CLOSED – Public Holiday (Easter Monday)
The Crazy Scientist will visit us today and you will get the opportunity to participate in the “Bubble
Trouble Workshop”. It is here that you will make your own lava lamp in a plastic test tube to take
home and keep and you will explore giant bubbles that you can actually get inside of! Children
are to bring their own morning tea and lunch today. Afternoon tea will be provided by the
centre. Additional $10.00 per child required today.

Wednesday 8 April: This Hip Hop Incursion is run by a qualified Dance Instructor and is a fantastic session, providing
students with a greater understanding of Hip Hop. The students will begin their movement with
some Hip Hop warm up games allowing them to ease into the session and build their confidence.
They will learn some basic steps by following the instructor's movements. Students will play some
dance games as well as build a Hip Hop routine with Instructor assistance. The session teaches
students basic principles of Hip Hop, dance and drama techniques as well as allowing them to
create and improvise their own dance moves. Children are to bring their own morning tea
and lunch today. Afternoon tea will be provided by the centre.

Thursday 9 April:
Children must be at the centre today by 9.00am or they will miss the bus. Today we travel
to Reading Cinemas, Auburn to see “The Spongebob Movie”.

to spend at the candy bar. Money can be left with the OOSH Staff. OOSH staffs take no
responsibility in your child’s choice of purchase or any lost / stolen money. We anticipate being
back at the centre by 1:00pm. Children need to bring their own morning tea (or money
to spend) and lunch today. Afternoon tea will be provided by the centre.

Friday 10 April:

Children will develop their team building skills by working towards the common goal of building a
shelter. This shelter must protect their whole group from the harshest weather conditions!
Children will learn about various types of man-made and natural shelters and discover how fit for
purpose they are. Not only that, children will be required to plan their design so that it works
within their budget and consider various design elements, including suitability of materials. All this
and they'll think they're just having fun! Children are to bring their own morning tea and
lunch today. Afternoon tea will be provided by the centre.
Monday 13th April:
“Outdoor Laser Tag is great for kids with lots of energy to burn! It’s like Paintball without the pain but even better! Kids can load ammo, heal with medi-kits and capture real flags, Hide behind real
outdoor terrain, Play challenging army cadet style missions, Stay cool - sensor vests and
phasors are lightweight, and with computerised scoring means absolutely no cheating”. For more

Green thumbs is all about developing our own hanging wall gardens and our take home herbs.
Children will be learning about the value of growing our own food and how the worm farm will
assist in the growth process. Children are to bring their own morning tea and lunch today.
Afternoon tea will be provided by the centre.
Wednesday 15 April: Throughout this incursion children will benefit from building social confidence when working with
their peers in a non-competitive and positive environment, learn about ways to
improve physical strength & flexibility in new and fun ways, gain new skills to assist them with
improving their concentration and focus, learn how breathing and relaxation can assist them to
regulate their own emotions and become more mindful, and all have the opportunity to build on
self-esteem and self-belief, something we know is imperative to students' academic, physical and
social development!! Children are to bring their own morning tea and lunch today.

WHAT’S HAPPENING AND WHEN??? (page 2)

Thursday 16 April:
Children must be at the centre today by 9.30am or they will miss the bus. Today we travel
to the Riverside Theatre in Parramatta to see “The Listies”. This show won the Best Production
for Children (Sydney Theatre Awards 2013) and is a rowdy, unruly show that is guaranteed to
have the audience laughing. Children do NOT need to bring money today as there will not be
any opportunity for them to purchase goods. Children will be having their morning tea before we
leave the centre and will be back at the centre for lunch. Therefore, children will NOT be taking
their bags with them today. Children may bring a drink with them today only. Children must
bring their own morning tea and lunch today. Afternoon tea will be provided by the centre.
We anticipate being back at the centre at approximately 1.30pm.

