manage to grow Koch Industries into one of the largest
private companies in the world today with growth exceeding that of the S&P 500 by almost
30-fold over the last five decades? Through his unique five-dimensional management
process and system called Market-Based Management. Based on five decades of crossdisciplinary studies, experimental discovery, and practical implementation across Koch
companies and their 100,000 employees worldwide, the core objective of Market-Based
Management’s framework is as simple as it is effective: to generate good profit.
What is good profit? Good profit results when a company creates value for customers
in a way that helps them improve their lives. Good profit is the result of innovations that
customers freely vote for with their own dollars; it’s the result of business decisions that
create long-term value for everyone--customers, employees, shareholders, and society.
While you won’t find the Koch Industries name on your home’s stain-resistant carpet,
your baby’s more comfortable but absorbent diapers, your stretch denim jeans, or your
television with a better clarity screen, MBM™ drove these innovations and many more.
Here, drawing on revealing, honest stories from his five decades in business--the company’s
many successes as well as its stumbles--Koch walks the reader step-by-step through the five
dimensions of Market-Based Management to show stockholders, entrepreneurs, leaders,
students--and innovators, supervisors and employees of all kinds, in any field--how to apply
the principles to generate Good Profit in their organizations, companies, and lives.
AUTHOR BIO
CHARLES G. KOCH is chairman of the board and CEO of Koch Industries, Inc., a position he

winners) for more than 50 years, and has helped build a number of organizations focused

nuclear and chemical engineering from MIT. He has been married to his wife, Liz, for 43
years. They have two children and two grandchildren.

in America. With a presence in about 60 countries, Koch companies employ more than
100,000 people worldwide, with about 60,000 of those in the United States. From

The Power of Broke
How Empty Pockets and a Shoestring Budget Can Become Your Greatest
Competitive Advantage
Daymond John
Publicist: Megan Perritt | 212-572-2543 | mperritt@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
Daymond John--FUBU founder, star of ABC’s Shark Tank, highly indemand speaker--shows why starting a business on a shoestring can
actually be entrepreneurs’ greatest competitive advantage because it
forces them to think more creatively, use resources more efficiently,
connect with customers more authentically, and come up with those outof-the-box solutions required to stand out in a crowded market.
Here, John draws on his experience starting FUBU on a $40 budget and building it into a $6
billion brand, as well as stories of dozens of entrepreneurs--some well-known, and some
average Joes--who have bootstrapped their way to wealth, to show how to leverage The
Power of Broke to entrepreneurial and career success.

Caroline Webb
Publicist: Megan Perritt | 212-572-2543 | mperritt@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
In How to Have a Good Day, Caroline Webb, business consultant and
former partner at powerhouse McKinsey and Co., brings together the
findings on behavioral economics and neuroscience--subjects that have
led to dozens of bestsellng books over the last decade--to show us how
we can use these revolutionary new findings to improve how we work.
Organized into the chronology of an imaginary workday, Webb offers
us specific tools that we can use based on what we now know about
how our brains work, and shows us how we can incorporate them into
our conversations, meetings and projects, in a way that will increase
productivity, confidence, and focus.
From the time we wake up, Webb reveals the tools and practices that will help us to
organize our schedule, set our intentions, focus our attention, adapt to uncertainly, make
better decisions, frame the tasks we set ourselves, unleash productivity, and sustain
our energy. In essence, she offers us a Good Day playbook, showing us how to sharpen
our minds and increase our confidence, so that we make sustained progress, resist our
tendancy to procrastinate, resolve conflict and maintain control of our day, and bounce
back from the inevitable setbacks.
Filled with stories of people struggling to improve their decision making and
management skills, and drawing from cutting-edge ideas from the latest research in
neuroscience and psychology, How to Have a Good Day is the book people wanted to read
when they finished Blink and Thinking Fast and Slow, and were looking for a set of best
practices to apply the new insights they had learned to their own lives and careers.

