We are very excited to have you as part of the team and look forward to seeing you at the starting line. The event began as a way of marking what would have been Jimmy’s 21st Birthday. As part of this celebration we decided to walk over 21 bridges throughout London and invite our supporters to join us on the journey. WHAT WE DO HOW WILL YOU MAKE A DIFFERENCE? The Jimmy Mizen Foundation works to build a legacy of peace in Jimmy’s memory and make young people safer in the community. Money raised is put towards building Jimmy’s legacy across the UK, providing online resources for schools and employment opportunities for young people to strengthen our communities. The Foundation runs programmes in schools across the country, provides youth employment and work experience through its cafés in Lewisham as well as having an active Young Citizens group. £15 can help support a young person to gain an accredited Food Safety Certificate on our ‘Get Experience For Jimmy’ programme The Standard Route is 26 miles, however, we wanted everyone to have the opportunity to join on our Family Route, which is a shorter 7 miles. £30 can offer a pathway to a more independent life and support a young person with Autism at a Jimmy Mizen Café Please find enclosed all the information that you need to make the day fun, enjoyable and most importantly safe. £50 can help enable a school to organize a community walk where they ask their local shops to become a ‘Safe Haven For Jimmy’ “I think the Jimmy Mizen Foundation is really good, I think that it helps loads of children and communities that don't have this kind of support.” “This is one of my first times working with people who understand me and understand things that I have gone through.” Kia, Year 4, Beecroft Garden Primary School Corine, Year 4, Beecroft Garden Primary School THE JIMMY MIZEN FOUNDATION REGISTERED CHARITY NO. 1156974 ACCOMMODATION, FOOD & TRAVEL GLEN NEVIS YOUTH HOSTEL GETTING THERE AND BACK Glen Nevis Fort William Inverness-shire PH33 6SY Tel: 01397 702 336 DIRECTIONS From the South, by-pass Fort William, follow signs to Inverness until small mini roundabout, straight ahead down Glen Nevis. TOP TIPS FOR THE TRIP STRETCH YOURSELF BEFORE YOU WRECK YOURSELF! Stretching is beneficial and incorporating other exercises and activities into your training schedule will help to limit the possibility of overuse injuries. HYDRATION IS KEY. Drink water before, during and after. SLOW & STEADY WINS THE RACE! Build up gradually in speed and distance during training, you increase endurance by increasing miles. As the distance increases, the pace should decrease. Drink water DO YOU EVEN LIFT BRO? Bring a healthy snack such as fruit If you are a beginner walker you will need to do less mileage until you have built a good base. The longer you have to build this base the better. Your muscles, bones, and joints need sufficient time to adapt the stress of adding mileage. Pack a high energy snack like a cereal bar And drink some more water WALK TO THE BEAT OF YOUR OWN DRUM! Walk at a pace you’re comfortable with and only increase effort once you’re warmed up.
