Application Information
Engineering Student Council
Engineering Student Council (ESC) is the official student government of UC Irvine’s Henry Samueli
School of Engineering. ESC is dedicated to promoting interactions between engineering students,
faculty, staff, alumni, and the industry. We provide a network of support for engineering students
through programs and events that promote student leadership, networking skills, social development,
and project management.

General Member Expectations
All ESC general members are required to attend bi-weekly general meetings. Members are also
required to attend all committee meetings, which will be planned by the committee directors. Annual
membership dues of $40 (subject to change) are required. These membership dues are used to fund a
variety of events throughout the year, and cover the cost of your ESC shirt. All members must
complete 3 hours of community service per quarter. There are plenty of opportunities to complete this
requirement, and members will be notified of all opportunities.

Spring 2015 New Member Application
Application Information
Committee Descriptions
All selected ESC general members will be placed into one of the following committees. Please carefully
read the descriptions below, then list your preferred committees on the Application Form.
Student Involvement Committee
(Formerly “Activities Committee”)
This committee organizes ESC socials, interorganization socials, and fundraisers. Student
Involvement also organizes sporting events (ex:
Student-Faculty Softball) and the E-Week
Competitions. Committee members should be
organized, enthusiastic, and have a desire to
foster greater student-student connections
within the engineering community.
Community Outreach Committee
This committee organizes community service
events and K-12 outreach events to encourage
younger students to attend college, and inform
them about engineering careers. Events include
high school visits (presentations and activities),
and the annual High School Shadow Day.
Committee members should feel comfortable
speaking to K-12 students in one-on-one and
large group settings.
Corporate Affairs Committee
This committee organizes professional
networking events such as information sessions,
resume workshops, and the EngiTECH Career
Fair. Committee members will work on recruiting
companies to participate in such events through
emails and phone calls. Committee members
must be very organized, and comfortable with
communicating professionally with industry reps
and UCI staff and faculty members.
Public Relations Committee
This committee markets all ESC events and
programs to the campus through class
announcements, posters, flyers, social media, etc.
Photoshop skills (or flyer-making skills) are
extremely beneficial. Public speaking skills are a
bonus as well (but can be developed on-the-job).
Committee members should be creative and
enthusiastic.
Faculty Engagement Committee
(Formerly “Service Committee”)
This committee promotes student-faculty
interaction through mixers, sporting events, and
research panels. Some events include the Dean’s
Welcome Back Picnic, E-Week Dean’s Breakfast,
and Engineering Awards Banquet. Members
should feel comfortable contacting professors (via
email and in person) and facilitating social and
professional networking events.
Freshmen Committee (NOT AVAILABLE)
The Freshmen Committee is closed at this time
and will be re-opened in Fall 2016 for incoming
freshmen only.
Engineers Mentoring the Future (NOT AVAILABLE)
Applications to become a mentee or mentor for
the Engineers Mentoring the Future (EMF)
program will become available in Fall 2016. EMF
membership is separate from ESC membership, so
a separate application will be posted at that time.