Tough as They Come
A Memoir
Travis Mills
Publicist: Penny Simon | 865-675-1705 | psimon@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
In this powerful combat memoir, retired paratrooper and quadruple
amputee SSG Travis Mills describes how his faith and his mantra of “never
give up--never quit” has helped him rebuild his life since Afghanistan.
During his three combat-filled tours of duty in Afghanistan, former college sports star and
skilled paratrooper U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Travis Mills never once backed down from the
hardest challenges that came his way. The big, likable guy literally woke up every morning
proudly singing the 82nd Airborne song to encourage and motivate the men he led.
But late one afternoon in April 2012 while Travis and his men were on a routine mission
near a remote village in southern Afghanistan, the unthinkable happened. While patrolling
for improvised explosive devices (IEDs), the minesweeper missed one IED, and Travis Mills’s
world changed forever.
In this vivid account of Travis’s heroic fight for survival, he recalls the action-packed and
challenging days of his earlier tours of duty with the legendary 82nd Airborne Division, the
agony of encountering a hidden bomb while on patrol with his men, and his odds-defying
physical and spiritual struggle afterward to come back from severe quadruple-amputee
injuries and rebuild his life.
This searing and unforgettable true story will inspire, encourage, challenge, and motivate
you forward. It shows how resilient the human spirit is, how unbreakable the will is when
pressed with difficult demands, and how triumphant a person can be when tasked with the
seemingly impossible. “Every day is a challenge,” Travis says, “but every challenge can be
overcome. I’m not wounded anymore. If you’re wounded, then you’re still focused on your
injury. I’m just a man with scars living life to the fullest and best I know how.”
AUTHOR BIO

Accidental Saints
Confessions from a Religious (But Not So Spiritual) Life
Nadia Bolz-Weber
Publicist: Carisa Hays | 212-782-9277 | chays@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
This unforgettable personal journey by America’s most-talked-about
pastor shows how, even in our least saintly moments, the grace of God is
ready to break in.
Nadia Bolz-Weber, author of the New York Times bestseller Pastrix, may be the most
unlikely minister in America. She’s a tattooed Crossfit fanatic with a checkered past and a
penchant for four letter words who stubbornly, sometimes hilariously, resists the God she
feels called to serve.
In Accidental Saints, Nadia takes us inside the House for All Sinners and Saints, her
young congregation in Denver. In daily life with her people, she keeps “stumbling into holy
moments,” when a divine intrusion breaks through her resistance and sweeps her up in
unforgettable experiences of giving and receiving grace—of actually being grace. As we
watch her dramatic stories unfold, we begin to sense that just such holy moments are
waiting for each unlikely one of us—if we knew where to look.
In a time when many have become disillusioned with Christianity, Accidental Saints
demonstrates what happens when ordinary people surrender to word and sacrament
in an honest, loving community of faith. Told in Nadia’s trademark confessional style,
and evoking such classics as Traveling Mercies and The Ragamuffin Gospel, this book is a
stunning next work from one of today’s most important Christian voices.
AUTHOR BIO
NADIA BOLZ-WEBER is the founding pastor of House for All Sinners and Saints in Denver,
Colorado. She is author of the New York Times bestselling memoir, Pastrix. Her writings
can be found in the Christian Century, The Lutheran Magazine and Patheos.com. Nadia
has been featured in The Washington Post, Bitch Magazine, NPR’s Morning Edition, More
Magazine, The Daily Beast and on CNN.

How Loving Our Neighbor Led Us into the Heart of the Ebola Epidemic
Kent Brantly and Amber Brantly
Publicist: Beverly Rykerd | 719-268-1935 | brykerd@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
Ebola threatened his life but God had other plans. The miracle story of
Kent and Amber Brantly inspires everyone to serve others and make the
most of life’s experiences.
Dr. Kent and Amber Brantly (with David Thomas) tell of Dr. Brantly’s near-death encounter
with the Ebola virus in Liberia. The first American diagnosed during the 2014 outbreak,
Dr. Brantly’s ordeal--including his controversial evacuation to and hospitalization in the
United States--received worldwide media attention. Interspersed in the account is the full
story of how both Kent and his wife, Amber, sought to serve others in the name of Christ in
Liberia. Then, when tragedy struck--as thousands, perhaps millions of people worldwide
prayed for his life--miraculous events unfolded that resulted in Dr. Brantly’s flight to
Emory University Hospital in Atlanta and an eventual clean bill of health.
AUTHOR BIO
DR. KENT BRANTLY is family medicine physician who in 2013 accepted a post-resident
position with World Medical Mission (a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse) to serve at the ELWA
Hospital in Monvovia, Liberia. In July of 2014, Kent contracted the Ebola virus, and his
treatment and subsequent recovery became an international news story. He is a graduate
of Abilene Christian University in Texas and received his degree in medicine from Indiana
University. In fall of 2014, Kent testified on the Ebola crisis in West Africa before both
houses of the US Congress, and later that year he was honored by Time as a “Person
of the Year.” Dr. Brantly’s wife, AMBER, also an alumnus of Abilene Christian University,
is a registered nurse. The Brantlys are the parents of two young children and are living
temporarily in the United States with the intention of resuming their international medical
mission service in the near future.

