The 16th annual May 2nd-5th, Friday-Monday Yukinoura Week Yukinoura Week is an event organized by the residents of Yukinoura who take great pride in their village and local specialties. We would like to introduce the general public to Yukinoura and what it has to offer. The rich nature, beautiful mountains, sparkling sea, and serene rivers bring life to this small, yet quaint village. It would be our pleasure to open up our home to everyone in hopes of spreading our local goods and activities. During Yukinoura Week, both locals and travelers from all over gather to enjoy the numerous festivities offered. Sweet sake and drinkable vinegar are our specialties. The 2nd floor also provides the rest room. Yukisumigama to nakamatachi (Charcoal Kiln and Friends) 10:00am~ 4:00pm Handmade items, pottery, homemade sweets. Seasonal items such as Japanese dolls and other specialties available. Sashikata Samue to monpe no mise (Monpe’ s Shop) 10:00am~5:00pm Traditional cloths and working attire for both men and women. Clothes for your everyday life. Find your favorite design and enjoy! At noon, there is live music so please kick your shoes off while taking in the sounds and relaxing scenery. Do shin gama (The Furnace of Innocence) 10:00am~ 5:00pm Pottery, furniture, handmade accessories, Japanese traditional candles. We also offer coffee, pizza, baked potatoes, and juice. A pottery painting workshop is available for 500yen. Along with food and drink are handmade accessories, multinational folk art, and fare trade products. The sweets made here are both healthy and good for the soul. Located in a 116-year-old house, this shop offers Japanese stones that can be made by customers. Using a stove located inside the ground (irori), you can make your own stone and take it home. The owner will also give a quick history lesson on Yukinoura so be sure to brush up on your Japanese. 13 Kuwazako Kentaro (1) (2) (3) 11:00am~ 5:00pm The artwork of Kuwasako Kentaro is up for sale. The theme of his work is“The Piano Room (piano no heya).” On the 4th and 5th of May, both the café and piano concert are open to the public. The piano concert is held from 6:00pm̃ 7:30pm. Handmade crafts such as bags, wallets, belts, and accessories. Vegetables sold here are ready to harvest at your own leisure. The rice and vegetables are grown using high quality fertilizer. If you’ re looking for cloths and clothes from North West India, this is your one stop shop. SKO produces handmade dyed clothing along with spiced tea and herbal spices for all your cooking needs. 21 Gon gama (The Kiln of Gon) (1) (2) (3) 10:00am~ 5:00pm, café opens at 11:00 am Both pottery and pizza are sold here using a firewood kiln. A short walk from here up the mountain grants you a wonderful view of the village. Samples thousands of vinyl records with multiple sound systems that will blow you away. Come by and get your touch on as these fishes welcome the gentle stroke only humans have to offer. You’ ll just have to stop by and find out for yourself... 27 Yukinoura beach store beach ten (Yukinoura Beach Store) (1) (2) (3) 11:00am~ 5:00pm (beach ten closed on the 2nd) Surf shop with items necessary for sea sports. Surfing lessons available for 3000 yen (free of charge for residents of Saikai!). An eco beach art workshop is also offered for 100 yen. Appointments necessary for both. Showers and toilets are available as well. With the luscious sea in front of your eyes, why not take full advantage and flap those metaphorical flippers of yours. Information about surfing equipment, lessons, and other marine accessories available upon inquiry. 10:00am~ 5:00pm All types of pottery. A special type of kiln known as“nobori gama”is used to heat up the pottery. Come witness this unique furnace and take home a piece of clay goodness for yourself! 30 Iyashi no heya (The Room of Solace) (1) (2) (3) 9:00am~ 5:00pm Handmade patchworks and silk crepe fretworks. As the name implies, this shop is comforting to the mind and body, and a great place to relax. 31 Café & Wine“Hideichiro” (1) (2) (3) 10:00am~ 5:00pm Yukinoura-style Panini, coffee, Dolce, and beer. Using fresh ingredients from Saikai city, Hide serves up some of the best Italian cuisine around. Visit the tastes of Italy through his creations and enjoy the tranquility of this wonderful café. 32 The back bayers (1) (2) (3) May 3rd-4th, 10:00am~ 5:00pm Woodwork and vintage accessories as well as small leather goods. In addition, this store also serves up beer, coffee, jerk chicken, and jerk wild boar (inoshishi). Supplies are limited so get them while you can! About an hour’ s walk from Yukinoura Public Hall (or a quick 7 minute drive), this café serves up some food not common in the area (or even Japan for that matter). Kick off your shoes and have yourself a beer and a boar.