Hero’s: Save the Day! What makes a Hero? Is it defeating villains and saving the universe? Do
you have to be big and strong? Is it standing and fighting or ducking for cover that defines who
becomes a hero? Hero’s come in all shapes and sizes, they come from all walks of life and it’s
the choices they make under extreme pressure that defines their courage. Not everyone sets out
to be a Hero either, however some are born to walk that path and choose to counter evil every
day, protecting the rest of us from danger, often without thanks or recognition. Can YOU identify
the clues that will break the secret code, do you have the skill and patience to prevent a nuclear
disaster, are you experienced and capable in dealing with toxic waste (but please keep this one
quiet so the world doesn’t panic about being poisoned by toxic fumes!), do you know your villains,
minions and hero’s apart, and do you have the stamina to chase down the bad guys? Be warned,
there are 5 top secret missions that you will have to solve and survive, and you’ll need all your
wits, smarts and physical prowess to ensure you remain the hero, and of course, Save the Day!

Fitnessworx Frisbee is a fantastic program that proves there is so much more you can do with a
Frisbee than just throwing and catching! Not only is it great for the development of basic motor
skills and hand-eye coordination but it is FUN! While the kids will learn and practise many
different skills and techniques using the Frisbee, the real fun is in the games! Join in on activities
like Frisbee Golf, Frisbee Rounders, Frisbee Tennis or ULTIMATE FRISBEE! Children must
bring their own morning tea and lunch today. Afternoon tea will be provided by the centre.

A late fee of $2.00 per minute will be charged for any child picked up after 6:00 p.m. without any
exceptions.
Parking:
Parking is available on Felton Road at the Kingsdene end. The nearest cross street is Sandringham
Street. DO NOT park on Felton Road from the Baker Street end. The gates are locked up that end of
the school and we can NOT open them for you. Sometimes these gates may be open due to teachers
or cleaners being at the school but they do NOT come looking for you when they are ready to leave, so
if your car is parked in the school grounds, you will get locked in!!!!
Booking Details:
Bookings are ESSENTIAL prior to the attending of your child at the vacation care program. Forms need to

secure your placement. Please note: Vacation Care days DO get booked out. Your booking will not be
accepted unless there are positions left for that day AND you have paid in FULL by the due date.

Changing your booking: Changes or cancellations may be made to your booking up until 6pm Thursday 2 April 2015. After
this date / time, no changes or cancellations will be accepted. You may advise us that your child will be
absent on a particular day, but you will still be charged for that day. You may add an extra day if we are not
booked out, but again, you will still be charged for the original day you booked plus the new additional day.

Excursions:
All children enrolled in the centre for vacation care are required to go on all excursions planned in the
vacation care period (as there will be no staff remaining at the centre on excursion days).
Emergency Contact:

Food:
Children are required to bring the stated food as explained in the “daily Information” section of the program.
(Lunches may be refrigerated if necessary and heated up in the oven or microwave).
Breakfast is available each morning at no additional cost
Any child who does not bring their own lunch when required, will be given 2 minute noodles, Easymac or a
sandwich and the parent will be charged $3.00 for this due that same week. Any child who does not bring
morning tea will be given a piece of fruit and the parent will be charged $2.00 for this due that same week.
Clothing:
Children are required to be dressed in appropriate clothing for the day’s activities. O.O.S.H. takes no
responsibility for children soiling their clothing.
Electronic Devices:
Due to the increased number of children bringing their electronic devices, we have decided to only let
children play these during the hours of 11am and 2pm. Exceptions to this timeslot may be in extreme heat
or raining days. This is to ensure children engage in other ‘social’ activities. OOSH also takes absolutely
NO responsibility of these devices and children need to be made aware that these personal items are their
responsibility. It is recommended that all children write their names on the equipment. When devices are
not in use, games may be kept in the Office for better protection / supervision.
Sun Protection:
Children must wear hats and sunscreen whilst playing outdoors. Children will not be allowed to play
outdoors without a hat.
WHY WE HAVE INTRODUCED THE “BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT POLICY”
Carlingford West OOSH Centre has decided to implement this behaviour management policy /
process to ensure all children attending the centre have a fun filled day and are happy to participate
in the Centre’s program. Unfortunately, we sometimes have children who misbehave and this results
in the staff having to spend too much time dealing with this negative behaviour instead of putting
their energy into creating positive experiences for the other children.
Negative behaviour from children leads to unhappy staff and children. The staffs at OOSH want a
successful vacation care program, so by managing the negative behaviour, will give staff more
opportunity to achieve a successful and happy day for all.
The rules will be discussed regularly with the children attending the program and a poster will be
displayed for all to see.
We thank you for supporting us in this policy and hope you and your children see the benefits of the
policy.

