The Rex Feichter Family has been supportive of downtown revitalization through board service to the Downtown Waynesville Association and to the Town of Waynesville. Rex Feichter served on the DWA Board from 1990 until his passing in 2011. As a real estate developer, downtown property owner and board member, Rex had a passion for community planning and rehabilitating distressed properties. Wells and Kathy Greeley of Wells Funeral Homes received a prestigious award from NC Commerce Secretary and Assistant Secretary Dr. Pat Mitchell for Best Business Retention, Expansion or Recruitment Effort in the state during the annual NC Main Street Awards Banquet for their WELLS EVENTS & RECEPTION CENTER. They purchased a vacant building adjacent to their funeral home downtown and created a beautiful center where people may celebrate their loved ones with catered meals, parties, receptions, gatherings, meetings and more. It has quickly become a vital part of our community. DWA Board member Jennifer G. Jacobson and her husband Ryan, and Event Director, Angie Leatherwood attended the dinner. Governor Pat McCrory, Commerce Secretary John Skvarla, Cultural Resources Secretary Susan Kluttz, and As a former Town Alderwoman, now DWA Board member, his wife Libba supported numerous projects in the downtown district with an awareness of economic growth and historic preservation. Son Jon, DWA Board member, and his wife, own New Meridian Technologies, housed in the family owned, aptly named The Legacy Place. Renovation of this historic downtown property was a long-standing dream of Rex’s. The family completed this project honoring him in 2013. Faithful supporters of the Main Street Program, The Feichter Family embody the spirit of true Main Street Champions for their time-honored partnership with DWA and the Town of Waynesville. Assistant Secretary Dr. Patricia Mitchell were speakers during the Morganton conference. “Congratulations are in order for NC Main Street Champions and Award Winning Programs,” said Secretary Skvarla. “Their hard work breathes new life into downtowns all across our state and provides opportunities for small business as well as entertainment options for our citizens.” The NC Main Street Program helps small towns preserve their historic fabric. The complete family including his daughter, Laurie Frodsham, a New Meridian Main Street employee.
