When it comes to understanding these dispariTes in STEM, social psychology has idenTfied a number of situaTon factors, including stereotype threat—the distracTng concern about confirming negaTve stereotypes. This talk will review stereotype threat theory and research, and will conclude with a review of strategies that have been shown to protect against stereotype threat and subtle biases.