CARLINGFORD WEST O.O.S.H. CENTRE’S ‘RULES’
The following is a list of our ‘Rules’ that should be followed by children whilst attending this centre.
Should your child disobey any of these rules, they will be subject to receiving a “YELLOW / RED
CARD”. Should an inappropriate behaviour occur which is not detailed below, OOSH has the right to
include this inappropriate behaviour as grounds to also receive a “YELLOW / RED CARD”. Should a
child’s behaviour be ‘severe’ in the opinion of the Co-Ordinator / Assistant Co-Ordinator /
Management Committee, the Centre has the right to expel the child immediately without following the
steps of the “YELLOW / RED CARD” policy. Below is a list of rules that children are expected to
follow:

Children will stay together as a group at all times and always stay within sight of staff
Children will stay inside the designated play areas at all times.
Children will keep their hands, feet etc to themselves and not physically hurt others or
engage in any other forms of bullying
Children are not permitted to damage or break the property of OOSH, other children, staff
or any other person’s property
Stealing from the Centre, other children or staff is not acceptable
Children will use appropriate language at all times – swearing & bullying will not be
tolerated
Throwing of objects which may injure another person or property is not permitted
Sticks or rocks or other dangerous objects MUST stay on the ground
Spitting is not permitted
Children who continuously ignore staff instructions will also be subject to receiving a
“YELLOW / RED CARD”
Teasing / bullying of other children will not be tolerated which includes racial comments
Violence will not be tolerated at all. Severe violence will result in the child being expelled
immediately.
CONSEQUENCES FOR MISBEHAVIOUR DURING VACATION CARE
Yellow / Red Card Process
If any of the centre’s rules are broken, or if a child behaves inappropriately at OOSH within a
vacation care period, they will be given ‘yellow card #1’ which will serve as their first warning. Any
card issued, can only be issued by the supervisor in charge at the time of the incident or the CoOrdinator / Assistant Co-Ordinator.
On the yellow card the child must write down what they have done wrong and what they should have
done instead. This card will then be handed to the child’s parent and it must be signed and dated by
the parent. Both the child and the parent will be informed about the process of the warning system
and the consequences of continuing misbehaviour. This card will then be kept in the child’s file. The
incident will also be recorded in our “incident book”.
If the child receives ‘yellow card #2’ this will serve as their second warning. A meeting will occur after
the second card, with the child’s parents / carers and the Co-Ordinator to discuss the child’s
behaviour and come up with an action plan that will change the child’s behaviour.
It may not necessarily be the same misbehaviour displayed by the child to receive the next ‘Card’.
The same process continues. On the third warning the child must complete a ‘Red card #3’ which is
their final warning and they will be suspended for a day (the next day they are booked in – no
refunds will be given). A meeting will occur with the child’s parents / carers and the Co-Ordinator to
discuss the child’s behaviour again and a different ‘action plan’ devised to address the undesirable
behaviour.
If the unacceptable behaviour of a child who has already been suspended continues, then the CoOrdinator / Assistant Co-Ordinator may decide to expel the child from the centre immediately.
Parents / carers may appeal this decision by requesting the matter be heard by the Management
Committee.

