Last Saturday we enjoyed our Mexican Fiesta, Meet & Greet Dinner at
Abuelo’s Restaurant in Plano. One of the things that made it a very
enjoyable and fun event was the Meet & Greet part of the event. I don’t
think a single person that left Abuelo’s that evening could say they
didn’t meet every other member there. That’s what it’s all about. The
food was good, the Margaritas tasty, but, we expected nothing less
from Abuelo’s.
On May 5, 2012 we have what is shaping up to be a really outstanding
event. We call it the Cross Timbers 100 – Destination Drive and Wine
Tasting. We start from “Lucy’s On the Square” in Celina, TX. The
actual “start-the-drive” time is 8:45am, but if you would like to start
with breakfast, just get there a little earlier, Lucy’s is said to have a
great menu.
This event especially lends itself to single participants as well as two or
more. We will mostly “caravan” over the route stopping along the way
to see the sites, take pictures and enjoy the comrade with everyone
else. We will end up back in Celina at the Eden Hill Winery and
Vineyard for a Wine Tour, Wine Tasting and tasty snacks. All the
details including the route we will take are on our website, www.mbcantx.org.
You may have noticed that our events are available for registration and
payment via PayPal at our web site. It’s quick and very easy to use;
you don’t need a PayPal account to use it. Most of our members are
currently using PayPal since we set it up, check it out.
A word about our membership, we are the third largest section in the
nation with about 700 members. In addition we have about 25 new
members join our section each month. Sadly, we lose about 20
members each month. With the huge list of benefits being a MBCA
club member offers, such as; parts discounts at most MB dealers, MB
Loyalty discounts of $1,000 off the price of a New Mercedes-Benz,
Technical Forums, Driving and Social events both National and Local,
the Star Magazine just to scratch the benefits surface. Makes you
wonder why. Turns out, most of the members that don’t renew have
never attended an event. The solutions seems simple, plan and provide
plenty of interesting and diverse events and things to do and then make
sure all our members know about them. We try to do this via our
Website, our periodic Member e-Alerts and this Newsletter. Some of it
is working, at our last several events including Abuelo’s, we saw a
number of members that had never attended an event or hadn’t for a
long time and that’s good to see. We would sure like to hear from you
with your thoughts and ideas.
I’m looking forward to seeing you at an event soon.

Do-It-Yourself Tech Session
Park Place - Grapevine
Our next Do-It-Yourself Tech Session will be on May 19,
2012 in the new facilities of Mercedes-Benz of Grapevine
located at 1300 Texan Trail, Grapevine, TX 76051.
We will meet at the rear of the facility and enter at 8:00
am. This facility has very tight security and once we are
inside late comers will find it most difficult to get in. If
you arrive late call 214/435-6081 so you can be escorted
in. It will be a good idea to come early.
You can pre-register using PayPal on our website for
$10.00, pre-register with Hyatt Cheek (by phone
214/327-6890 or email techdir@mbca-ntx.org) and pay
$15.00 at the door, or if you just show up and take your
chances, it will be $20.00 at the door.

Member Appreciation Day
Our Mexican Fiesta evening Saturday, April 14th was
host to nineteen North Texas Section members and one
junior aspiring, 2-year old member, Kiera Mellet, grand
daughter to our Section President, Gene Jurick!
Our evening, in our private reserved room, began with
cocktails while members enjoyed getting to know each
other with several new and seasoned friends. It was a treat to visit with first-event members such as
Babs Nealy, Cora Resuggan and Gary/Liz Thompson
who hadn’t attended an event in a while. We even
received a nice visit from Cindy Nahas, Ed and
Alda’s daughter! Our Meet & Greet turned into the theme of the evening
once the magnificent fajita buffet was set up; the line
was laden with conversation among friends - lots of
laughter and jokes to go around. After all, isn't that
what our club is all about - having fun?
On July 28, 2012, we will have our second annual Member
Appreciation Day at Flag Pole Hill near White Rock Lake.
Flag Pole Hill is located at Buckner Boulevard and
Northwest Highway overlooking beautiful Dallas. Our
get-together will be from 1:00 to 3:30pm.
This year our chefs are creating a fabulous Italian/
Lebanese menu. There will be great vegetarian dishes
along side the carnivore ones, in this outdoor culinary
extravaganza.
Member Appreciation Day is your chance to meet and
mingle with other North Texas members, participate in
games and contests with lots of prizes and show off that
MB gem you love in our MB car show contest where we
will judge three categories: Cleanest, Prettiest and Wowiest! Come early if you are interested in entering your car.
Mark you calendars and join us. If you would like to help
at the event, call me or send me an e-mail.
Don’t’ miss this one!

Marshall Motors DIY Wrap-Up
The March "Do-It-Yourself" Tech Session was at
Marshall Motors in Dallas on March 17, 2012. This
was the second session in our annual DIY Tech
Everyone got their work done in an orderly
manner. Good fellowship was had all around.
Session series for 2012. Marshall Motors is owned
and operated by January and Thom Marshall,
brother and sister team. They run a very well kept
shop staffed with outstanding technicians who
answered even the most esoteric questions. Marshall Motors is a great session for minor repair
projects and required maintenance. Much work
was accomplished such as changing oil,
transmission fluid, valve cover gaskets, tightening
diesel injectors, checking timing chain wear and
rotating tires.
As a recognized gallery, their lobby is a perfect
venue for displaying art and, indeed, they had an
art exhibit opening there immediately after our
tech session.

Ken’s Cool Tools
Wood Trim Refinishing
Every owner of a classic Mercedes would like to keep
the car looking presentable. I am no exception.. Over
the last year the zebrano wood piece that surrounds my
console on my ‘95 S320 had become severely cracked
and faded from the effects of age. It made the interior
look shabby and worn and I was determined to have it
fixed.
I sent my trim piece out and two weeks later the
refinished piece arrived all wrapped in multi layers of
tissue paper and protective packaging. With some
trepidation, I unwrapped the piece and inspected it. I
was amazed. The stain color and gloss were perfect
matches to my other trim in the car. I was completely
satisfied. I would highly recommend this company to
anyone who needs their wood trim refinished.
- Ken Muller
Checking with Mercedes parts, I learned a new wood
trim piece was cost prohibitive. Looking for an
alternate solution, I contacted a firm that advertises in
the Star magazine, Madera Concepts. Located in
Goleta, California, they specialize in refinishing wood
trim pieces for various older vehicles.
I spoke with the owner, Jeff Wayco. Jeff was very
knowledgeable on Mercedes trim pieces and indicated
they could refinish my zebrano piece to “like new”
condition. The price for one piece was $121 +
postage, discounts are available for multiple pieces. I
told Jeff my chief concern was having it match up with
the other trim in the car. Jeff assured me I would like
the results.