No Fear
How a Courageous New Generation Stands for Truth
Tony Perkins
Publicist: Beverly Rykerd | 719-268-1935 | brykerd@penguinrandomhouse.com
SUMMARY
Inspiring young Americans are standing up--often against fierce
opposition--for the enduring values they believe in . . . and making a
difference in their communities and world.
No Fear tells the stories of twelve young Christian Americans who have found creative,
often very challenging ways to stand up for their faith in a secularized culture that
increasingly seems opposed or even hostile to biblical values. These “unlikely heroes”
show the dramatic influence one person can have in seeking fairness, justice, and
compassion in a variety of settings. Each profile is accompanied by an example from the
Bible that connects the contemporary experience with scriptural truth.
AUTHOR BIO
TONY PERKINS is president of the Washington, D.C.-based Family Research Council.
He is a former member of the Louisiana legislature where he served for 10 years. He
was a Republican candidate for the United States Senate in 2002. Perkins hosts a daily
national radio program, Washington Watch, which airs on over 150 stations. Additionally,

police officer and television news reporter, Perkins brings a unique blend of experience
and leadership to the pro-family movement. He received his undergraduate degree
from Liberty University and a master’s degree from Louisiana State University in Public
Administration. In May 2006 he received an honorary doctorate of divinity from Liberty
University. Perkins and his wife, Lawana, have five children.

Religion - Christian Life
When Caleb Kaltenbach was a toddler, his parents
divorced and independently pursued homosexual
lifestyles. As a result, Caleb was lovingly raised in the
LGBT community, attending lesbian parties with his
mother and her partner, marching in gay parades, and
experiencing hatred and bitterness by Christians. To
his enduring surprise, Caleb became a Christian--and a
pastor--as a young adult.
Messy Grace invites readers into what may be the
most urgent and difficult conversation evangelicals face
today: “How can we relate to the gays, lesbians, and
transgendered among us in a way that honors differences
and demonstrates Christ’s love while adhering to what we
believe Scripture requires?”
Through revealing personal story, biblical teaching,
and practical solutions, Caleb’s nonjudgmental voice and
life-tested counsel will appeal to a broad psychographic
of evangelicals who understand that despite the good
intentions of most on this issue, some Christians have done
great harm and we desperately need constructive answers.
AUTHOR BIO
CALEB KALTENBACH is lead pastor at Discovery Church
in Simi Valley. He also served on staff at Shepherd of
the Hills Church, Porter Ranch, California. Caleb brings
genuine compassion and a compelling personal story
to a divisive conversation. He speaks widely on faith,
reconciliation, and sexual diversity to people on all
sides of the LGBT issue. Caleb attended Talbot School of
Theology (Biola University) and is currently finishing his
DMin at Dallas Theological Seminary. He and his wife, Amy,
have two young children.

For years Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio, archbishop of
Argentina, and Rabbi Abraham Skorka were tenacious
promoters of interreligious dialogues on faith and reason.
They both sought to build bridges among Catholicism,
Judaism, and the world at large. On Heaven and Earth,
originally published in Argentina in 2010, brings together
a series of these conversations where both men talked
about various theological and worldly issues, including
God, fundamentalism, atheism, abortion, homosexuality,
euthanasia, same-sex marriage, and globalization. From
these personal and accessible talks comes a first-hand
view of the man who became pope to 1.2 billion Catholics
around the world in March 2013.
AUTHOR BIO
JORGE MARIO BERGOGLIO, now POPE FRANCIS, is the
first Latin American to be elected to the chair of Peter.

as a priest in 1969. He served as head of the Society of
Jesus in Argentina from 1973 to 1979. In 1998 he became
the archbishop of Buenos Aires, and in 2001 a cardinal.
Following the resignation of his predecessor, Pope
Benedict XVI, on February 28, 2013, the conclave elected
Bergoglio, who chose the papal name Francis in honor of
Saint Francis of Assisi. ABRAHAM SKORKA is an Argentine
rabbi and biophysicist. He is rector of the Seminario
Rabinico Latinoamericano in Buenos Aires, the rabbi of
the Jewish community Benei Tikva, and a professor of
biblical and rabbinic literature at the Seminario Rabinico