Philosophy and Aims
Our Philosophy is guided by ‘Being, Belonging, Becoming: The Framework for School Age Care in Australia’ and the
National Quality Framework.
We meet our Philosophy and aims by following Carlingford West OOSH Policies and Procedures.
In Relation to Children
We acknowledge that all children are unique individuals with their own needs, interests and strengths. All children are
given equal opportunities regardless of their gender, culture and socio-economic background.
We acknowledge that children’s voices are the most important part of our programs.
Children learn best through play and educators will support development by providing experiences that are meaningful to
the children and, most importantly, reflect their interests. For example, the child’s knowledge is valued and can be used
as a tool for enhancing the knowledge of others.
Learning is promoted through experimentation, investigation and role play. Educators will follow children’s interests and
provide open ended play and creative experiences within a comfortable, relaxed, home like environment and also with a
sense of provoking learning.
Children develop and learn at their own pace; therefore educators will ensure their expectations of children’s
development are specific to each child and their experiences.
A positive self-concept, high self-esteem and social competence are the basis for learning. Therefore, educators will
ensure children are given meaningful praise for efforts, success and positive behaviour and will be supported to build
positive relationships with their peers.
Staff will support each child’s background within the environment, using experiences across all learning outcomes;
Children have a strong sense of identity, Children are connected and contribute to their world, Children have a strong
sense of wellbeing, Children are active and involved learners, Children are efficient communicators.
We will support the inclusion of children with additional needs, working in conjunction with the family and other
support services and agencies.
Educators will support each child’s emotional development through the Principles of “Belonging, Being and Becoming”
and its practices.
In Relation to Families and Community
We acknowledge families are the most important people in their child’s life and have valuable information to share with
us. We will make parents feel welcome and encourage them to become involved at the centre in whatever way they feel
comfortable.
Individual families have their own parenting and childcare practices, which educators will recognise and respect.
We recognise that families are active members of the larger community. We are aiming to establish and further develop
our collaborative partnerships with both families and the community.
We encourage feedback suggestions and opinions regarding the centre’s procedures, policies and the general running of
the centre.
Families need to feel secure in knowing that their child is cared for in a nurturing environment.
Families have the right to confidentiality and respect for privacy.
Families have the right to access affordable, high quality care and education.
In Relation to Educators
We recognise and respect that every educator is an individual with diverse needs, interests, skills, knowledge and
experience. We support educator’s personal childhood philosophy.
Educators will work as a team by motivating and supporting each other.
Educators will help to build an atmosphere of trust and respect through open communications, respecting different points
of view and maintaining confidentiality.
Staff will abide by Policies and Procedures, the Centre’s Code of Ethics, UN Conventions of the Rights of the Child and
the National Quality Areas (NQF).
In Relation to the Program
The program encourages children to make choices and have control of their own learning through individual interests
and their ‘voices’ being recognised. Short and long term projects are added to and changed according to the children’s
interests.
The program provides opportunities for indoor / outdoor play that promotes child initiated small group experiences and
fosters nurturing and sibling relationships.
The program is based on the National Quality Framework where the children’s interests are the focus and educators work
within these interests to assist with the child’s development. These practices are complemented by educators’
‘Provocations’ via intentional teaching.
We believe that the role of adults within the centre is to be facilitators that guide and encourage children’s learning at
their own level.
We acknowledge and support the process of children’s play rather than focussing on a final product.
The program will be accessible and clear for families to read, comment on and offer feedback and suggestions.
All educators will be given opportunity to have input into the program with ideas and suggestions.
In Relation to the Environment
We recognise the importance of providing a safe, secure and consistent environment that supports trust and familiarity as
well as active exploration of learning.
We believe that environment sustainability is our responsibility and we endeavour to become active advocates of ‘Going
Green’.
We acknowledge the Traditional owners and custodians of this land, the Darug tribe.
We recognise that we are part of the world community as well as our local community. And is our role to support
children to become environmentally responsible and contribute to a sustainable future.

CARLINGFORD WEST O.O.S.H. CENTRE - ALLERGY AWARENESS
Throughout our centre we have a number of children with life threatening allergies to various forms of food, latex, dust,
cats and insect stings. This is a serious matter, one that our centre must address.
Some children have allergies that are so severe that smells or touch could trigger a reaction.
In order to do this we appeal to all parents to assist us in caring for these children by considering the type of foods you
pack for your own child’s morning tea / afternoon tea and lunch. Our aim is to minimise the amount of peanut and tree
nut products brought into the centre. These foods are extremely dangerous to our children with allergies and cause 50%
of food allergic deaths. Common foods that trigger an allergic reaction are listed below and we ask you to refrain from
sending them to OOSH and to seek suitable alternatives.

OOSH does not provide any of these products. In the case of a child bringing a nut product to OOSH, the staff will bring
the matter to the attention of parents. There are many foods that DO NOT contain peanuts or nuts in their ingredients
list, but the food package has the statement “May contain traces of dairy, nut or seed”. This food may be brought to
OOSH and consumed only by non-allergic children. Due to safety and concerns, we discourage children from sharing
food and drink. We would also appreciate parents speaking to their children regarding this matter. Your child’s diet at
home need not change. Below is a list of foods that are safe for you to choose from. We’re sure you can think of many
others.

Basically we ask you not to send food to OOSH with your child that contains a nut or nut product in list of ingredients.
Children with the ‘wrong’ foods will have that food confiscated and an alternative will be offered.
