Welcome Back! I hope you had a
wonderful Spring Break. Remember, we
will also have an extended 4-day Easter
weekend with no school from April 3rd – 6th.
If you attend Leffingwell on a permit,
please remember to return the Notification of Return (that you
should have received in the mail) by the required deadline in
order to hold your spot. Your promptness helps as we begin
planning for the 2015-2016 school year.
Students
of the month
Beginning the week of April 20th, our students in grades
3-5 will embark on taking a new state summative assessment
in English Language Arts and Math called the SBAC (Smarter
Balanced Assessment Consortium). 5th grade will test the
week of April 20th, 4th grade the week of April 27th, and 3rd
grade the week of May 4th. The SBAC summative assessment
will be taken online in classrooms using Chromebooks. This
test replaces the CST. These new tests include interactive
questions that allow students to demonstrate what they
have learned in a variety of ways. They measure not only
what students know, but also how well they can apply their
knowledge in real-world situations. If you would like to preview
the types of questions your child will experience on the SBAC
test, I encourage you to visit http://sbac.portal.airast.org/ca/.
Sincerely,
Dr. Blackwell

Our Mission:
Our belief is that dreams are the launching pad for all their educational journey through life. Our dream is to be accepted for what we
are, challenged to become what we can be. Our intent is to motivate our children to seek and reach their maximum potential through
honorable and productive behaviors, which will enable them to become responsible members of society. Our ultimate goal is that our
students will never lose their thirst for knowledge, or their joy for learning and living, and that they will always “Reach for the Stars.”

Heather Wagner
Wow April, once again it is time to change the
calendar.
One thing I truly love about spring is the time change.
The extra hour of day light in the evening just seems
to somehow make more time for family time. In reality
the time is the same, but I think it just motivates us to
spend more time outside together.
When I was a kid, the rule in our house was: When
the street lights came on, it was time to come inside.
Spring meant I got to stay out later. I think maybe the kid
in me still loves feeling like I am getting something extra.
Thinking about Family Fun Night is exciting.
I get to spend an evening outside with my family,
friends and extended Leffingwell family. I feel like a kid
waiting for the games, food, raffles, cakewalk, dances
and lots of laughter. All these things, with the extra hour
of daylight.
As a PTA mom I know all the work that will be put
in by parents and grandparents to make the event as
great as it is. Call me crazy, but I love that part too.
Being part of the team and seeing the kid’s reactions to
the night just brings joy to my heart.
This year we planned Family Fun Night for a Friday.
Our hope is this will allow families to stay and enjoy
the evening and not worry about having sleepy kids at
school the next morning.
We hope to see you all there enjoying the extra hour
of daylight.
P.S. in case you were skim reading…I did say
Cakewalk. Yum!

Family Fun Night Is Coming!
On Friday, April 24th, we will all gather together on
the blacktop for a night of good ol' family fun! Bring
your chairs and blankets, and get ready to have a
fantastic time playing games, eating together and just
have a wonderful time with your Leffingwell family!
We’ll have a cake walk, raffle prizes, game booths,
slot car racing, train rides, obstacle courses and
vendor booths. There will be several food options
available. Of course the real crowd pleaser is the
Father/Daughter dance and the Mother/Son dance!
You do NOT want to miss this wonderful event! So
bring your family and friends and we’ll see you there
on April 24th from 4:30-8 pm.
Ticket information will be sent home VERY soon
so keep an eye out for that!

Reflections
If you have a passion for keeping the arts in the school,
please consider heading our Reflections committee.
The arts—and the National PTA Reflections program—

building strong partnerships in your school community.
Celebrate arts learning in your school community with
Reflections.
Family Fun Night
We know that can sound a bit scary, but you won't have
to do it alone! As the committee chair, you will meet with
a team to plan and execute Family Fun Night. The key
to success here is teamwork and delegation.
