News from the Clubhouse by Marty Clegg, Secy/Treas Inside this issue: Members Special Events ……………...…...2 Officers/Staff/ MCA Judges………………….. 2 Mustang’s 51st Birthday Bash…….…..….........…..3 April Events..………..….4 The regular monthly meeting of the Falls City Mustang Club was called to order by President Steve Merritt on 18 March 2015. Sec/Treasurer Marty Clegg distributed copies of the treasurer’s report then reviewed the report for the past two months. Steve informed everyone of Frank Hayden’s recent minor accident involving an exploding plastic wheel on a snow blower. Kamos Glover, Late Model VP, gave an update on an earlier report he did on the ‘03/0’04 SVT Cobra engines. Steve then gave some details for the June pony trail that is being planned and organized by Road Boss Jonathan Hunt. The pony trail will involve a tour of the Cummins Engine Plant in Seymour. Jonathan and Steve are also planning the annual road rally with Derby City Mustang Club scheduled for Sunday May 10. Brenda Clegg, Membership Chairperson, announced two new memberships. Ed and Edna Sullivan from Orleans, In own a ’96 GT and an ’03 yellow convertible. Clint Sanders and Malissa Grimsley of New Albany own a ’02 Mustang coupe. Steven spoke of several FCMC members who entered their Mustangs in the Carl Casper show in February. Tom and Linda Jourden along with Bonnie Cook received trophies for their cars. One recent club outing was bowling at Eastern Lanes in Clarksville where Larry Mayfield won the high series trophy and Brenda Clegg came home with the ‘Turkey’ trophy. Steve listed a number of upcoming car shows to include Huntingburg, In on April 18, our own birthday bash at Jim O’Neal Ford on April 11, the Frankfort Mustang Club’s Pony Car Roundup on April 25, Madison on the River show on May 23 and the FOP Cops for Kids show at Huber’s on June 13. That brings us to the FCMC annual June show at Jim O’Neal Ford on June 20 with the pony trail Friday June 19. Steve again encouraged members to solicit trophy sponsors, door prizes or goody bag items from local merchants and companies. The annual review of the FCMC by-laws will occur at the April meeting. Anyone wanting to suggest changes or additions should be present to bring up their ideas. Pat Gibson of the Charitable Donations Committee brought everyone up to date on recent donations by the club along with three donation requests for the upcoming quarter. A member vote narrowed the requests to two organizations, the No Kill Animal Shelter and the Exit 0 Homeless Shelter, both in Jeffersonville. The $500 quarterly donation budget will be split between the two. Steve spoke about a past challenge from another car club regarding the Crusade for Children and asked members to consider that challenge for the final quarter of the budget year. Mentioned was the upcoming cruise-in season with the first Friday at the Sellersburg McDonalds, the second Friday on the square in Charlestown and of course the third Friday at the Jeffersonville Quartermaster Station hosted by the FCMC. Brenda Clegg is taking orders for club apparel; offered are short and long sleeve T-shirts, sweatshirts, along with pullover and zipper hoodies. The cutoff date for orders is April 1. Wendell Roark spoke about the 2017 model year being the last year for V-8 engines in Ford F-150 trucks according to the Blue Oval news. Dining prior to the April meeting will be at the New Albany Bob Evans on State Street. Being no further business, the meeting was adjourned. Immediately after the monthly meeting was adjourned, the FCMC board of directors met to discuss the upcoming April birthday bash and annual June car show. Steve met with Chris O’Neal to discuss details of the two events. Steve encouraged Chris O’Neal to use the FCMC newsletter for advertising or gift certificates or any Jim O’Neal promotions. Kamos Glover will stay abreast of the food vender needs for the June show. Steve noted that he has been receiving a number of sponsor items this past month. He also led a discussion of various ideas for new club activities to encourage members to be more involved in the club. The new FCMC website is receiving many ‘hits’ on a daily and monthly basis; this is an indication that many people are looking at the website. Steve also spoke about the FCMC involvement in the FOP Cops for Kids car show at Huber’s Restaurant on June 13. The FCMC will assist with registration and judging as in the past. The FOP has always greatly appreciated the FCMC help. www.fallscitymustangclub.com Pineapple Cheese Ball…………………..……4 NEW MEETING LOCATION Padgett, Inc., 901 E. 4th Street, New Albany, IN Wednesday, April 15, 7:00 p.m. Dinner at 5:30 p.m. Bob Evans 2204 State St. New Albany If anyone goes to a car show and takes pictures, please send to Brenda or myself. June Car Show Granted it is early in the new year, but the FCMC is moving full speed ahead with plans for our annual car show at Jim O'Neal Ford on June 20. A few things you can do as a member to help with the success of the show would be to seek out potential sponsors. We can always use monetary sponsors, but something a bit easier to get is asking businesses to sponsor a trophy. A single trophy sponsorship is $25 and the trophy will have the sponsors name on it plus be announced by the DJ at the car show throughout the day. Potential sponsors could be real estate companies, tire dealerships, doctor/dentist offices, contractors, insurance offices, body shops, florists, etc.; anywhere you do business and maybe know the owners or managers. Another item always needed for the car show are gift certificates to use as door prizes. These could come from any of the many local restaurants, bakeries, groceries, department stores such as Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot, Kroger, etc. Businesses such as Auto Zone, O'Reilly's, Advanced Auto and NAPA are a good source for door prize items like car care products as well as gift certificates. Sponsor request letters have been sent to a number of national auto related companies seeking monetary sponsorships. Anything you can do as a member to support our annual car show will be greatly appreciated. Sponsor request forms are now available, either at the monthly meetings or can be sent to you via e-mail.
